The Canon RA-V1 Remote Control Adapter provides a LANC terminal for select Canon VIXIA camcorders. The LANC terminal on the adapter allows for connection of optional Canon ZR-1000 and ZR-2000 remote controls to the camcorder.

I bought a small camera to use when I am on the run and this adapter allows me to use my zoom controller which allows me to zoom in and out on wild animals without them detecting me.

This one is pretty straight forward. I used it on my Canon HF 200. It hooks into the mini shoe port used by Canon and it allows the user to hook up a LANC remote (2.5mm jack) The stock photo does not show the port but it is on the other side.

I used this item with HF-M41 camcorder and Manfrotto 521.
It works fine. But I think this function should be default.
Usually, the LANC connector is existing on the battery side of the camcorder, But using this adaptor, the LANC connector is on the top of the camcorder. So the cable length of the remo might be problem. (In fact, the cable of my Vivitor 8 button remo is too short to use.)
If the price was half, I strongly recommend to buy without hyperbole.

The remote adapter serves our needs for church video well used with the Vivitar 8 button remote. all 8 functions of the remote do not work perfectly but zoom and zoom speed control were the primary concerns along with the record function. On/Off is the function that did not work and we did not want to pay the exorbitant price of the Canon remote. It will limit use of other accessories in the shoe, however.

This item is actually smaller than the picture appears. It works very well, and it gives your Canon camcorder LANC ability, which is very useful for remote control units, etc. Of course, I wish Canon would integrate LANC into all of their camcorders, so this unit would not be necessary!
The only downside is the fact it occupies the accessory shoe on the camcorder, which prevents you from mounting an external microphone or light. Nevertheless, this unit works fully as advertised.
