I would've rated this DVD 4 or 5 stars if it wasn't for the non-photography related content included such as his wife's cooking lesson, interview with musician etc. Otherwise the teaching content is good. I use all of Honl's products so it's good to see how he applies it in the field.

It's a fun video but not a tutorial. I bought it because it wasn't a "cookie cutter" tutorial but a look into David Honl's thought process. If you don't already understand the fundamentals of lighting, this won't do anything for you.

I have invested time and money in as many training/tutorials DVD's as I can get my hands on. Sadly, I have to say this one was a waste of both. It comes with two DVD's of which far too much time is wasted. My impression after watching them (it took several attempts because I was terribly bored) is that it's one part chit-chat with his wife and friends, one part look how cool my line of modifiers is , and one very small part lighting set-up tutorial. He does some very basic set-ups and then spends more time drawing pictures of them than actually showing you. Sad thing is that the set-ups are so easy that a drawing/diagram is hardly warranted. I would NOT recommend this to anyone at all!!

I expected a lot more photography content than what I got. I don't see why two dvds were needed for such little content. He had a cooking class by his wife as well as the interview with Billy Mummy I don't see how that is needed for lighting like a pro. The actual instructional work was good.
