This Dot Line Mini Softbox for Speedlights is a quick and easy way to eliminate that harsh, contrasty, deer-in-the-headlights look that comes from using a camera-mounted flash pointed directly at your subject. This little beauty works like the big softboxes that attach to studio strobes--it softens, diffuses and spreads the light. It fits over the front of standard camera flashes, and measures 3.5 x 3.5" (8.9 x 8.9 cm) when open. It folds flat for easy storage when not in use.

I use this mini-softbox on my canon speedlite 270ex and it fits fairly well on the end. I have to slip it on a little farther than i would like to, or else the softbox droops down slightly because it isn't very rigid. But other than that, it is a great product and diffuses light very well. I love how it can fold up and go about anywhere too. I recommend it highly because of what it can do for such a low price.

The problem with this softbox is twofold. One, it's too small to diffuse the light sufficiently, you would likely be better off just tipping your flash up. Secondly, It has no construction that enables it to stay in place. The only thing that holds it to the flash is an elastic band at the base of non-reinforced fabric. This causes the softbox to "flop" around on your flash, and in most cases, point downward, almost at your lens. Although I suppose you could tilt your flash upwards to help compensate for this, because of how small it is, it would be more convenient to just tilt your flash up and leave the softbox off. It's only[$], so you can't really expect a lot out of it, but I never use it, so I guess it's [$] I just threw away.

I use this for some on location photography. The item is great and diffuses the flash perfectly. The end product ends up looking natural and as if you didn't eve use a flash.

The product is made from good material, but it needs a little support to keep it straight when mounted on the flash.

Comments about RPS Lighting Mini Softbox for Speedlights:
I shoot many functions that include shots of people in cramped situations. In the past I've used a white card mounted above my flash as well as bouncing the flash for softer, more even light.
Since trying this Mini Softbox, I've found that I've got the soft light I need without burning through batteries in my flash to bounce light off high ceilings. Unit is very compact and folds down to a very small size to tuck inside my bag or vest. This unit also assembles in seconds and provides soft even light. This is a must have item for your arsenal.

I bought this recently to test during a wedding I was shooting. Its extremely easy to use. It simply slips onto the flash and creates a nice diffuse light. It folds and fits well into the camera bag. I would recommend it to any event photographer.

Comments about RPS Lighting Mini Softbox for Speedlights:
If you want a soft diffused light this is your best buy for the $$$. The diffused light is softer than using a bounce flash and makes a difference when photographing babies / children. It folds up easily for travel and storage. If I ever have the problem that some describe (the softbox coming off flash) I would use a small piece of velcro to secure it to the flash.

Speedlight filter worked find in close up shots. General wedding shots were not as bright as expected. I was shooting in a converted barn with dark stained wood and a grey concrete floor. Needed more surround type of lighting.

It is hard to attach to flash, and it makes it difficult to change the length of the flash and the placement of the flash(i.e. degree).
It does have a great softening effect though.
