Eizo ColorEdge CG243W 24.1" Widescreen LCD Display
Shown with Optional Equipment

The ColorEdge CG243W 24.1" Widescreen LCD Display from EIZO is a high-quality monitor, built to the stringent standards required by pre-press, digital photography, video editing, and post production applications. The display features a 1920 x 1200 native resolution, a stunning 850:1 contrast ratio, and 270cd/m2 brightness. It features DVI-I and DisplayPort inputs, both with HDCP support.

The monitor is designed for use in environments where accurate color is essential. It features factory calibrated gamma, brightness stabilization, and ColorNavigator calibration software. Color deficiency simulation, 10-bit simultaneous display support, and 16-bit internal processing round out the impressive features of the display.

Supports hardware calibration of color, allowing you to adjust settings via the monitor's internal settings so that there is no displayable loss of tone during calibration, and also helping to maintain uniform color display across several ColorEdge units
Bundled ColorNavigator software allows you to calibrate the display with ease: simply input target values for brightness, white point, and gamma, ColorNavigator will work with a measurement device to utilize the display's look-up table (LUT) and create a custom ICC profile within minutes
Capable of reproducing 97% of the Adobe RGB color display, allowing it to display most colors in a digital photo that was captured in Adobe RGB mode. It also has an sRGB mode, which accurately reproduces all colors in the narrower, but oft-used, color space
Sports 3 inputs for computer connectivity, 2 DVI-I and 1 DisplayPort, for universal compatibility. The DVI-I ports accept either digital or analog signals, while the DisplayPort is a next-generation digital connector that supports video and audio input
Employs a 12-bit look-up table with a color palette of 68 billion colors. Up to 16.77 million of these colors can be displayed simultaneously when connected via DVI, and the LCD display supports a staggering 1.07 billion via DisplayPort. It uses 16-bit internal processing for smooth display of grayscale tones, without banding
Thanks to 16-bit internal processing, dark grays will neither be banded nor washed out. The display can reproduce a high level of detail in dark areas, without the need to set the black level too high
LCD monitors often create fluctuations in chroma and brightness on different parts of the screen. To counteract this phenomenon, EIZO uses a digital uniformity equalizer (DUE) to use the display's 12-bit LUT for 16-bit calculation of a palette of 4081 grayscale tones for each channel. This ensures a Delta-E difference of 3 or less across the screen when the display leaves the factory
To ensure that the display produces accurate and consistent color gradations, EIZO measures and sets every shade of R, G, and B from 0 to 255 on the production line using the display's 12-bit LUT, producing a monitor gamma value of 2.2. You can adjust the value from a range of 1.0 to 2.6 in increments of 0.1
EIZO stands behind the ColorEdge's quality by including 2 verification documents with each display. One document verifies the uniformity on 25 points across the screen, while the other certifies that all 256 color tones of the gamma curve were individually adjusted at the factory
Uses a 3D LUT, developed by EIZO, which uses a single mixed-color cubic table. This is in contrast to a typical 1D LUT, which uses a separate color table for each red, green, and blue. The 3D LUT improves additive color mixture, a combination of RGB, a key factor in the capability of displaying neutral gray tones
Overdrive circuit reduces gray-to-gray response time to 5ms, ensuring that moving images look clean and sharp with a minimum amount of blurring and ghosting
EIZO's drift correction sensor stabilizes the display's brightness level after startup or waking from sleep. It detects and compensates for brightness changes that are caused by surrounding temperatures and the passage of time, ensuring that the display is set at the correct brightness level at all times
The included stand lets you adjust height (3.2"), tilt (40°), swivel (70°), and pivot (90°) to suit your needs
Graphic designers will appreciate the LCD's color vision deficiency simulation mode, which can simulate images as they appear to those with daltonism, as well as other varieties of color blindness. Working with both still and moving images, the simulation is excellent for those designing advertisements, signage, and instructional videos who need to make sure that the color blind can properly see their work
Graphics professionals often work in dimly lit environments, making it difficult to read a display's adjustment buttons. The buttons on this monitor include an on-screen button guide that appears directly above the physical buttons, allowing you to more easily navigate the monitor's OSD
EIZO manufacturers its products with its own staff in its own factories, eliminating the quality control gaffes that come with outsourced production. The display is built to strict standards and is backed by a 5-year limited warranty
Complies with such stringent industry standards as TCO '03 and TUV Ergonomics, ensuring a better working environment. It also sports the EIZO Eco Products 2009 label, which ensures that the product meets strict internal requirements for design, manufacturing, packaging, and usage

[...].I already had the X-Rite Eye-One Display 2 "colorimeter", which is fully supported by EIZO's ColorNavigator software. I had to download the Windows 7 compatible version from EIZO's web site, but that was no problem to get or to install. You should not install any X-Rite (or Spyder) software, even if you use their hardware. The ColorNavigator comes with two predefined profiles - one for printing (5000K) and one for photography and graphic design (6500K).I personally did not need the profile for printing, so I eventually deleted it. The profile for photography and graphic design is set for a white point at a color temperature of 6500K, a gamma of 2.2, and a brightness of 80 cd/m2.I simply attached my X-rite "colorimter", chose the photography and graphic design profile in ColorNavigator, and clicked on the "next" button, positioned the colorimeter over the target shown at the center of the monitor, and sat back and watched the show. After about 3 minutes, the monitor was fully calibrated for the photography profile.Using this setting, it was very easy to get my prints from both my Epson Stylus Photo printers to match what I saw on my monitor. (I downloaded the most recent, Windows 7 compatible .icc and .icm profiles from Epson's web site and used them.) I wouldn't call it a perfect match, as the prints are just ever-so-slightly darker than the monitor. The colors appear to be dead-on, however.I am extremely pleased! The results are better than using my old monitor on my old computer with the X-rite i1 Match software. The 80 cd/m2 brightness for the photography profile is fine for editing pictures in Lightroom or Photoshop, but is too dim for general computer use (reading email, MS Office, surfing the web, etc.). Fortunately it is very easy to create a brighter profile using EIZO ColorNavigator software. I created one identical to the photography profile, except I increased the brightness to 120 cd/m2 (the brightest that EIZO recommends for this panel) and that turns out to be just right for "general computer use".Once you have more than one profile created, it is a simple matter of right-clicking on the ColorNavigator icon on the Notification Tray (near the clock on the Windows Taskbar) and select which profile you want to be in effect. The software automatically changes the settings in the monitor itself, using the USB cable between the computer and the monitor. At first I had 5 or 6 of them set-up, but now I am down to the two that I mentioned above. I usually leave it set to 120 cd/m2 and only change to the 80 cd/m2 profile when I am editing my photos. The colors are very nice, even surfing the web, etc. There are colors existing in Microsoft Office applications that are almost un-noticed when I work on my old PC with my Dell monitor. There is a matte finish to the viewable surface, so there are no refections. This does tend to give text a slight fuzziness. I have played around with Windows "Adjust ClearType settings" control panel, and I now just leave it on all the time. That technology intentionally makes text "fuzzier" through some interpolation algorithms. So in the end, I am pretty sure that it is ClearType that is responsible, and not the monitor. You must attach a USB cable from the computer to the monitor for the ColorNavigator software to control the monitor. EIZO put two USB ports on the monitor, high on the left side, for attaching anything that you want (including the colorimeter during monitor calibration). The back port of the two doesn't have a lot of clearance for a cable with a large overmold, but the closer port has plenty of room.I have neve installed the hood that came with this monitor, so I don't have any comments about it.I have had this monitor in operation for a month now, and I have not had any strange behaviors, flickering, uneven backlighting, or anything other than exactly what you would expect this monitor to do.All in all, I am very pleased with the performance and features of this monitor and its accompanying software. Except for the price, I have no complaints at all. It is certainly the nicest monitor that I have ever used!

Good monitor. However, jumping through the hoops to set it up was a pain. You will need a special cable to utilize the 10 bit function, a cable not included in the box, and the monitor needed a firmware update that can only be made on a PC and I use a Mac. Are you confused? Well, so was I. Calling Eizo about this may be a problem, as they didn't know what was going on with this. Everything may be all better by now. I suggest you make sure all of these problems are fixed before you buy.

This monitor is excellent for color proofing photos with wide gamut and easy calibration using standard calibration measuring devices. I am using it with Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom 4 on a Xeon based workstation with FirePro V5900 graohics card. So far it has been reliable and the screen size is excellent for touchups when combined with Wacom tablet. Recommended.

For a photographer, I can't recommend these highly enough. The colors very accurate and the matching of the color on the screen to the output of the Canon PRO-1 printer is almost perfect without calibration. Adding a ColorMunki Photo to the mix gives pixel to ink perfection.
If you are a photographer and want to make sure that what you see is what you get, get these.

Out of the box, an incredible monitor. Am using with a Nvidia GeForce GTX 580 and have religated my primary monitor, an older Eizo CE210W as my second. Priamry use is post production photography. Two monitors in Lightroom works so well and the increased real estate is great. My statement is give me pixels and I will give you a great image.
Haven't attempted color color calibration yet as a huge fan of the Spyder software but will play with.
As my older Eizo has performed flawlessly for 5+ years am looking for more of the same from this monitor.

I do art photography, which requires a lot of digital processing in PhotoShop CS5 and Nik plugins. I am amazed how much more I can see in details and color gradations with this monitor compared to my old one (a graphics Sony Vaio 18" laptop). The color calibration capability makes the Eizo perfect for my purposes. For me, it's worth the price. The only slight disappointment is that the resolution is not as perfectly clear as I would like, but it is probably as clear as a non-glossy display is going to get. Overall, I am extremely well pleased and love using my Eizo.

I already had an Eizo and when I needed a 2nd monitor, I went for the CG243W for the same reasons that I bought the first one: accurate color and exacting calibration if you have an optical measuring device like a Monaco Optix. This is a professional piece of equipment and the manual is not written for amateurs but don't get discouraged. If you take the time to study manual and do some research on line, the results will be well worth the effort: you will print exactly what you see.

I'm still figuring out how to best calibrate this but color right out of the box is nice. I'm not a fan of the hood but it's needed if you have a glare issue.

A dream monitor for photography. Exceptional viewing angle. Perfect color consistency. Well executed software. The user's manual is probably the weakest part of the experience. It could really use some improvement to describe the workflow options that are enabled by this great tool.

after calibrating this monitor, it works great.
I am using the Eizo for the main and the dell for the sub.
I like the huge range of color and you will see the big difference between
this monster monitor and any other monitors for the photography and
I am really enjoying doing my work!

I bought this LCD as a second monitor to my Apple Cinema HD 30'. I thought that my Apple was calibrated correctly but, out of the box, the ColorEdge was hands down the better monitor. Details are sharp and color is great!

When I first opened the box, I was a little less then impressed. A rather ordinary looking monitor, not a lot of documentation, but well packaged. When I turned it on.....WOW...if you appreciate superb profiling, and accurate high quality imaging...then you will not be disappointed. Monitor profiling was straightforward and easy. When opening some of my images, the color and density appeared to be dead on accurate. Prints were accurate in density and color. My prints were a bit cooler, but I suspect this is because of my printer profile not the monitor. The monitor build is good, if a little unattractive. The hood is plastic, but fits and works well. It is easy to learn and use. It seems to be highly customizable, right down to being able to control the brithness of the power indicator LED. The is definitely the best monitor I have ever used. My previous Dell 2408W is not even in the same league. It is a bit pricey, but probably worth the money, if you want the best quality.

What an amazing piece of gear. When I move a window from my cinema display across to my new Eizo its like night and day. Great color reproduction contrast! Color Navigator is an intuitive piece of software that allowed me to accurately calibrate my display within minutes of having it set up and warmed up. CN hits its targets almost perfectly every time!! Monitor matches my epson 9900 output almost perfectly without any tweaking, and I feel like my confidence in soft proofing capabilities just significantly improved.

If cost didn't prohibit it, I would buy one for each of my machines.

I use it for both photo (Lightromm, Photoshop, Painter), and video (CS4) with Windows XP 64 bit. This is my second monitor dedicated mostly to image rendering (the main monitor is Eizo CE240W which gets 5 stars, also).
Colors are very even, controls are intuitive, calibration with ColorNavigator is perfect, fast and consistent, hood is easy to install. The only wish I have is to get a monitor stand which would allow to put monitor slightly lower that it is possible with current stand. Compared to CE240W this monitor is big improvement.

Comments about Eizo ColorEdge CG243W 24.1" Widescreen LCD Display:
