i shoot mostly video with the 7D and this lens always seems to have the right perspective. i love it. it's sharp as a tack, the focus is perfectly smooth, color and contrast are exceptional. highly recommend it.

First impression of this lens is build quality. It does feels like an expensive lens. Focusing is so smooth. However if you like lightweight lens you may want to think about it. Regarding picture quality, I love its contrasty look. But beware when you shoot against light source. I found purple-color fringing is rather annoying.

Haven't used it much yet but I mostly liked the results.
I was a bit disappointed with the color fringing of darker objects against the highlights when viewed 100% but was able to cleanup that up with PS.

I use this prime with the Canon 7D and have no complaints whatsoever. Images are super-sharp and clear, color fidelity is outstanding. Manual focus is responsive and easy to do.

More importantly--and if you can afford the admittedly hefty price tag--this lens is a must for anyone interested in HDSLR videography. Just the right blend (to my eye) of contrast and sharpness.

This lens follows faithfully in the footsteps of Zeiss's heritage of excellent optics. (Based on photo-only use with a Canon 5DII, a 5D, and a 1DsIII.) This manual-focus lens captures razor-sharp, distortion-free images corner-to-corner. Like most Zeiss lenses the image tends to be a bit contrasty and also a bit warmer than a Canon lens. You should also note that the lens does have quite a marked edge light fall-off (vignette) wide-open at f/2.0.Before buying this lens I strongly recommend that you honestly consider your profile. This lens is much more costly, much larger/heavier, and a tad slower than the Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 lens. It's also going to be a little slower to focus. In comparing images captured at identical exposure settings between this lens and the Canon frankly it would be hard to make a strong case for spending the additional [$] for this lens unless you really need this lens's characteristics. Most people will be equally well-served by the much less costly, much smaller/lighter Canon 28mm lens.You might also consider getting a higher-resolution focusing screen for your Canon.So overall I would recommend this lens but only to someone who was jonesing for a top-notch manual lens without regard for other characteristics.

Excellent contrast and color rendering. Sharpness is comparable to best Canon lenses like 135/2. Flare control is very good. This lens has moderate amount of chromatic aberration, which can be removed in some RAW converters, but some Zeiss ZE lenses have better correction.

The focusing ring is very smooth and focusing is much easier than manual focus on Canon AF lenses.

This lens is a bit of a throwback, but a very good, sharp throwback. I appreciate my Canon 5D and the various L series lenses, but using this on my 5D is like going back in time to the heavier, well made, sharp-as-a-tack lenses of 25-30 years ago. Yes, you have to focus manually, but that isn't a big problem with a wide angle lens. I also find that my raw files need less to zero sharpening in Photoshop because they just start out sharper when using this lens versus the various L lenses I have.

A truly great lens, and one which I am glad to have deviated from the Canon line.
