The G-RAID 4TB model is not supported by Windows XP or older 32-bit operating systems which limit maximum volume size to 2TB. G-RAID 4TB is compatible with systems running Mac OS X, Windows Vista, or other 64-bit operating systems.
The 4TB G-RAID External Hard Drive Array from G-Technology is a high-capacity external RAID that features (2) 7200rpm drives striped together in a hardware RAID 0 configuration. It can be connected to a computer via eSATA, FireWire-800, FireWire-400 (via adapter cable), or USB 2.0.
The drive is housed in a durable aluminum external casing that features a small and quiet fan for cooling. The stylish drive will look right at home sitting on top of your Mac Pro.
The array delivers transfer rates fast enough to play back multiple streams of high-definition video simultaneously, making it an ideal solution for anything for video editing. The drive will also perform perfectly in high-resolution imaging, data backup, or general storage applications.

As I've intended I use the G-RAID for my photography and videography workflows on both a 24" iMac and 15"MacBook Pro. I am pretty happy with it's really fast start-up timing and no sluggish stream while editing HD content or full res RAW exposures from my Nikons D3 and D3S. To compare, I've been using a OWC Mercury Elite-Al Pro 2TB drive for a year now and got a little tired waiting for it to wake up every time I wanted to render some video or save some edits to a photograph. The G-RAID just works.
Not a real concern but just thought I'd throw my two cents to the pile - when transferring large files the G-RAID gets a bit loud, but bearable.
I consider the G-RAID an essential part of a professional workflow and would definitely recommend it to other professionals.

The first drive I bought was dead on arrival. It simply would not mount. I traded it in for another, copied 3 TB worth of information on to it. The next day I tried to mount it and again it would not mount. I exchanged it for yet another one, this time while I was in line, another costumer asked me if I was having mounting problems and he said that the company was bought out and that it is now a re-occurring issue. I got another anyway, re-copied all of my information on to it, and the drive worked fine for about two weeks. Yesterday the drive mounted but said there was a problem it could not repair and that none off the information on the drive could be modified and that the drive needed to be re-formatted. I can't believe how down hill this company has gone, but three drives within a month is unexceptionable. I would not recommend this drive to anyone anymore.

Comments about G-Technology 4TB G-RAID External Hard Drive Array:
These hard drives are a bit pricey, but have been worth every penny so far. I am on my 7th one and have had no problems as of yet. I use them for editing and as back ups for all my digital media files. The eSATA and Firewire 800 are perfect for my needs, but this particular drive doesn't support USB 3.0, so make sure you are getting what you need before you purchase. The hardware is very sturdy and solid which makes me feel safer about my data. Whether that safety is real or not is another matter. I certainly haven't had any problems with these drives that are several years old now.

Comments about G-Technology 4TB G-RAID External Hard Drive Array:
Drive was very easy to set up, just take it out of the box and plug it in (if you have a Mac). I use this for Final Cut, and I have been very pleased with the performance even over Firewire. I benchmarked the drive using DiskBench from Blackmagic Design, and scored ~80MB/s read and 65MB/s write out of the box over Firewire 800.
The only bad thing I can say is that the status light on the front is very bright, so you don't want it in a room you might sleep in.

I never had problems with the 2 GB G-RAID versions, but both of my 4 TB ones - within 1 day of each other - decided not be readable. Win7 kindly asks me "would like to format this drive?". Thank you Win7 and G-TECH.

Comments about G-Technology 4TB G-RAID External Hard Drive Array:
I use this drive to archive twenty years worth of photos and so far I have about 60,000 scanned and RAW digital photos added to it. I started by copying off of several smaller HD's and am now adding newly made RAW photos, everything cataloged with Adobe Lightroom. It is fast working using Lightroom from my laptop and connected with the Firewire 800 port. The size of the drive is just right for me and being a RAID I feel much more comfortable about it as an archive. The design fits my Macs just right and the laptop is actually noisier than the drive is when the fans of both are running hard. Everything works just as advertised.

The only thing that keeps me from giving this drive 5 stars, is the power button. Personally I prefer the switch on/off then the button, but it's not a deal breaker. These drives are fast, reliable, and have plenty of inputs. What more do you want. And they look cool!

On an FCP user website, this external hard drive was the first choice of many
of the editors who weighed in, and I would recommend it as well.

I use the G-Raid to store HD video and photos. I shoot a lot so I can fill up a 1TB external drive pretty fast. I now have four times the storage and can organize the contents to meet my needs.

Comments about G-Technology 4TB G-RAID External Hard Drive Array:
Read a lot of online reviews. Decided on a G-Raid for the speed and supposed reliability. But when I began transferring files or rendering video in FCPX, the drive would dismount during the operation, canceling the operation. This happened on multiple occasions, so much so that it became unacceptable for my intended use for the drive. I returned it for a LaCie d2 Quadra. I've never had a problem with one of their drives.

drives are always a bit of a roll of the dice (or a box of chocolates). The G-drives are probably as reliable as you're ever goona get and very mac-cenrtic with no need to format, just plug 'n play. Nice.

We added this G-RAID to our system with an existing G-SPEED. It was up and running as soon as I could get it out of the box. Super easy, super quick way to double our external hard drive space.
We use our primarily for video editing, and find them to be quick, stable and responsive.
