The Sony BDP-N460 Network Blu-ray Disc Player packs a lot of advanced and high-end features at an entry-level price. For instance, it outputs not just 1080i but the very highest quality currently available, 1080p.
You can connect your BDP-N460 to the Internet (A high speed connection is recommended.) Once the player is hooked up to your high speed Internet connection you can stream movies, music and more from more than 25 different sources, including Netflix, YouTube, and Slacker . There's plenty of free content available but some premium content may require additional fees.
Bonus View is another feature available on certain discs, much like many DVDs offer additional material. In the case of Bonus View, however, actor or director commentary, "how it was done" explanations and other material can appear in a picture-in-picture window, right on screen.
The video quality of the BDP-N460 is truly outstanding thanks to x.v.Color, an image processing technology that produces twice as many colors as prior technologies. This projector also uses Precision Cinema HD Upscale, which uses advanced processing at the pixel level (as opposed to whole scan lines) to enhance the picture. It also uses separate algorithms for the still and moving parts of images to minimize motion artifacts.
Outstanding color deserves outstanding audio and the BDP-N460 delivers it in a multitude of ways. The soundtracks on most DVDs and Blu-ray discs is encoded in one or more audio codecs (coders-decoders) designed to create an immersive audio field that seems to envelope you, even if you have only two speakers. The surround sound audio illusion really has to be heard to be appreciated. The BDP-N460 can process sound recorded in more than a half dozen of the most popular codecs from industry leaders Dolby and DTS.
BRAVIA Sync is Sony's brand name for the industry wide HDMI CEC initiative that allows a single remote to control multiple compliant devices, even if they're from different manufacturers.
Most Blu-ray fans already have substantial collections of DVDs with which they have no intention of parting. Sony understands this so the BDP-N460 upscales DVDs to near HD quality when you connect it to a compatible TV with an HDMI cable (not included).
With all these great features it's understandable if you'd get a little impatient if the set took too long to start up. No sweat. With Sony's Quick Start Mode this player can go from off to operating in six seconds flat.

THIS UNIT SEEMS TO BE A WELL MADE UNIT, THE UNIT IS VERY SIMPLE TO SETUP, POWER PLUG-HDMI-ETHERNET, AND YOUR UP AND RUNNING. THERE ARE 20 OR SO SITES YOU CAN ACCESS, INCLUDING YOUTUBE,THE STREAMING CONTENT IS FAST , NO LAG, I USE DSL 3 TIER. ONE THING THAT I DO NOT LIKE IS THE INTERFACE USED TO TYPE IN THE SEARCH ON THE INTERNET, YOU HAVE TO SCROLL TO EACH LETTER AND PRESS ENTER, IT SEEMS AS THOUGH SONY COULD HAVE MADE THE INTERFACE TO WORK LIKE TEXTING ON A CELL PHONE. NOTE: THE BETTER WEB SITES THAT SONY GRANTS YOU ACCESS TO THROUGH THE UNIT DO REQUIRE A FEE.

Easy to setup. Good image. The main problem is the ability of this br player to have smooth download and playback for HD movie on demand i.e. Netflix. I have a wired connection to a cable modem and a 8GB USB flash drive plugged in the player and it still stops the movie to download data every so often. It is very annoying.

We own a Sony Bravia HD LCD TV and this Blu-ray player works great together our TV and was easy to connect and set-up. The component cord included is not HD so I had to buy a HDMI connector for about $20. It should have been included with the Blu-ray player.

Set up was smooth, just relax and follow the directions. I somehow missed the fact that a HDMI cable was needed, so I had to run out and get one. I also bought a recommended set of cables that I didn't need.

I bought this Blu-ray player to complement my new 1080p TV. It does a wonderful job! Very pleased with its performance. Picture quality through HDMI is outstanding! I hooked up the optical output to my 5.1 Digital Surround Sound Amplifier and it sounds amazing as well. Loads the disc very quick and the menu/home screen is very simple to understand.

I got this one last week, get it all hooked up in one hour, include all the configuration. I use the power over ethernet adaptor to connect n460 to my router, work beautifully. Use it to watch Youtube and Netflix. the streaming run very well. I was surprised with the streaming video quality from Netflix. The disadvantage for this product is the on screen keyboard and the screen to search the content from internet video source, it's not friendly at all. It would be good Sony can provide an accessory keyboard or change the on-screen keyboard format. Also, the USB and EXT ports are limitted, it only support reading the photo files. It would be nice Sony can make it as a media player to read personally downloaded internet contents.

Comments about Sony BDP-N460 Network Blu-ray Disc Player:
I've been using this player every other day since getting it installed 2 weeks ago. This is my first Blu-ray player so I don't have any experience with other players to compare it to, but I am very happy with it. Installation was straight forward, as was upgrading the firmware. In addition to DVD and BD movies, I have watched nearly a dozen movies via Netflix on the Internet, and video clips from several of the other online sources. While I don't have quite enough bandwidth to stream HD movies without periodic pauses, SD movies work fine, but that is an issue with my connectivity, not the player. I highly recommend this player.

Purchased to put in media room at office, attractive design, easy to use. Do not like that the whole front swings open to load a disk, I am concerned that this could get broken with rough use. Would have preferred more front panel controls.

We bought this product to compliment our new LCD TV and to download movies from Netflix. The disc movies are superb and crisp however, we did not realize that we needed to purchase a wireless bridge to be able to download movies from the internet. So that was an extra expense we have to incur, but will do.

I have only had it for a week but the set up was easy and so was setting up Netflix, which looks great on my TV much better then when it was linked directly into my TV from my computer. Since my TV and receiver are Sony as well they all talk to each other which is nice.

Still Need to Buy a $100 Linksys Adadptor in order to utilize the NetFlix Feature or run a LAN cable directly to your router.
Seems to be overpriced in today's marketplace.
The better model is a better buy.

Comments about Sony BDP-N460 Network Blu-ray Disc Player:
Great value, plays great. Blu Ray looks sharp and defined on my Sony CRT HD (For the knowledgeables, better than any LCD or Plasmas). However be aware that not all studio movies are transfer as they should be to Blu Ray or DVD. There are excellent transfer but you will find some that look awful, like if it was shot in VHS, its not the players fault. Look for Criterion Collection Movies, they make really good transfers. The network set up was really easy and movies from netflix in HD look better than i expected. Just make sure you have at least 10 Mbs internet speed. I am using a wired connection instead of wireless, i think its more reliable, i find wireless prone to interference. The only thing i dislike was using the remote as a keyboard, its not difficult but i wish the release a keyboard for it or an iphone app, therefore i can use the phone as a keyboard.

Comments about Sony BDP-N460 Network Blu-ray Disc Player:
I set up the DVD player with our new Sony Flat screen LCD TV. I specifically purchased this model Blu-Ray DVD player to stream Netflix movies. I plugged the player directly into our cable router using an ethernet cable(did not purchase model with full wireless capability). Many of the Netflix movies are high definition and there have been no connectivity/streaming problems at all! Note: contrary to what others have posted, you have access to all of the instant viewing movies as you do on the web site. Please note that you have to select the movies and load them into your TV viewing queue.
