Comments about Bowens Gemini 1000 Pro Monolight:

I bought this product mainly based on its multi-voltage quality. This shop's website describes it: "Multi-voltage power system makes the Gemini 1000 operational almost anywhere in the world". Not quite. I live in Brazil, a bi-voltage country. We use both 110V and 220V, reason why I wanted this product. I bought it at B&H and brought to Brazil. When I used it with 110V it worked fine, but the first time I used it on the 220V mains, the modelling light burned. So I realised that it was written 110V on the bulb. So I called the manufacturer in England and got the confirmation that the flash is effectively multi-voltage, but the modelling light IS NOT! Incredible. So I complained and Bowens kindly posted me a 240V bulb. Conclusion, it will now work fine with 220V and will still work with 110V but with half power. Well, at least it's now multi-voltage. So if you buy this product and intend to use it in different voltage systems, make sure you place a 240V modelling light bulb in it. I think the units sold at B&H come with the American standard (110V), so buy the extra 240V bulb to avoid the frustrating experience I have just described. Otherwise, it's a great piece of gear!
