The Pentax K-x Digital SLR (Black) kit includes the Pentax K-x body with the Pentax DA L 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 and DA L 55-300mm zoom lenses. With these 2 lenses you can shoot everything from groups in tight spaces with the 18mm wide angle as well as sports and animals in nature with the long 300mm telephoto. The camera incorporates advanced DSLR features - including Live View and HD 720p video - in a very capable entry-level camera for those looking to step beyond the limitations of point-and-shoot digicams. The compact Pentax K-x makes the transition to a 'serious' camera system with interchangeable lenses easy and painless.
The Pentax K-x contains a 12.4 megapixel APS-C format CMOS sensor that incorporates a sensor-shift Shake Reduction System that allows you to hand-hold the camera at shutter speeds up to 4-stops slower than normal under low-light situations and still maintain image sharpness. Aside from the K-x's bright optical finder, you can also compose images in Live View mode using the camera's 2.7" LCD.
Despite the K-x's entry-level price point, still images can be captured at a fast 4.7 frames-per-second at shutter speeds up to 1/6000th-second as JPEGs or RAW files. Along with conventional still imaging, you can also capture wide-screen, full resolution 720p (1280 x 720) HD video at 24fps using the full range of Pentax optics. For travel or everyday family events, the Pentax K-x makes for an ideal imaging companion.
Other advanced features found on the Pentax K-x include an 11-point, wide-angle SAFOX VIII autofocus system, a variety of automatic and manual scene modes, and a True High Dynamic Range (HDR) feature that captures a series of 3 bracketed images and combines them into a single optimized image with a full range of highlight, midrange, and shadow detail.
The Pentax K-x can capture up to 1900 exposures on a set of AA lithium batteries and is also compatible with AA NiMH and alkaline batteries.

I have been a Nikon user for more than 7 years and with the recent release of K-x made me consider on jumping over to Pentax.
Initially the K-x appeared to me just a toy camera due to its color options but i wrong, totally. Currently i am using it for my landscape and nature photography.
The K-x is a perfect performer for anything. The size of the body coupled with its top features like fast burst FPS of 4.7/sec, good High ISO color noise control, in-camera RAW conversion and its robust chassis build blew me off.
Despite the lack of focus point dot in the view finder, the K-x able to support legacy lenses as well as DA* range lenses (SDM enabled) and Sigma HSM lenses is something that you cant find in any other DSLR bodies in the same price range.
The included kit lens works like charm and is a great filler while you are working on getting better lenses.
The 18-55mm have the fastest focus i have ever experienced in any kit lens i have came across. Flawless optics with slight obvious barrel distortion and slight obvious softness at widest open, CA are well controlled not to mention a sweet 1:3 reproduction at 55mm. A couple of stop down will improve the sharpness in your shots.
The 55-300mm may be a noisy and slow super telephoto lens but it is one of the top performer where sharpness are constant from 55mm to 300mm, a huge advantage from its younger 50-200mm. Softness may be quite obvious at 55mm wide open, a stop down to f/5.6 onwards fix it.
The whole menu system have the most friendly and no-nonsense interface i experienced. Its straight forward, simple and very accessible for some quick configuration fix.
The video capability are rather limited in the K-x. The build-in mic is a mono while there is no external mic support which leave the K-x video recording only good for family and casual purpose without a production in mind.
I would definitely recommend this K-x to anyone who wants to venture into digital photography or new to DSLR that seeks for price vs performance and at the same time without breaking their bank or melt their credit card.

I really liked the small size of the KX, plus the quality of the build. Very durable. However, I noticed the battery life was very short, and I had problems with the sharpness factor, although that could be due to the lens kit, plus I did not mess with any of the settings on the camera to compensate. I also found it to be a bit noisy when auto-focusing, but since I have not had anything else to compare it too, that may be alright. I hear there is supposed to be firmware that may fix the battery issue.

Comments about Pentax K-x Digital SLR with 18-55mm and 55-300mm Zoom Lenses (Black):
I bought this camera as my first Dslr. It's fairly easy to use and takes great pictures. For an entry level dslr it does the job nicely.
Although some reviewers say this camera burns thru batteries quickly (which is somewhat true) this is a small price to pay for such a great camera in it's price range.

Comments about Pentax K-x Digital SLR with 18-55mm and 55-300mm Zoom Lenses (Black):
- used for family, recreational, and business
- Great because it performs competitively w/ it's higher priced name brand competitors.
- Easy to use.
- Not so great b/c I would have preferred a rechargeable battery to the Energizer Litiums (And oddly B&H recommends purchasing the rechargeable batteries in addition, despite the fact that the instructions explicitly advise against their use).

Comments about Pentax K-x Digital SLR with 18-55mm and 55-300mm Zoom Lenses (Black):
Very nice camera. Easy to use even without reading the manual. High quality pictures and nice build quality. Build quality seems higher than similarly priced Nikons and Canons. Both lenses seem sharp. The software (Silkypix)that comes with the camera is basically garbage. Invest in Lightroom 3 instead. Camera needs a firmware update out of the box. Not sure why manufacturers don't send cameras preloaded with the lastest updates. Overall a very good buy though.

I purchased the camera to take pictures of my horses. I tested it today afternoon. In whole it was very good. Quick and accurate enough. Autofocus was wrong a few times. I am particularly pleased I've bought doble kit with 55-300 mm lens. Plactic back caps shrink, imposible to put on after 15 min at cool air. but it was realy cold weather (-25 C).

I am very pleased with this camera. I think it is one of the best values out there right now. The image quality is excellent. Very nice color, contrast and low noise even at high iso. The kit lenses build quality isn't all that great but their image quality is very good. I wish the lens hoods had been included and am not that crazy about the plastic lens mounts but for the price I guess I can't complain. Overall I'm very happy with this kit.

I find that other SLR's are just too large and this is the perfect size for me and easy to use - AND glad to have a viewfinder which many of the new cameras don't have!

Comments about Pentax K-x Digital SLR with 18-55mm and 55-300mm Zoom Lenses (Black):
I've been taking pictures for a long time. As a kid, I developed a knack for composition with a Kodak X15 and a 110 pocket instamatic. I saved my allowance for film and processing. In 1982, I bought a Pentax ME Super for my honeymoon. Years later, I bought a Pentax ZX-50 to photograph my growing family. Loved both cameras and the lenses I used with them. A lot. With the advent of digital, I received an Olympus Camedia C-730 as a gift... and then my love of photography began a swift decline. So slow, so frustrating, so hard to see what I was shooting. Decent photos, but no creative control, no fun. Argh.A familiar tale, I am sure. Then during this holiday shopping season (12/10), I received a gift check intended for a camera. As a busy professional and single mom now, I shopped a bit locally, and quickly decided on a Canon T1i kit with 18-55 and 55-200 lenses and a few extras at a local club store for $749.99, a great deal I thought. Long story short, by the time I got to ****** for the kit it was out of stock. The other local ****** still had five, but I was out of time. After returning from a weekend trip, all T1i kits were gone from stores and website. I was very upset. But, as one who tries to see the forces of good in all things, I decided I was not meant to have that camera and started shopping again.THANK GOODNESS.Thanks to a friend's comment about using old lenses, I Googled "Pentax digital slr" and found the K-X. Many hours of online researching and reading later, I was on the B&H site, looking at this kit. All online reviews of B&H were stellar, everything I read about the K-X was music to my mind, and I knew I had found the right camera for me. For about $100 less than the Canon T1i kit, I was getting a comparable camera and a better set of lenses. Slightly fewer megapixels, but I'm happy with 12.4. I was especially excited about the ability to use my old glass lenses, which are still so familiar and comfortable in my hands and to my eye. And this has the anti-shake in the camera instead of the lens, which just makes so much sense.[...] So far I have only used the camera for holiday family snapshots, but I am already in love. It feels right in my hand. The controls are intuitive and familiar to me. I can SEE what I am shooting again. Autofocus is fast and furious, the shutter is snappy and quick. I have read the entire instruction book, and honestly, I may never use all the functionality of this camera. Still, I am going to have so much fun trying. My initial photos are exceeding my expectations, and I feel like I did with my first 35 mm camera so many years ago.At this stage of my life, I don't get excited about too many material possessions. I really believe we would all be better off to consume less stuff and spend more time enjoying our friends and family. But this camera has already given me a rare sense of material delight. It is so well-designed, so beautifully made. Since receiving it I've returned to the club store and looked again at the Canons, and I am SO GLAD I bought this instead. I'm not sure why it is priced lower, because I think it looks and feels like a better piece of equipment.I have yet to try it with the the 300 mm lens, or try it with my trusty old manual zoom. But I can't wait.I am so happy with my choice. I love my camera again. <3

Great value/price point.
Smaller size makes it easy to carry and manipulate especially here in cold Michigan.
Viewfinder works well with glasses.
I'm still learning all the ends and outs of still photography after shooting mostly video for the last 12 years. Pentax supplies a 315 page manual with the K-x so I'll probably find a lot of answers in there.
I'm still taking mostly test shots so far but I'm making progress.

I bought this for my 15-year-old granddaughter who has a great photographic eye. Previously, I had purchased the same product for myself and was very pleased. When she took my camera a her brother's birthday party and took 150 pictures, I was astounded and realized she should have a digital SLR rather than the film camera I had bought her for her 14th birthday. It is an excellent camera for both beginner and intermediate pro.

We were just point & shoot people who wanted to create better images, and this camera was so easy to pick up and use, and the results were amazing. This only lead to learn more about what the camera can do, so this family is hooked. And I'm so glad we chose the Kx over the Cannon or Nikon entry level cameras. This has all the features and capabilities of much more expensive cameras. I had been leaning towards Sony until I discovered the Kx in my research, since they both had in-body shake reduction. 4.7 shots per second will be very cool on our next ski trip with the kids. No regrets, and not seeing a need to ever upgrade beyond the Kx.

The lenses supplied with this bundle (the DAL series lenses) are slightly different from the DA series lenses. They lack a few features, have PLASTIC mounts instead of metal ones, and don't even come with lens hoods—which are incidentally either extraordinarily expensive or nearly impossible to find. I had to order a hood for the 300mm lens from China, for example.
Other than that, the image quality is excellent, and getting both lenses for the price charged here is quite a deal, no doubt about it. I just wish these were the same lenses available separately.

This is my first DSLR, I have been using it for over a month, the more I use it, the more I enjoy it! The kit lenses are quick and sharp! I use 55-300mm most of the time, very good for birding, etc. Last week I bought an old 50mm f1.7 and tested manual stuff with K-x, working perfectly! This toy is simply amazing...

Takes great shots first and foremost, and has several modes and features to bring out the creativity in our family. The DA-L lenses are not prime lenses, but have great optics for the money. Exceeded our high expectations. Simple to use, and yet complex enough get professional looking results. We love this camera!
