The Pentax K-x Digital SLR incorporates advanced DSLR features - including Live View and HD 720p video - in a very capable entry-level camera for those looking to step beyond the limitations of point-and-shoot digicams. Bundled with a Pentax 18-55mm zoom lens (a 27 to 82.5mm zoom on a conventional 35mm camera), the compact Pentax K-x makes the transition to a 'serious' camera system with interchangeable lenses easy and painless.
The Pentax K-x contains a 12.4-megapixel APS-C format CMOS sensor that incorporates a sensor-shift Shake Reduction System that allows you to hand-hold the camera at shutter speeds up to 4-stops slower than normal under low-light situations and still maintain image sharpness. Aside from the K-x's bright optical finder, you can also compose images in Live View mode using the camera's 2.7" LCD.
Despite the K-x's entry-level price point, still images can be captured at a fast 4.7 frames-per-second at shutter speeds up to 1/6000th-second as JPEGs or RAW files. And along with conventional still imaging, you can also capture wide-screen, full resolution 720p (1280x720) HD video at 24fps using the full range of Pentax optics. For travel or everyday family events, the Pentax K-x makes for an ideal imaging companion.
Other advanced features found on the Pentax K-x include an 11-point, wide-angle SAFOX VIII autofocus system, a variety of automatic and manual scene modes, and a True High Dynamic Range (HDR) feature that captures a series of 3 bracketed images and combines them into a single optimized image with a full range of highlight, midrange, and shadow detail.
The Pentax K-x can capture up to 1900 exposures on a set of AA lithium batteries and is also compatible with AA NiMH and alkaline batteries.

Comments about Pentax K-x Digital SLR with 18-55mm Zoom Lens (Navy):
The quality of the photo's is amazing, size is perfect, it is great for multiple shots for action photo's. The camera is great for beginners! Auto Pict setting is great for quick shots it seems to be pretty accurate for the most part. Has a very long battry life, which is great. I would recommend when shooting turn on flash because doesn't always flash when needed on auto flash in daylight (ex. in car, shade etc). Also I would use a filter because it makes a huge difference. I would definately buy again!

Comments about Pentax K-x Digital SLR with 18-55mm Zoom Lens (Navy):
I'm a beginner in the photography business. What invites me to buy the Pentax K-X is of course the price vs the competition.
Cheaper does not necessarely rimes with less for your money.
What i like about it is :
- The price. Almost 100-150 cheaper than the Nikon and Canon's entry level DSLR.
- The Grip. I have small hands, and the grip is great, fits perfectly in my hands. It also does not feel cheap at the touch.
- Picture Quality at high iso.
- AA batteries instead of battery-pack. You could make 1500+ shots with some good lithium batteries (Energizer Adv. Lithium). Also, simple batteries are more convenient than battery-packs.
The things that i found not that great about this camera are :
- Noisy shutter. It is not that bad, but just a bit louder than the competition. You can almost feel the shutter close in your hand.
- The Menus are simple, but not beginner-friendly as the Nikon D3100 for example.
- 230k dots LCD screen. The screen itself is large enough, but it needs more pixels. Not that it bothers me, sometime, i'd like to make an opinion on the picture i took with the screen.
- Pentax K-X is now discontinued :( . You will have to buy it refurbed or used. If you are lucky some stores might have it in stock. In my case, i bought it refurbished.
It's been 2-3 weeks that i have the camera now and i'm totally satisfied. I had a struggle between the K-X and the K-R and for 200$ less, i chose the K-X, and i don't regret it. I will by another lens for the saving i made :)

This is a great camera. I love the HDR feature and video recording. I'm coming off of a D50 I have had for 5 years. That was a great camera. But with all the new features this camera has the price and options were too hard to pass up.

Comments about Pentax K-x Digital SLR with 18-55mm Zoom Lens (Navy):
I bought this camera to get back into photography after learning years ago on a Pentax K1000 so Pentax has sentimental value. So far it has been very easy to use. Most of the controls are self evident so I have been able to experiment with various modes without needing to use the manual all of the time. It is hard to get used to looking thru the viewfinder again after using a point and shoot for so many years.

Comments about Pentax K-x Digital SLR with 18-55mm Zoom Lens (Navy):
I'm totally new to DSLR photography, and this has been a phenomenal camera so far. Love the photos it takes and the controls are intuitive, even for a newbie like me--would recommend this camera to anyone. I bought it specifically to take family photos, meaning lots of indoor shooting with low light. So far it's done the job admirably, couldn't ask for more. Bought it after exhaustive research vs Nikon D5000 and Canon Rebels. Extremely pleased with value for money.
On the lens, no complaints, it creates crisp results through a comfortable range of focal lengths. Combined with the camera's low light ability, it manages to capture excellent images without the need for a flash, most of the time.

It is easy to work with. Even before reading the manual I could manage to work with a lot of its features. It is the first digital camera I own, i have been working with film up until now, and i think this camera is a good choice. I only use it Manual, so i dont know much about the auto.

[...]screwed up default settings but it was easy enough to correct once the problem was identified. Camera motor's quite noisy, making discreet shooting next to impossible. Fits my hand like a glove, is lightweight, and the instruction manual is actually helpful. Using the camera as my principal one on a current year-long roadtrip. See [@] for examples of photo quality.

Have been taking tons of pictures in varied locations and situations. Performed well at Gymnastic show and watching the wildlife at the feeders! Inside, outside, and running after 4 year old this camera has performed just as I expected and want. Great value for the money.
Very pleased with the camera. Would recommend this camera for all situations!

Comments about Pentax K-x Digital SLR with 18-55mm Zoom Lens (Navy):
I was deciding between this and Nikon D5000. I'm completely happy with this camera. Within couple of days, I shot 300 pictures. It lets me use all the manual settings that I understand and produces great quality pictures yet still has loads of features to make it easier for the beginners. That made my transition from point & shoot to SLR much easier and completely frustration free. Highly recommend to those who are new to DSLR.
Auto-focus is only fast through view finder and not in live view.
Average shutter speed. Never really needed faster speed for my use.
It takes beautiful pictures in low lights.
It does produce noise at high ISO but so do other cameras.
Auto white balance doesn't work the greatest in indoor light but can enter the white balance setting in one push of a button.

It is a very good machine and the color is quite nice. Although the sound of tripping is a little bit louder, comparing with Cannon and Nikon, Pentax K-x is wonderful with quality and low price.

Comments about Pentax K-x Digital SLR with 18-55mm Zoom Lens (Navy):
I am an amateur photographer, who learned on a Pentax film camera. My first digital SLR was a Pentax k100, which I have enjoyed for 3.5 years. However, I was feeling extremely outclassed in mega-pixels (6.7), so I started shopping. It didn't take me long to decide on the k-X. I don't need a professional level camera, and even though this is listed as 'entry-level', it is light years ahead of the k100. It is so quick, very responsive. It feels good in my hands - it is a bit smaller. I am still working my way through all of the menus and applications, but am looking forward most to using the HDR function to photograph these beautiful NE plains. I am also anxious to try the video function. I haven't had it long enough to do everything. I love this camera.

I love this camera. It is easy to use, even for a beginner. I haven't had much opportunity to experiment with it yet, but what little I have so far-its been great! I love the fact that any Pentax lens will fit this camera, no matter how old. I think that gives the camera a HUGE advantage over any Nikons or Cannons-which are only compatible with certain lenses.
