The VPC-FH1ABK Dual Camera Xacti Camcorder (Black) from Sanyo is a full 1920 x 1080p HD camera that's also compatible with Apple's iFrame video format. iFrame (960 x 540/30fps) is specially designed for editing your video in iMovie '09. However, it makes editing on a PC or Mac a breeze thanks to its compatibility with applications that support the H.264 format. With iFrame the video in your camera is the same format you'll edit, and you'll be able to share your movies right away across multiple platforms and devices.

Aside from providing you with uncomplicated editing and sharing, the FH1A features flash memory recording with SD/SDHC memory cards (not included) up to 32GB. It also captures 8MP digital stills, allowing you to leave your dedicated still camera at home. Other features include a rotating 3 inch LCD display, super-fast start-up capabilities, and simultaneous video and photo capture. There's also 16x Advanced Optical Zoom for capturing far-off video subjects, 10x Optical Zoom for still subjects, Face Chaser, and slow motion recording capabilities up to 600fps. In addition, Three-Dimensional Noise Reduction improves video clarity, while the digital image stabilizer compensates for unintentional camera shake.

And when it comes time to share your videos, aside from quick upload and sharing on the Internet, the FH1A also provides easy transfer to iTunes for storage on your iPod. The camera also features an HDMI output for one cable connection to your HDTV or DVD recorder. Hello, I bought this camera from B&H and I must say that I am indeed impressed. Me and my buddies do a lot of short films. The idea was to buy a casual camera that could record in HD because we had been shooting in SD for a while.[...].If you compare this camera to the other, you will see that this one is really a bang for the buck. I am not talking about the slow motion features, they honestly is not good. It is maybe good to have them for fun, but using it to make a movie, no.. because it lowers your resolution and gives you very bad quality.Lets talk about the good things you get. This camera has 60fps recording that is really useful, if you are doing something that is in slow motion or such, it also gives the movie a smooth feeling. It is really a great feature that you can plug your USB external harddrive into the camera and move the things to the harddrive without a computer. The camera also has progressive scan, and for that I love it. Normally you record in an interlaced stage but I really hate interlaced. It makes the movie sharp and also moving things appear bad.The resolution is 1920x1080 and that's FULL-HD for those of you that don't know. I've not been using this camera for long but so far I like it very much. Now lets talk about the bad things. To start with I would like to be able to zoom a little further, although the zoom is good in a way and you don't loose any quality if you turn of digital zoom.I would like to control the focus while I am recording, it really annoys me to have to use auto focus or macro focus, mainly because then I can't get the feeling I want in the movie. There is no external mic input but the mic is okay. Also, it does not perform well in a low lighted area. But the white balance is really good if you use the one click feature. Thanks for reading the review, I recommend this product for every casual or semi-professional movie maker out there. If you have any more questions, please feel free to email me at [@]

I am a professional photographer and an amateur videographer. I have a Sony 3CCD camera that is a bit dated now and wanted to upgrade to a small, light weight HD video camera that I could put in my camera bag and give me the option to shoot my digital stills and video when necessary.

The reasons I bought the camera was size, price, slow motion and the full HD the camera offers. The added bonus was the ability to work with the files in iMovie without having to convert the files before importing.

I took it on an assignment to Jamaica and shot my son's wedding there. I found the slow motion looked good using the 240 SHR 448X336 mode and the result was not even useable when I imported it into iMovie. The quality was so poor that it could not be integrated into my project.

The other problem I found using this camera was its inability to film in low light situations. Although the instructions state that focusing should be manual in low light, I found the overall quality again was quite poor.

I am not thinking of returning this camera and looking for something that offers a higher quality then this one. The video I did shoot in bright daylight and of a show as the hotel which had theater lighting was quite nice, but unless you intend on shooting in bright light and don't need the slow motion feature and want a camera that will work easily with your iMac, then this one is not for you.

One last thing, the small batteries cost around $50 for an extra, which is something I always like to have on hand, but at $50, I think that the cost is quite high compared to comp batteries for other cameras.

Comments about Sanyo VPC-FH1ABK Dual Camera Xacti Camcorder (Black):

The Sanyo FH1ABK is an excellent high definition video camera for the price. The video quality is quite good for an inexpensive consumer camera. I am using it for sporting events. You can see players numbers quite clearly. Additionally, the pictures genreated whiling shooting videos are reasonable. It is very simple to use and is quite intuitive. The super slow motion feature is the only one that does not live up to expectations. You can only get 240 fps at about 450 X 300 pixels. Overall, I am very happy with the Sanyo.

Comments about Sanyo VPC-FH1ABK Dual Camera Xacti Camcorder (Black):

Ordered this camera from Canada. [...]For a camera in this price range it is almost perfect.Great features and good quality.Comes with a bunch of cables(all but HDMI cable - got that for $3 from an auction site).I don't see how people can complain about it being a bad performer in low light. It actually seems to amplify light (maybe change some of the numerous setting options to suit your individual needs). The shape of the camera and the electronic image stabilizer make it very easy to hold the camera steady while recording.Image stabilization seems to have been a major complaint for some people but not for me.Love the slow motion settings(600 fps or 240 fps) and the macro lets you go as close as 1 cm to the object(less than half an inch).Numerous HD settings make it perfect for anyone! All in all i would recommend this camera to anyone!!!

We wanted an HD camcorder to replace an old Sony non HD albatross. The Sanyo is so compact that it easily fits in your purse. The picture quality is outstanding. Our 15 year old daughter wants to upload some video on Youtube and it was no problem at all. Also, we were concerned with compatibility issues with Mac computers but its NO PROBLEM, imovie is a breeze. [...]We are loving our new HD camcorder.

The Sanyo VPC-FH1A is the best true 1080p Hi-Def camcorder for its price range. I am quite impressed with all the available still shot features and settings.

The only knocks against this camcorder are the picture quality in low-light condition and the zoom features are just average.

Comments about Sanyo VPC-FH1ABK Dual Camera Xacti Camcorder (Black):

This was my first in HD Camcorders. I thought based on the few reviews I would give it a try. For the price I though if the picture was good it is a winner.

I have used for many years a Canon A1 Hi8 Digital. My first reaction was that the Hi8 had better picture quality than what is produced by this HD at the highest setting. That is in daylight and low light.

Zoom range is good, but with no image stabilization (trust me, it does not exist not even at wide angle) the footage is so shaky no mater what you do unless you use a tripod. Period. This digital IS they claim is nothing more.

I do use Adobe Premiere CS5 for editing my videos and I have looked at my recordings in a frame by frame sequence. I can only say that is it embarrassing to even claim this is an HD camcorder.

This is on its way back and I have forked out twice as much for the Panasonic HDC TM700. Granted nothing is perfect, but for us seeking HD the later seems to deliver at a great price.

I needed a 1080p camera without OIS for a scientific application. The little Sanyo is exactly what I was looking for in a very small package. Image quality is excellent in good light. Low light performance is somewhat average. Still pictures are camcorder-quality but useable. Unlike what a salesperson told me, it *does* accept standard 37mm accessories like filters and lenses. A hotshoe and a mic input would have been nice but for the price and compact size this is a very nice camera.

Comments about Sanyo VPC-FH1ABK Dual Camera Xacti Camcorder (Black):

I bought this camcorder for capturing outdoor action sports. I wanted

      1) the best picture I could afford ...
      2) captured at a fluid framerate ...
      3) with a decent optical zoom.

I'm extremely pleased with the VPC-FH1's performance in all three respects. Other camcorders at this price point deliver 1920x1080 HD, but some of those are interlaced rather than progressive, and few offer 60 frames per second. This makes a big difference when it comes to capturing motion, especially if you intend to use slow motion effects in editing.

The camcorder is also extremely small and lightweight - it fits in cases designed for compact cameras or even phones. I can see it being very useful for traveling.

      In the complaints department:

      1) The digital image stabilization leaves something to be desired (not a big deal for me since I usually use a tripod)
      2) The lack of an integrated lens cap is a pain.
      3) The manual focus mode is very cumbersome.

I got the camera the replace my 10 years old Sony PC 100 miniDV
the Zoom is the number one problem you just can't zoom in while recording as the camera will have big problem to focus and the stabilization is not some thing to count on. one the other hand colors and weight are a plus, HD was a must for me and i looked
for the lowest price so i can't complain. great 8MB still

Comments about Sanyo VPC-FH1ABK Dual Camera Xacti Camcorder (Black):

This is the first camcorder that i have ever bought. I had a friend of mine find it for me since i am not all that smart about buying these types of electronics. So far i am very pleased with my purchase. I looked for some time before deciding to order and buy this one. It is pretty easy to use. I have only had it about 2 weeks, so i am still getting used to it. The menu is a lot like that of a digital camera. different settings, able to turn on and off the flash, you can set the type of recording you want to do, standard, hi-def, things like that. You can also change up the picture size and resolution. There are still some areas of the menu that i am not all that familiar with; mostly because i haven't had a lot of time to look through it and play with it.

The auto zoom is a little hard to get used to. When you zoom in really fast, it takes a few seconds for it to re-focus itself. but if you zoom in slowly, it does a pretty good job. i used this camera and camcorder on my trip to europe. it worked pretty good during the day and night.

I haven't downloaded the files yet, or reviewed them on my computer or TV, but i am sure that they will be pretty good. hopefully in the up coming days i will be able to comment on that.

Comments about Sanyo VPC-FH1ABK Dual Camera Xacti Camcorder (Black):

Pros: The size, video quality, and ease of use make this camera a winner.

Cons: The sound is limited to an internal mic but for general purposes it is fine. You have to downgrade the video quality to import video into Imovie as Imovie will trim frames to process 1080p. It will take it but some of the clip will be missing.

Summary: This camera delivers a lot of bang for the buck compared to higher priced HD models.
