When I purchased my first several Canon EOS lenses, I thought I'd stay loyal and purchase Canon filters also. Well, I had several older Hoya HMC filters kicking around, and comparing these filters to the Canon filters, I could not believe the difference in how much less surface reflections could be seen (or actually, not seen) in the Hoya filters. So I purchased new Hoya HMC filters to replace the Canon filters. The Hoya metal mounts are equal to or better in quality, and the glass and anti-reflection coatings are superb.

For a middle-of-the-road (okay, low-end, truth be told) UV filter, this is fine -- not going to turn anyone into Ansel Adams, but perfectly adequate for the amateur/not-very-serious hobbyist. I've used these for years, and am content with them, knowing that they are what they are.

Recommended to me by B&H employee over the Tiffen, this is a pretty great filter! The rim is very slim which is nice, and the threads are smooth and pretty high quality. Bought it for my Canon 50mm 1.4 and it works well.

I keep this filter on my Canon EF 50 1.4 all the time. It protects it from unwanted scratches and smudges. It doesn't affect the AF at all.

Comments about Hoya 58mm Ultraviolet UV (C) Haze Multicoated Filter:
I decided it was time to get around to replacing the free uncoated protection filter I got when I bought my 55-250. Multicoating does make a difference. Example: I was taking twilight shots of the moon against a fairly dark sky at 250. With uncoated filter: a ghost image of the moon. With HMC multi-coated filter: no ghost moon.

Comments about Hoya 58mm Ultraviolet UV (C) Haze Multicoated Filter:
This filter is fantastic. I am using it on a Canon 50mm f/1.4 and all I have is praise for it.
The build quality is sturdy and refined unlike the other brands I have purchased. Strangely at this price point it far exceeds in comparison to competitors.
The pictures are sharp taken on a Canon 60D and 7D. As I am sure you are all aware do take off the filter during the night. I noticed flares from street lights.
Again this an excellent buy.

I bought this to be a sacrificial piece of glass protecting my lens. That is its only purpose for me and it serves it well

Comments about Hoya 58mm Ultraviolet UV (C) Haze Multicoated Filter:
I intended to buy this filter primarily for lens protection and second for its UV filtering property. Photos come out as crisp as without the filter. Build quality is very solid and I noticed that its about a couple millimeters thinner than the old UV(0) model. I was surprised to see that it was made in the Philippines. I found out through research that Tokina setup plant in Cebu, Philippines, which resulted in lower production cost of HMC filter. Nevertheless, I did not find any fault.
Great quality at a very affordable price. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Comments about Hoya 58mm Ultraviolet UV (C) Haze Multicoated Filter:
Like most filters , the multicoated filter protects the lens while adding as little excess glass as possible. These little investments have saved my lens countless times and i can not tell you have thankful i am. At the same time they offer a more affordable way to reduce the harmful uv rays coming into your sensor, overall i greatly approve this.

Comments about Hoya 58mm Ultraviolet UV (C) Haze Multicoated Filter:
I bought this filter for lens protection but, of course, I don't want to put anything in front of the lens that will degrade the image. Basically I just want to put a UV filter on the lens, forget it and go. Hoya is my go-to brand for this kind of thing.
