Naturescapes Safety Plate is for the Gitzo GT5541LS and GT1548 tripods. It provides additional support to the tripods top plate, in-order to safely carry the tripod over the shoulder with a camera, telephoto lens, teleconverter, and flash attached.
The plate is manufactured using aerospace industry 6061 anodized aluminum, along with two stainless steel bolts. It fits perfectly and snugly below the existing Gitzo plate, inside the "basin." Once installed, the Gitzo plate cannot move or loosen, therefore preventing the head and photo equipment from falling.

I've never heard of a Gitzo tripod coming apart but this simple safety device guarantees it can't happen and that makes me feel more secure when I have $8k worth of lens hanging off my shoulder.

Comments about Naturescapes Safety Plate for Gitzo GT5541LS and GT1548 Tripods:
Once I saw the tripod in my hands, I understood the reason for this safety plate. Even though the top plate of the Gitzo is machined perfectly to fit into the tripod, some metals expand and/or contract going from +70 degrees to -20 enough to possibly cause it to loosen and dump my body and lens on the ground. With this safety plate, I can rest assured that will not happen. It seems like a lot of money for the plate but it needs to be considered as a one time only payment for insurance. I can now throw the tripod over my shoulder with camera and lens attached without a single worry.

Added to the Gitzo 5541 LS legs this provides the security I need for my Canon ef800mm f5.6 lens on a Wimberley 11 head. Peace of mind is worth the money.

Comments about Naturescapes Safety Plate for Gitzo GT5541LS and GT1548 Tripods:
This product installs quickly and easily. It is made of a robust material that should last indefinetly. The fit is very well designed and it appears to be like an original part of the tripod. In my opinion the only weak point of the design is the bolt that holds it in place. The metal needs to be of a harder material than the supplied bolt is made of. One might think that over time while supporting a long lens and camera the bolt could be prown to wear and could snap. The overall cost of this item is quite high for the design and material that it is made of. [...]People need to judge for themselves it they require this product. For me it is a supplement for the existing system and not a cure for these horror stories that we hear about falling equipment etc. One should still remain dilligent in the tightening of their tripod bolts to ensure total safety.

Comments about Naturescapes Safety Plate for Gitzo GT5541LS and GT1548 Tripods:
The Gitzo 5541 tripod system relies on one bolt to hold the head to the legs. If that ever happens, the head, camera and lens could tumble to the ground. This is a security device to prevent such an accident.

Comments about Naturescapes Safety Plate for Gitzo GT5541LS and GT1548 Tripods:
It is a bit difficult (or just plain simple) to comment on this product. Once it has been attached to its hidden place and the tripod head does not fall apart it does its job very well and that's exactly what it is built for. I think it is a cheap insurance for your expensive gear attached to this dedicated tripod. I took notice of this safety plate while reading a comprehensive review of the GT5541LS and just want to say thanks for this tip.
