Wolverine's F2D 35mm Film Scanner is a scanner which can quickly digitize and preserve your valuable film images and slides. The F2D scans an image in about 5 seconds at 1800 dpi resolution, and files are saved on internal memory or an external SD memory card. Images are displayed on the unit's 2.4" LCD color display, on a TV, or can be transferred to your computer.
Scanned image files are about 5MP each and a 1GB SD memory card will hold approximately 1000 JPEGs. Film or slides are placed onto the included slide or negative tray and loaded into the machine, one frame at a time. Trays will accommodate 4 slides and a strip of 6 negatives. With one-touch buttons on the top of the unit, scanning, editing and saving functions are made easy.

Have been working through a box of 35 mm b&w negs, and a bunch of color negs. Very impressive. The converter is easy to use, once I learned the button sequence. The same button does more than one thing, depending on where you are in the sequence. The scans move easily into iPhoto for further manipulation. Dust is a bit of a problem, even when I use "canned Air". Bought a 2MB memory card, before it holds only 24 scans, now I don't know the top limit.
I used to be a darkroomer, it is hard to believe how easy this is. I wish I had a machine like this that would do 2.25" negs! And the pics look so good on my 24 inch computer screen.

Pros:
- ready to use right out of the box (provided you have a spare SD card)
- clear instructions
- simple slide rack that is easy to use
- buttons and settings are simple and user friendly
- two button presses for each slide take only a few seconds to accomplish (cleaning your slides before scanning will be the most time consuming part)
- handy brush included to clean dust off the scanning screen
Cons:
- COLORS ARE HIGHLY SATURATED
- DETAILS ARE LOST
Conclusion: I was using an Epson Perfection 3490 to scan slides at 3 minutes for 3 slides. I bought the Wolverine F2D to speed up the process of slide scanning and I was amazed how fast and easy it was to use right out of the box. BUT, when I compared the digital images from the same slides scanned on the Epson 3490 to those of the Wolverine F2D, the colors in the Wolverine F2D were over-saturated, which makes the ease of use and speed completely irrelevant. I bought this item based on the good reviews I found here on the B&H website, and I hope my review will same some of you the trouble of buying and testing and returning this product.

Comments about Wolverine F2D 35mm Film Scanner:
As with most products, you get what you pay for. I wouldn't recommend this scanner to someone who photographs on a professional level. This scanner is perfect for someone who has some old negatives lying around that they would like to have a look at for memories-sake. I used this scanner to upload some 35mm black and white negatives from a past photography course. The scanner made them appear to be sepia instead of black and white, but that could easily be fixed in a simple editing program.

I'm using the scanner to digitize slides that are about 50 years old. It's incredibly easy to use, with no set up or software required. True plug-and-play.
For the old slides (which are dirty and mildewed) this works great. It doesn't work as well with negatives from a few years ago. The colors are a bit dull.

Comments about Wolverine F2D 35mm Film Scanner:
The firware in the device is not windows compatible. If you rotate an image, it will not show the image in portrait orientation when using a Windows browser. I called the company and they told me they have no intentions of fixing the problem. Said if they fixed it to work in Windows then it wouldn't work in other platforms. As a former software developer, I found that response to be less than professional. Software needs to work on all platforms. Maybe they have a lazy programmer who doesn't know what he is doing. As a get around, I had to pull all the images into Photoshop and resave them. Photoshop saved them correctly.
Also, the light meter on the device is a bit flaky. Sometimes the images are too dark and sometimes they are totally washed out. It requires manual adjustment to get the right brightness.
I bought the converter because I am digitizing over 2000 slides for an archive project. It's getting the job done but I have to correct a lot of things in Photoshop.

I have over 2,000 color slides from the 70's and 80's of travel and family that I want to digitize and share with family. Using a projector and screen is cumbesome.
I am able to scan over 200 slides in less than 45 minutes with this little gem. There is no software to load on a computer; you scan to a chip and load the chip to the computer. The scanner defaults the light requirement, but the user can increase or decrease light depending on the slide.
I tried another scanner, but I could only scan one slide at a time. Resolution was not as good as the Wolverine. This is a great scanner at a great price.

I had 140 slides from the nineteen 50s 60s and 70s and now thanks to this inexpensive little beauty I now have prints that I can view without any set up of viewers etc. My brother and my kids were so thrilled to get them because they've never seen them before since they've been packed away all this time. This is a well built unit and if you take time to study the manual it's easy to use. Worth every penny.

You buy something. You have doubts that it is going to do what it says it will do. Let me tell you...thats what i was thinking when i ordered this product. I was SO wrong. IT IS AWESOME. I had tons of old black and white negatives from the 1970,s. I took the negatives, used this scanner (and it was easy), got them right on the computer, Fixed them up with photoshop, and oh my goodness...they were awesome. Better than I ever imagined. The pictures came to life. Great product, does exactly what it says.

I just tried this out on some black and white film. It works great! I can't wait to do more. Very simple to use, can save directly to a computer or a memory card. Be sure to clean it often or you'll get specs when you scan.

I AM TRYING TO PUT MY OLD SLIDE COLLECTION A CD. IT IS VERY SIMPLE TO USE, AND IT DOES THE JOB. THIS WAS JUST THE PIECE OF EQUIPMENT I WAS LOOKING FOR. I DID NOT WANT TO SPEND A LOT ON A SLIDE SCANNER THAT I WAS ONLY GOING TO USE FOR ONE JOB. IT ONLY HANDLES 4 SLIDES AT A TIME, WHICH WILL MAKE THE JOB LONGER TO COMPLETE.

Comments about Wolverine F2D 35mm Film Scanner:
So far I have transferred over 1,800 old slides. The sole purpose of these transferes are to retain the image as the original slides were really fading and some were even starting to show mold. Very easy to use and since you are copying all slides onto a memory chip you are not tied to the computer. Also, no matter what order you put them in you can then move them into individual folder designated by location and date. The quality of the original slide dictates the quality of the copy.

Using it to transfer slides to a card and then to photos at a kiosk. Easy to use, even for an old cogger. Not sure about the quality of the photos. Could be the slides are very old. I'd recommend it.

Have a gazillion slides that are aging over the years, I wanted to convert them to computer disc files. This unit is easy to use and the instructions are clear.
I think the price is excellent, considering going to a commercial store and converting slides would be much more expensive. This scanner does the job, and I think the results are excellent

Easy to use- I scanned over 900 slides in a weekend-saving them as a birthday present for mt Father who took all early pictures as slides- was easy, set up in <5 minutes out of the box, good quality- did not need to be professional grad- but will look great as a 75th b-day present of the 'early years'. Would recommend to anyone wanting to save old slides- great for the price.
