The 2TB Spare Drive for G-SAFE from G-Technology is a hot-swappable spare hard drive for the G-SAFE. It can be used as a spare drive in the event of a drive failure. System administrators should always have at least one spare drive on hand to minimize downtime in the event of a drive failure.

I'm a wedding and portrait photographer, and I use a G-Safe as my primary storage and workspace for photos I'm currently processing. I shoot RAW with a Canon 5DmkII and process with Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS5 on a new iMac. The G-Safe (and all the drives I've used with it) is fast and reliable. The drives aren't cheap, certainly, but I've yet to have a problem with any of them (knock on wood), and I appreciated that I could upgrade from my original 1TB drives to these 2TB (for those busy periods when I just don't have time to archive old jobs). Additionally, they're relatively easy to swap in and out, which is a plus.
I'll continue to use G-Tech products for the foreseeable future.

Works well with others
It is easy to use and great to have for offsite storage. However it is supposed to come with a carrying case but B&H does not ship it with it.

Comments about G-Technology 2TB Spare Drive for G-SAFE:
While purchasing up a second G-Safe, B&H had a 50% deal on a spare drive. So far, I've had no problems with my first G-Safe, and so am only buying it because of the sale.
I've ranted on about how reliable the G-Safe is, but it feels good to have the extra drive, just in case.

Comments about G-Technology 2TB Spare Drive for G-SAFE:
Great spare drive to have if you keep a copy of drives at an off site location. This spare drive gets rotated every week with the drives in my GSafe Raid.
FYI: They dont come packaged in a GTech product box nor does it come with the leather pouch as seen in the pictures. Instead it comes very well packaged in a brown shipping box and the drive itself is in a plastic sleeve. I still havent found a hard case to use for transporting the drives to and from our off site location

Comments about G-Technology 2TB Spare Drive for G-SAFE:
I haven't yet used this spare drive, however, I've used the G-Safe 2TB External Array (I've got 2 of them) for storing photos and video. It's a great, solid, and well made unit.
The one annoying thing about these spare drives is that G Tech is no longer providing a protective case to store these drives. All you have is the thin plastic envelope they come in. I've not yet found a storage case that will fit these.

Comments about G-Technology 2TB Spare Drive for G-SAFE:
I use the G-Safe as my primary and backup storeage for all my master images. It automatically makes a mirror copy of itself which saves time. I purchased a third drive which allows me to take one of the masters and store it off site and rotate it every so often so I have two copies at home and one off site. Works as adverised on an iMac. Most of my master images are in RAW format and the 2TB is adequate for my future needs.

Third drive as the rotating back up for the GSafe. Slow rebuild time, otherwise a simple and effective process for storing valuable files.
