The Eleven Rack from Digidesign is a guitar recording and effects processing system designed to eliminate the challenges guitarists have faced in the studio and on stage, by combining Pro Tools software with a DSP-accelerated high-resolution interface. The rack utilizes a unique tone cloning design for creating the various amplifier and speaker models, and a custom-designed True-Z input to re-create the experience of playing through a full guitar rig.
Eleven Rack in the Studio
Because of the dual DSP-powered audio interface, latency is a non-issue when recording with the built-in amplifier/effects tones - nor will the computer have to carry the processing burden. The system also provides the ability to do real or virtual re-amping by recording both a dry and a processed guitar signal simultaneously. To aid in this process, the amplifier and effects settings can be embedded into the recorded audio tracks, enabling automatic recall of those settings from the audio files on any Pro Tools system with Eleven Rack.
Eleven Rack on Stage
Eleven Rack functions on stage as a standalone amplifier tone and effects signal processor. Also included are a classic collection of effects, from must-have stompboxes to world-class rack-mount studio processors. The interface has all the I/O flexibility needed to integrate it into any existing rig. Eleven Rack also offers incredibly powerful control options using affordable MIDI controllers and expression pedals, providing full foot control over everything from vintage wah effects, to tempo-driven delays and more.
True-Z
Input impedance - the electronic resistance found in the input circuit of the amp or effect a guitar is plugged in to - has a huge impact on the guitar tone. Each guitar reacts uniquely with each amplifier or effect. Digidesign recognized that re-creating this electronic relationship was critical in nailing the sound and feel of their emulations.
True-Z is a unique analog input circuit that replicates the input impedance of classic stompbox pedals and guitar amps, resulting in amazingly realistic sounds. It's almost as if the True-Z input on Eleven Rack morphs into the 1/4" input jack of whatever classic stompbox or amplifier is being used. The impedance of the True-Z input can also be manually controlled and set to a value that suits the playing style best.

Comments about Digidesign Eleven Rack - Guitar Recording and Effects Processing System:
To say this unit is really diverse would be an understatement. It has countless great sounding amp models for any type of music as well as every effect a guitar player could ever need. Awesome for re amping guitars in the studio to find that exact tone and sound that fits the song perfectly. The true z input does something magical between the guitar and the sound it produces. Something that other modeling units lack. Not sure what they did technically....but lets just say they some how made it feel like you are playing thru a real amp. Great in the studio and would also kill live.
Also included is a full version of Pro Tools 8 LE with other third party content for free. All in all one of the best purchses I have made for my studio in quite a while. Highly recomend this unit.

Comments about Digidesign Eleven Rack - Guitar Recording and Effects Processing System:
I wanted a system to replace my old heavy rack system with a Marshall Jmp-1. Before I bought this unit, I a/b'd the two and the Marshall sound in the 11r was spot on. Not to mention the other amps modeled like the vox ac30 are amazing.
One of the questions I saw a lot on line was does this unit "do metal" and the answer is yes, with ease. I'm normally the guy who turns the gain all the way up. With the 11r I find myself turning it down a little.
There's always comparison's to this and the axe-fx, but from what I've heard I find the axe-fx to have better overall effects, but the amp sounds come off a little more electronic to me. So I'd say the 11r has better amp modeling but not as good in the effects dept. With the stereo effects loop in the 11r, you can easily add a G maj or whatever.
Hope this helps...

Comments about Digidesign Eleven Rack - Guitar Recording and Effects Processing System:
Havn't had time to record a full song yet, but the 0 zero latency while recording was a godsend. Quite impressed with the clean sounds also the delays and reverbs are good.
I found it cool that I could jam with it and check out the presets before connecting to my computer even, and while waiting for the slow installation of protools.
Only negative thing I can say is the USB cable provided was faulty which resulted in distorted signal (only when in protools). The american power cable was not compatible with my countries plugs but that's understandable.

Can't think of anything I haven't come up with that I couldn't do. I tried reamping from in the box and outside the box to tube preamps and into the mic input via Ultra G active DI, using tube preamps into the input with the cabs and sometimes along with the amps and fx sounds really good too. Just getting used to running this interface with Cakewalk and using the controls to tweak presets as Pro Tools can get a little processor intense and is kind of slow. But if you do work in Pro Tools you can track in low latency mode and has some good plugins like the Sansamp PSA and the AIR multi delay is something else. I learned Pro Tools with this for school and will always use it in some way, importing tracks to master etc. I LOVE that it can work with Cakwalk. The only thing I can't figure out is how to make it so that you only hear the effected sound as I want to try cabinet impulses and in Cakewalk you get both the rack sound and the effected sound. In Pro Tools I was running IR1A for impulses but it doesn't work on my newer laptop (it's a bought plugin and they are slow to support it-nothing to do with Pro Tools or Eleven Rack).
There's something about the stomp FX that smooth out my sound...I don't think I could live without them they just WORK perfectly. I am really surprised. The on board amps are pretty good especially with a vintage overdrive pedal (real one). The way the sound reacts is pretty close to a real amp.
Hopefully the upgrade in a few weeks adds all the stuff that isn't there and makes it more of an Axe FX competitor but I'm happy with plugging in some tube preamps and getting better sound than any of the modelers or Axe FX can do anyway. More DSP on board is going to be nice. Can't wait.

Comments about Digidesign Eleven Rack - Guitar Recording and Effects Processing System:
Having used one of the other "red" XT modelers for years and trying all the ones in between I have heard the old "this is like playing a real amp" before. So I was a bit skeptical of this unit. Seeing what was coming with the new update to be released March 2011 and hearing the SLO samples I had to try it. B & H 's price was very low compared to the other guys. I love it is going to replace a lot of gear in my home studio.
Oh the "feel". It is amazing it really gives you that sort of ying/yang feel you get playing a real amp. It puts that sort of "bounce" in your strings. This was VERY unexpected. Also rumors are floating on the DUC that impulse cabs options may surface one day. I'm sitting on a pile of Red Wire cabs. My PC lack the horse power but the 11R will be able to handle them. Even if they don't this unit raises the bar. Avid is upping their game for sure. I can see the boards inside the unit too and it looks like it is well put together and should be easy to service as well. Also loaded the PT8 and the rig control is very good. I have MP PT8 already but may switch to this. Reamping is easy with the built in template and rig control too.

The Elevn Rack transformed my sound from the Eleven software. In addition, it improved the overall performance of Pro-Tools since it isn't an RTAS plug-in.
