This Lensbaby Lens Shade is primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

Comments about Lensbaby Lens Shade (Step-Up Shade):
This worked out very well as a worthwhile accessory on my lensbaby composer. The threads are 37mm, which attach to the lensbaby and with the 52mm outer threads, I am now able to attach several other filters and older accessories to my lensbaby. I bought a couple other step up rings- 52/55 and 52/58 and I have a whole host of options with a polarizer, several other filters and an older macro accessory kit I had. I am also using an older screw on wide angle lens and telephoto that I had laying around and didn't use anymore...this lens shade made it possible to attach these to the front of my lensbaby with a step up ring to match the threads. It also provides a nice small lens shade for shooting into the sun. Check your filter bag and see what you can use with your lensbaby by adding this lens shade. I like that the lens shade is made out of metal and not plastic as well.
