The Rode NT1-A Complete Vocal Recording Solution is an anniversary microphone package that includes a professional-quality NT1-A microphone and a number of useful recording accessories.
The NT1-A is a large-diaphragm side-address condenser microphone intended for general instrument and vocal recording. The mic features a 1" diaphragm with a gold-plated membrane, which provides a wide frequency response and exceptional signal-to-noise ratio. The cardioid polar pattern provides excellent off-axis rejection, minimizing noise caused by room ambiance, instruments, monitors, headphones, etc. The balanced, transformerless output circuitry results in quiet, low-noise signal reproduction at high output levels. The NT1-A is powered via 48V phantom power and has a standard XLR connector.
The bundled accessory package includes a studio-grade shock mount with an integrated pop filter, a 20' premium cable, and a dust cover. It also has a bonus DVD presented by Rode founder and president, Peter Freedman. The DVD covers a variety of tips and techniques to help you get the most out of your NT1-A.

I'm fairly new to recording but I've worked with mics that were a lot more expensive than this one, and I'm still convinced this is an excellent mic, especially for the price. I use it mostly for vocals. It's got great tone, it really picks up those low-mid frequencies for a really warm sound. I was extremely satisfied with the results when I used it to record the harmonica. It also works okay as a drum overhead when your in a pinch and you haven't got any cigars. I have yet to try it on guitar and bass and brass instruments, but I'm really looking forward to experimenting with it some more. It records with very little noise, a very high quality product.
It comes with a decent quality shock mount with a built in pop filter. This is convenient most of the time for vocals, and it is detachable. However the pop filter is somewhat lacking in flexibility, and you can't always get it to the position you want it in.
The DVD is okay. It has some useful tips, but it takes a really long time to explain three simple concepts: mic distance, turning the mic, and using the mic without a pop-filter. These concepts could easily have been explained in three simple statements: I don't really think a video was necessary to address them.
I any case, The RODE NT1-A is definitely quality product, and this is a greater starter pack. I would recommend it to new recording engineers who are just starting to build their home studio. For the money, it's probably one of the best mics out there.

Despite the tremndously rich sound this mic can produce (esp for the price), I'm 2 for 2 in getting faulty units which produce a constant "wind noise" and low output volume. I'm very careful with the mics, and keep them covered or put away when not in use. Kept in a climate controlled room and never dropped or abused. Others on the net have had similar experience...maybe it's production run issue?
Not sure what the problem is but BH Photo is THE BEST about addressing concerns and making sure you're a happy and productive customer. Will return and likely try a different model.
Use: Home studio - Music and Video
Pros: Pro quality sound and solid body with good kit for a reasonable price.
Cons: Mysteriously appearing wind noise makes it unusable for the unlucky.

Comments about Rode NT1-A Complete Vocal Recording Solution:
After researching a few USB mics and the NT1-A for some voiceover work on a documentary I'm editing, I settled on the NT1-A. When I unboxed the mic I was very pleased with what I found. The shock mount, pop screen, and XLR cable were of better quality than I expected.
I'm editing in a spare bedroom that I've converted to a Final Cut/Voiceover studio, so I added a VoxGuard Nearfield Audio Absorber and other sound proofing to cut down on room noise.
So far I've put the NT1-A through some rudimentary tests with Pro Tools SE using the M-Audio Fast Track Pro interface and have to say it's best sounding vocal mic I've ever owned.
The package is a great value for the money. I'd highly recommend this mic for a micro-budget home voiceover setup.

Comments about Rode NT1-A Complete Vocal Recording Solution:
I use this mic for small venue, holistic audio capture (acoustic set, minimal mics recordings) and it pics up everything very clearly: voices, acoustics, and percussions. The only downfall for how I use it is it picks up the percussions (jimbay) a little too well if it's too close.

This mic is perfect for my DIY home-recording setup. I use it primarily to record VO's for video & radio productions and it hasn't let me down! Nice, clear sound with no 'noise' & adds a rich, full timbre to my voice. The fact that it comes with a quality shock-mount & pop filter, plus an XLR cable is an added bonus. RODE's 10-year warranty just sweetens the deal! This mic would excel in a variety of recording situations; from vocals, to guitars, bass, & drums! Bottom line: GET THIS MIC!

Primarily have used it for voice overs. Clean sound. I've only used
it with one voice over talent, so far. But needed little EQ to make
the VO sound great.

I use this microphone for corporate video narrations and it has worked great so far. I can really tell that there is a positive difference in audio quality since I started using this microphone. It is easy to set up, and I love that it comes in a kit so I don't have to worry about buying everything separately. The price was good compared to the other microphones I considered. Overall, I'm very happy with this product.

Comments about Rode NT1-A Complete Vocal Recording Solution:
I bought this with the intent of using it for video voice-overs and recording classical guitar. It is indeed a quiet microphone, but recordings of both my voice and guitar seem suppressed on the high end and are definitely muddy on the low end. The low end frequency boost is probably the cause of both problems. Do not buy this microphone if you need flat response. Perhaps if you have a thin voice, the base boost will fatten it up. And it might work well in a drum kit. Otherwise, think twice before buying this microphone.

Comments about Rode NT1-A Complete Vocal Recording Solution:
For the money, it's absolutely unbeatable! I use it to record hip-hop and techno vocals. I personally have tested at least 50 mics in my life ranging from $100 to the $3000+ U57 tubes. This is the quietest mic, hands down - which is great if you live in a busy city like I do. The clarity and presence of the mic is significantly better than others in the $150-$250 range. It sounds like a $1000 mic. The included pop shield and XLR cable make it an even better deal. I can't say there are any negatives to this mic. It's THE best microphone in this price range.

Comments about Rode NT1-A Complete Vocal Recording Solution:
In building a home studio for voice-over work, so I would not have to pay commercial studio prices, I have been trying different pieces of equipment to bring the noise floor as near to nothing as possible. When I listened to the first tests I made with the NT-1a, I thought I had connected something wrong, since I couldn't hear any roomtone - even at high volume. Then the actual audio content started. The noise of the NT-1 was so low I couldn't hear anything.
The title of the evaluation says everything. In my opinion this is a $2,000 microphone for a little over two-hundred dollars.
If there is any suggestion I would make to Rode, it would not be about the mike, but to make the pop shield more maneuverable, such as a coiled goose-neck, like the Sony. But I would use cut up pantyhose on a bent coat hanger, rather than to dispense with the NT-1.

I expected quality from Rhode, but I didn't expect such excellence in a mic with a price range so far below the competitors. I will definitely continue with such a rewarding company.
