The Time Capsule from Apple is an Internet router with a built-in hard drive, designed for use with OS X Leopard's Time Machine backup software. It can backup your Mac over Wi-Fi, ensuring that your data is always protected. It even features a USB port for printer and hard disk sharing.
The router allows you to share your Internet connection between several computers via the draft 802.11n wireless protocol. It also features three standard 10/100/1000Mbps RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet ports. The router is fully backwards compatible with legacy 802.11a/b/g devices.
The Time Capsule features a firewall to protect you from malicious software that can attack your computer from the Internet, as well as wireless security to insure that your data remains private. It can serve as an Internet router for both Macs and PCs.

It just works...
This product is a bit unique as it is both a back up solution and a wireless base station. Also I have mostly Apple products so one would expect near perfect integration.
This product is a bit unique as it is both a back up solution and a wireless base station. Also I have mostly Apple products so one would expect near perfect integration.
It does deliver - easy to set up, wireless was working in about a minute. I had a Netgear wireless base station (one of the consumer models). This has a somewhat better range although the range with the NG was not bad.
The "Time Machine" backups were also simple to set up for both new Macs and older ones (they do need to be new enough to have the Time Capsule software - I believe that is OS 10.5). The backups run automatically and painlessly even on older Macs.
I have a Windows laptop for work - it connects and uses the wireless just fine.
I had one problem, I have an older HP All-in-one (printer, scanner, copier) and it would not work through the Time Capsule. This did not surprise me - it wouldn't work through the Netgear either. The Time Capsule does see it and knows that it is a printer but the HP software cannot connect to it. I have an HP jet direct (a small box that makes the All-in-one accessible over ethernet) and this solves the problem.
The only con is perhaps cost as this is more expensive than a wireless access base station and an external hard disk. But the convenience of installing and having all your Macs backed up is worth it to me.

Easy to install and Apple phone help very useful. Time capsule links to my Apple Extreme router which allows me to have a WiFi supported printer in another room.

Comments about Apple Time Capsule (1TB):
I use the time capsule as a wireless router for my home network (replacing a D-Link) - the network supports three computers (2 PC's and an iMac) and two printers (a USB inkjet and a wireless laser printer) which are both connected to the Time Capsule. I also plan to use it for an iPhone in the future.
I finally can print to either printer from any computer - something that was intermittent at best when I connected the USB printer to one computer and shared it on the network.
The router set-up and configuration was the simplest I've ever done - the auto-configuration worked flawlessly the first time.
The Time Capsule backup also was effortless to set-up with the iMac's Time Machine. One click (possibly two) and it was off and running.
The only problem was getting the wireless printer working with the two PC's - it was visible and installed but nothing printed. It was simply a matter of setting up a new IP printer port and the printer's support easily handled that problem.

Comments about Apple Time Capsule (1TB):
We are using the Time Capsule as a wireless router for an iMac as well as a PC laptop. Both are working great so far, with no dropped connections and great performance - particularly good for the iMac since it is very far away from Time Capsule on the other side of a metal wall and a microwave... Signal strength is great anyway. Setup wasn't as easy as it was billed to be... followed the directions and got the never-ended dreaded blinking yellow light rather than the green light. After lots of troubleshooting, pressing the reset button on the cable modem solved the problem (duh...I should have done that from the get go...) Also have it hooked up to a wireless printer via ethernet - also took a bit of troubleshooting but worked after figuring out the steps to reset the printer. So I guess it isn't super "plug and go" but with a bit of tweaking your other devices, it should run smoothly. I'm also backing up the iMac using Time Machine. Seems to be working OK so far. Wish it was possible to configure how often the devise backs up since hourly seems a bit excessive and I don't want to blow out this devise like other's users misfortunes.... I downloaded a related ap that lets you change the backup interval, so now I'm backing up twice a day without any thought. Love that....
Devise runs warm....even just sitting on the desk without performing a backup. I bought the optional extended warranty just in case... Hoping this will continue to perform just like it does now for a long time!

Not sure about this as a NAS for streaming media, I am still working on streaming iTunes library from it. It is great for Time Machine. I have turned off the wireless and I am not using it for routing. I have attached a WD My Book to the USB port and I can access it from my Mac Book Pro just fine. It does run warm to hot, so you'll probably want to keep it in a cool place. Overall, it does what it's primary function is; back up my Mac.

I bought a new Mac Pro last week and purchased the Time Capsule before I had the Mac. I was able to hook it up and use it with my old PC before the Mac arrived. When I powered up the MAC, the Time Capsule came up and I proceeded to do the first full backup. It only took a couple hours to back up the new system.
I like that I no longer have to think about doing backups. Everything is automatically backed up all the time. I would recommend this to anyone who lost data because they "forgot" to backup. Running the internet through it is seamless.

I purchased the Time Capsule to upgrade my Airport Extreme. I would first like to say that Apple pulled a sucky move. I was backing up through the Airport Extreme to a USB Hard Drive for 8 months and all was working fine. One day it stopped backup, After trying to figure out why ( Change the USB Drive Rebooted the Airport Extreme I called Apple. I was informed that the lasted update disabled the the Time Machine backups to a attched USB Drive. Cures you Steve Jobs. So I bit the bullet and bought the Time Capsule and it works Great.
Both the Time Capsule and the Extreme have a very strong signal and reach everyroom the house and I have 5 Device all hitting it. Linksys and Dlink could not give me a strong signal throughout the house and i kept dropping from the wireless connection. I give the device a 5 star and APPLE a 1 star for killing the Airport Extreme backup.

Comments about Apple Time Capsule (1TB):
So I just started using my 1 TB Time Capsule about 2 weeks ago. I watched a few YouTube videos regarding installation, and read the manual, and thus set up was easy and hassle free. My MBP is now backing up on the TC via Time Machine, and I can print wirelessly. Very nice. (Unfortunately, you can't use every feature of multi-purpose printers wirelessly. For instance, to scan items I have connect by hardline.) My only complaint is that I haven't been able to get my PC to print wireless via TC, nor to access it as a remote drive. I've read other customers had trouble figuring out how to set this up, and so I'm sure it's just a matter of fiddling around a bit. Still, just following their instructions didn't quite work for me.
But I can say that B&H's price was the best, even better than through my school's education discount.

Comments about Apple Time Capsule (1TB):
I've had the Time Capsule for about a month now. Very happy with its performance. Setup was extremely easy! Most exciting thing is to be able to share a printer between all computers on my home network.
I read a lot about long-term reliability complaints on Apple website. Many users stated that the TC quit working after 18 months or so due to overheating. I hope this deficiency has been fixed in models that are currently for sale. Just to be safe - I bought a 3 year protection plan from B&H and plan on using the TC for backup. I connected an external HD, where the data is kept and shared by all computers as well.
WiFi signal is much stronger than what I used to get with Linksys router. Plus guest network with a separate password is a nice added feature.

The time capsule is backing up my IMAC, home network, and digital photo archives.
The unit is well made, easy to install via my IMAC and plays nice with my Widows Based computers. The kid's XBOX and Playstation linked in on the first try.
I've had the Time Capsule up and running for about a month now. I've been prompted to update the software once. No major meltdowns.
Glad its in place, nice to know that after years of flying by the seat of my pants, I've finally got a back up that I can depend on.
