The DPL700 PhotoTrackr Lite Geo works right out of the box (even the battery is included in the shipment).Installing the software only takes a few minutes. The only slight hiccup was to get the Google Map API key registered to the software (the automatic launch window didn't produce the desired outcome and the API key needed to be entered manually in the options of the software program. Not a big deal, but nonetheless one star less for this in the overall rating). The software exports GPX data files, which I upload directly into Adobe Lightroom to geotag my photos. The Gisteq software can also be used to geotag photos, but RAW is only supported by the Pro version, which costs another $19.99 to get the unlock key.

I took me 4 hour put this to device work, to learn that the software that comes with it, does not support Raw files and can not write to Exif files, so you need to upgrade to the "pro" version of the software ($ 25). This is unacceptable. The Mac version, it's not easy to synchronize with the camera. Test after test, It finally worked. I must say, that I find the concept good, I just can't understand why a "no-brainer"concept is turned into a rocket-science-pHD-have-to-be. If you are a "pro" be ready to expend the extra $ 25

Comments about GiSTEQ DPL700 PhotoTrackr Lite Geo:
The unit itself works, not super accurate but close enough. The biggest problem is software, took several installs to work correctly. Instructions are useless. After photos are run through Phototrackr you will have coordinates, but when I opened the in Adobe Bridge and looked at the camera data exif, the date and time that the photos were taken was missing. If you use the steps in the instruction to process JPEG pictures it keeps prompting you to upgrade to the pro version and stops at that point. Could be a descent product for the money if Gisteq would act on customer reviews.

Comments about GiSTEQ DPL700 PhotoTrackr Lite Geo:
Takes a long time to acquire satellites. I also found battery life somewhat short. It is evident that the instructions were translated into english as they are somewaht lacking. Finally the software is a bit clunky.
I will continue to overcome the short commings as I need to geotag environmental photos.

Comments about GiSTEQ DPL700 PhotoTrackr Lite Geo:
It seems to be fixing GPS OK (aacording to the light) but its software could not be run. It must be registered and it says that it cannot connect the server for activation.
It seems that there is no other way to download GPS data than its own software, and it does not run.
PS Inet is OK. Windows 7

Used more to track walking adventures. Battery cover not durable. I returned for repair under warrenty, but it broke again. Occasionly scatters your location and puts you off your course. Does not work well in city environs. great integation with google maps.

I have a Casio Exlim 12.1 (EX-Z1200) it has no geo tracking capability. I bought the DPL700 so I could track my photos.
This is a great product and extremely easy to use and set up. I'm a casual photographer and I was worried that this would be difficult to use and was very pleased with the ease of setup and use.
I clipped to my belt loop and the DPL700 did the rest!
One caution -- check the battery often. I found that a regular alkaline battery lasts about 8 - 10 hours and it's good to check often.
Also, B & H Photo performed as promised. Very Happy

I use the DPL700 whenever I am shooting or hiking. The battery last for a good long day of shooting. But just in case I keep a spare AA battery as backup. The GPS receiver works fine from within my jacket pocket.A note about getting valid Google Map API for the software: use [@] when applying for API, I had to google this solution.I only use the software for exporting to GPX. I let Jeffrey Friedl's Geoencoding Plugin for Lightroom handle the actual geotagging process.

I am going on a trip where power is not available. In looking at the options and the use after being in the wilderness I decided on Lite. I had a mini and sent in back because of having to have power to recharge it. It was handy otherwise. I also looked at amod and it looked good. But, having the ability to replace one AA battery (normal or rechargable) is nice even when power is available. The lite works nicely and I have seen no problem with it.
