The Panasonic PT-AE4000U HD LCD Home Cinema Projector is a videophile home theater projector like no other. It's got just about every feature you'd want in a home projector. More than a dozen EDTV and HDTV modes? Check. PAL, NTSC and SECAM? Check. Progressive Cinema Scan with 3/2 Pulldown? Check. Seven picture modes? Check. Backlit wireless remote? Check. Super-quiet 22dB Eco mode? Check. HDMI CEC with Deep Color and x.v.Color? Check. Auto input search? Check. 100 to 240 V AC power supply? Check. We could go on and on but you get the point.
The PT-AE4000U has every feature you'd expect in a high end home projector and a few you wouldn't. In Split Adjust Mode you can freeze a frame, and split it into two reflecting pictures, so you can compare how your picture adjustments, shown on one side, compare to the original picture, shown on the other.
If you're particularly demanding you'll appreciate the Waveform Monitor. You can view superimposed onscreen the waveforms of the image being projected for automatic or manual adjustment. In a like vein you can take advantage of the Advanced Gamma Adjustment function, which allows precise picture adjustment with a graph superimposed on the picture.
Many advanced projectors have a 12 volt trigger output to activate a motorized screen. But this projector has two. They'll come in handy even if you have a fixed screen because you can use them to dim the lights and adjust curtains to match the aspect ratio of the movie you're showing among other options.
You might expect such a powerful, versatile projector to be an energy guzzler like a luxury automobile. But the PT-AE4000U intelligently determines the power it needs when the dynamic iris is operating, lowering power consumption as much as 10 percent. It also has an off timer that reduces wasteful power consumption. And in standby mode it draws a mere 0.08 a watt of power.
Is the PT-AE4000U the projector of your dreams? Maybe. If you dream big enough.

[...]I have upgraded to the AE4000 from the 2 years old AE2000. Both units are 1080p full HD, the AE4000 on paper has better contrast, brightness, and functionality. In reality the difference is subtle but definately noticeable. Blacks are blacker, picture is brighter and HD video seems to be more 3D than before. For the price this is a MUST BUY projector - quality is awesome. My only advise to 1080p projector owners who want to upgrade to this is to manage your expectations - it is better but not a huge leap in quality. As with other Panasnic units, focussing the sharpness is a bit fiddley but once sorted its great - razor sharp beautiful image.

this projector is great for 1080p blu-rays but thats where it ends. This unit has the normal screen door effect like most other lcd units have when watching hd football or other 720p based tv shows. After ajusting the lens and adjusting the menu for the best picture quality, the image is just plain blury!
I've been using a lower end 720p dlp based projector with a sharper image than this lcd model!
The trade off is the great contrast this projector has.
This unit is perfect for blu-rays but for anything else, go with dlp based units!

We bought this projector as a replacement for one in a bar/event space and the difference between this and the old Sony projector we used to have is more than noticeable. The picture is super sharp, the light is bright enough that it doesn't get washed out by any of the changing lighting, and it was as plug and play as you can get for a somewhat high-end projector.

My projector is for home cinema use.
It was installed under the ceiling, inside an automatic drawer, connected to a projector screen.
It works pretty well and I´m happy with the purchase.

We use this at home for entertainment and working on film pieces and viewing photographs for our work. Very bright, great contrast, huge image that holds up. Nothing I would complain about, it is wonderful, worth the hefty cost.

Projector is as simple or as difficult to setup as you want it to be. Had a 900 series before this, hope it and the bulbs last longer. Picture quality is amazing.

Comments about Panasonic PT-AE4000U HD LCD Home Cinema Projector:
Panasonic is a well-respected name in electronics and when I turned my new projector on I could see why. WOW! I have used other products, but none have measured up like this Panasonic AE-4000U. It was easy to setup and runs whisper quite as well.
My screen was back ordered so I had to wait to see the 'big picture'. I just couldn't wait so I went ahead and ran a video to the Panasonic and projected an image on the dark-blue wall of my home theatre room. The image was sharp and clear (albeit influenced by the blue wall color), but simply amazing!
The screen finally showed and when I projected the video on the screen it just blew me away. The big picture was become crystal clear, alive!. I researched for months on the internet and waited for about a year before buying the Panasonic, but it was worth the wait. What's better, even including taxes, shipping and duty, etc., it was still hundreds of dollars less at B&H than any local home theatre store where I live in Canada.
I can't wait to have friends in for a movie night. Can you say bragging rights - LOL

I use this projector for my home. The image quality is great and works pretty well with low light. The product is a bit big but you can manage it. The only thing I regret is that the focus is not manual. I also bought an Universal roof Mount that didn't fit in this projector so now I will have to speak to Panasonic to see which one do they recommend. In the product guide they tell you to use the ET-PKE1000S or ET-PKE2000 mounts that are very expensive compared to others..

I recently upgraded from a Sharp XV-Z2000 which was a great projector but it cannot hold a lumen to the Panasonic 4000. This is the new cornerstone of my theater and is worth every penny. It is bright, easy to use, and has lots of setup features. I have not found any negatives yet, and do not think that I will.

This is the centerpiece of my home theater. It's a light controlled room, so the picture is amazing, even at over 100" diagonal. I have it ceiling mounted, about 14 feet from the screen. Many outstanding features including power zoom lens. No 3D, but that's not something I'm really excited about. Bigger than I expected, too!

A friend of mine highly recommended this projector. My wife and I got it, and we love it. The color and images (picture quality) are great. The adjustable lens (left and right, up and down) are excellent. The fan is quiet. Other than the projector size (dimension) that my wife is complaining about, we like everything about it.

Outstanding product. If you're on the fence on Panasonic vs Epson...choose the Panny!
The images are to close to call and you'll be thankful for the range of image shift but more importantly the power zoom and lens shift the Panny has over the Epson.

We use this as our family projector in our downstairs living room. This is our second projector, both have been Panasonic, and no complaints so far (had to upgrade because the last one was 720p) Obviously, you have to have a dark room to project anything in, but this projector is so bright, we can leave our blinds open on our sliding doors while we watch it! The colours are a definite improvement, and the contrast is just a beauty!
It makes the Stanley Cup playoffs much more enjoyable!
The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because of the size. It's huge! We have it ceiling mounted, and if this thing falls, someone's going to the hospital.

I bought my Panasonic Home Theater projector, not for indoor use primarily, but for an outdoor experience. Along with an inflatable screen, my family and friends can enjoy the fun of the drive-in with the comfort of blankets and chairs. The projector works flawlessly and is easy to set up. The picture quality is above anything I expected, and would definitely recommend this projector for a home theater.

The best home theatre projector in this price range. A great projector if you plan on using it for TV and movies. The picture is clear, color is good. The black could be a little darker, but it's good enough. The overall spec's on this projector in some areas are as good or better than projectors that cost a lot more.
