Comments about M-Audio SBX10 240W 10" Active Subwoofer:
I use this with a pair of M-Audio CX8's in my downstairs non-professional practice room/studio. The bass is very tight and this thing gets very loud if you want it to. The variety of inputs is great, and I love the footpedal bypass which sends a full-range signal to your monitors. For comparison I have an Infinity Basslink powered sub in my car and an Onkyo sub from a boxed 7.1 system which are good, but not in the same class as this.
As others have pointed out the crossover point and volume controls on the back are very tiny and sensitive. If you wanted to adjust this unit to a specific crossover frequency for a professional studio it may be difficult to get the exact number dialed in. It is labeled, but there is no way to confirm an exact number if that matters to you. For me, I just set it to what sounds good.

Comments about M-Audio SBX10 240W 10" Active Subwoofer:
The SBX10 sub from M-Audio is like all their products, top quality and great value. This sub is built very solid. I can't imagine anyone could expect anything better than this for the money. Way more power than what I need. Sounds great and is very adjustable for many situations. I like having the crossover and the foot switch to bypass the sub is a functional bonus. All around winner and B&H had a killer price. Better than anyone else and with free shipping you can't go wrong. If your looking for a great sub in this price range I think you'll be very pleased with your purchase.

No factory authorized service repair facilities that I know of here in Los Angeles. WHY???????????

Comments about M-Audio SBX10 240W 10" Active Subwoofer:
I use this sub with the M-Audio Studiophile BX5a 5" Studio Monitors and they go great together.
The sub is way more powerful then I would ever really need. I'm a professional musician, and I use this and the monitors for my home studio.
The sub sounds enormous, the frequency cutoff knob is nice to be able to choose where to roll off the signal. Also, the footpedal to bypass the sub is pretty handy when I don't need the sub but still wanna use the monitors.
One last neat thing, the pair of monitors and sub together, while the sub is active, it will cut everything from whatever you have the cutoff frequency set at, from the main monitor signal, so you won't get those muddy lows in the smaller main monitors, which is really nice. Gets the best use out of each size woofer. Of course, when you bypass the sub, it sends the full signal to the monitors.
Overall - very powerful product, great sound, would recommend to anyone who just wants to hear good sound or needs it for a job/hobby.

Comments about M-Audio SBX10 240W 10" Active Subwoofer:
This is my first subwoofer and in my setup it does the job. I'm using Event 20/20 bas active near field monitors and the SBX10 complements it nicely in the low end. Crossover and volume controls are effective and having the on/off footswitch for the sub is a useful touch. I'm happy.

Comments about M-Audio SBX10 240W 10" Active Subwoofer:
I use this SBX10 with BX5A which is designed to be 'compatible' together. After tuning the right frequency for the crossover, the sound completely perfect for the price. It is a little punchy for those who like flat. But for Jazz and Rock mix it is quite match. Working with more expensive Dynaudio before, I can say for the price I paid, this is an accurate front-fire sub. Worth every dollar. [...]

No problems so far. Easy to hook up to my M-Audio monitors. Really like the footswitch that allows me to hear it combined with monitors or monitors only. Have several M-Audio products that have performed nicely.

Comments about M-Audio SBX10 240W 10" Active Subwoofer:
I bought this subwoofer to compliment my M-Audio BX5a studio monitors. The monitors themselves have plenty of bass, but I was never satisfied with what they had to offer. Not only did I want to hear the bass I wanted to feel it too. So I decided to buy a subwoofer. I did a lot of research for subwoofers in this price range and I decided that this was the best choice. The subwoofer is secured in its box by Styrofoam placed on the top and bottom of the unit. [...] The subwoofer is black all around, including the front face plate and the grill. Pictures online are somewhat deceiving in that it makes the unit look gray with a black faceplate. But the unit follows the same color scheme as the BX5a/BX8a deluxe and is entirely black. It was really easy to setup. Just plug in the cables from your source into the input on the sub, plug in the outputs on the sub to your monitors, set the volume, and set the crossover. The volume knob goes form -30db to +6db with markings at -30dB, -6dB, 0dB, +3dB, +6dB. When I first turned on the subwoofer and played a song, I had the volume set at 0db. I chose a bass heavy song because I wanted to see what the subwoofer could do. As soon as the song started playing I was immediately surprised at how powerful this subwoofer was. The house was literally shaking. Someone on the complete opposite side of the house noticed and had to see what was going on. This unit is plenty powerful. There are four spiked feet that simply screw into the bottom of the subwoofer. It may be possible to make custom feet because the spikes screw in using a normal threaded screw. M-Audio includes a bypass foot switch which plugs into the unit via 1/4" phone plug. Activating the switch essentially cuts the subwoofer out of the audio chain and sends the full signal to the monitors. I found this to be particularly useful when listening at night and not wanting to bother others in the house. What I like about the crossover is that it is variable and you can set it to a particular frequency. So this subwoofer can be used in a variety of configurations, with different setups. What I didn't like about the variable crossover is that it is hard to fine tune it to a specific frequency. You can vary it anywhere from 50-200Hz and there are markings for 50Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, 120Hz, and 200Hz. If you want to set it to anything besides those frequencies it is basically a guess for you. I'm sure you will get it in the frequency range you want but it might be difficult to tell if you set it at the correct frequency. The subwoofer came shipped to me without the grill attached and it looks rather cool that way. I decided to place the grill on just in case. The grill attaches to the front face plate by simply pressing it into place, no screws or any other anchors to secure it into place (kind of like a lid to a paint bucket). This isn't a bad system; the grill will stay put and is very secure. You won't have to worry about it falling off. The only gripe I have with it is that sometimes I can't make it sit entirely flush against the face of the subwoofer. Overall it sits pretty flush and only some parts of the grill protrude further out than others but you can't really tell unless you are looking for it. So how does it sound? The subwoofer basically gave my monitors the bottom end I was longing for. The bass is clean and tight, not muddy. I've had years of experience with cheaper subwoofers and those pale in comparison to what the SBX10 has to offer. It has made my listening experiences even more enjoyable than when I upgraded to studio monitors alone. It really gives your music that kick it's missing. Overall I'm impressed with this subwoofer and I would recommend it to anyone who is on the fence about buying one.
