The US-122MKII from Tascam is a compact, high-speed USB 2.0 audio and MIDI interface that's compatible with both Windows and Mac computers. When the US-122MKII is plugged into an Apple or Windows computer, it acts as the computer's soundcard and features inputs for microphones, a guitar, and line-level devices like CD players and keyboards. It features durable construction and a very budget friendly price.
The included Cubase LE4 is a powerful audio and MIDI recording application that allows you to record and mix up to 48 tracks. You can automate your mixes, sweeten the sound with plug-ins, and create elaborate MIDI sequences, as well as take advantage of the built-in MIDI inputs and outputs. Cubase LE4 is compatible with both Windows and Mac computers.
The US-122MKII features individual inputs for either XLR or 1/4" sound sources, and can provide phantom power (which enables you to use professional microphones). Its construction is both attractive and sturdy. The compact size of the US-122MKII makes it ideal for studio and field recording, and the USB bus powering capability means that you never have to plug it into the outlet on the wall or fuss with a power cable.

Highly intelligent design that is intuitive and works right out of the box. Build quality and performance are extremely good. On the downside, I loaded the latest drivers and they didn't work with XP sp3. It took awhile to figure it out, but stepping back to the ver 2.0 drivers did the trick. Tascam's website was no help in this regard. Cubase, the recording software, is a pain to register and, IMO, is a lot more complicated to use than it needs to be. There's a pretty steep learning curve. Also, Cubase takes a frequent notion to stop working with Tascam's ASIO drivers. I finally discovered that using the generic ASIO drivers in Cubase seems to work ok. Fortunately, there are no such problems with the recording software that I usually use - DC8 for audio restoration. I was able to make pristine 24/96 recordings immediately with no fuss. I'm so impressed that I'm giving this unit to my brother so he can transfer his reel to reel tapes to digital. He's a recording novice and needs something that's user friendly and will do a good job. I've ordered the Tascam US-800 for myself.

i really wanted to like this product! i wanted to record multitrack audio on my intel core 2 quad system with 4gb of ram and a 7200 rpm sata hard drive. one would think these specs would be enough to do so? but nope! after playing with drivers and settings for 3 hours i finally got it to record but 3 tracks is the limit and more and the dropouts start again! i tried the newest tascam drivers and i also tried asio4all drivers with no luck. this product seems to made well i like the aluminum case and the only thing that seemed cheaply made to me was the 2 switches on top that toggle phantom power and line/guitar inputs. everything else seems solid. set up was a breeze just downloaded the newest drivers from tascam for os plugged in the device when the setup asked me to and wa la it was operational but all though it works it does not work well! i should also mention that i wanted this to record 24 bit 96khz audio and it is not at all capable of that gets audio dropouts every couple seconds. the only way i could get to record decent at all was at 16bit 44100 khz so if your looking to do the same look else where. bottom line is it is a nice looking device which was engineered with was serious thought i really do like the design if it would only handle like 12 or 16 tracks of playback i would love it? for someone who just wants a single input into their computer and only want to record one stereo track you will probably like this device, but for the home studio recordist it falls far short of usable!

Comments about Tascam US-122MKII - USB 2.0 Computer Audio Interface:
I use this to record vocals into my laptop and at first it was working great but then static started coming out of my speakers and my computer froze.. I at first blamed my old computer but then i noticed each time i unplugged the interface things worked normal.
During the time i had it it only worked about 50% of the time. But when it was working it worked great.
I asked around and people said it had something to do with windows drivers so im planning on returning it for a new interface.

Comments about Tascam US-122MKII - USB 2.0 Computer Audio Interface:
This was bought to record piano audio from a Casio keyboard as well as for digitizing reel to reel & cassette tapes. Audacity is used as the sound editing software on an Windows XP machine. Once drivers are installed, Tascam unit shows up as an audio source for both input and output in Audacity Resulting sound quality is very good for both stereo recording and playback through this USB device. So far I have only tried line level input and headphone output, but it has capabilities for XLR mike inputs and direct electric guitar connection as well as MIDI in and out. One limitation (clearly shown in manual) is that there is no turntable preamp so it can't connect directly to a turntable for recording.
Unit is quite sturdy with full size input and ouptput jacks. It will sit where you put it, even with cables coming out of both ends. Panel controls do the job, but feel like light-duty components. Various LEDs provide useful indications such as audio present and clipping. The unit gets its power exclusively from the USB port.
The only problems so far are occasional failure to play back through USB. This may very well be due to a Windows or Audacity problem, but the most reliable fix is to unplug Tascam unit, and plug it back in and restart Audacity.

Comments about Tascam US-122MKII - USB 2.0 Computer Audio Interface:
I bought this as a gift for a relative and have owned one for about 2 years. I owned the MK1 and could not find a better unit! I thought about buying an interface with 8 inputs but I really did not need that many inputs. This unit was a good investment! I bought the MK1 when it first came out and used it for years trouble free. It's easy to use and sound great! Buy and SM57 and your done.

I have owned and used pro audio gear for decades. This box performs as well as some of the most expensive I have ever owned. Use reasonably good mics and you will get great results. The pres are clean and quiet. I love that they used flat discs instead of knobs that stick out and break in transit - that is intelligent design. Works great here in Win7, XP and MacOS. No problems, drivers are solid. Low latency. I own 2 of these and am buying a few more, this is the perfect storm of form, function and price, every manufacturer could learn something from studying this piece of gear.

I had owned the previous model US122 and like this one better. The monitor mix knob on this is quieter and pans between source and computer output This is useful for balancing between input and the playback of tracks.
The limitations are the -10 output and no separate headphone volume. Can't decide if I like the headphone jack in front but you can't beat the price for a USB 2 audio/MIDI interface.

Comments about Tascam US-122MKII - USB 2.0 Computer Audio Interface:
I use the product for my album recording sessions and it helps. It makes my condensor microphone sound the way it is supposed to and it is very clear. I use it with Logic on my Macbook Pro and have no problems. At first you must go to the audio settings and change things of course and once you do that, it's just plug and play from there. It is bigger than I expected but still small enough to fit in my bag to take on the go and record. It's not complicated at all and it's a great buy. I seriously mean it. I'm Rawbigad and record rap music. Take it from me. Tascam is the way to go. You will certainly get a quality product when you buy the US-122MK 2. It's great for beginners and advanced producers alike. What are you waiting for. Stop reading my review and buy it. It works fine and is small enough to fit in your duffle bag with the rest of your studio equipment.

Using in Windows 7 64 bit. If I have too many programs running it will make a horrible static noise until I reset it. After doing some research, it seems to be a driver issue that they will probably fix. Should have gone with the m audio mobilepre, but this has the same specs for [$] less + driver problems.

Yes it is cheap and yes it does what it is supposed to but after 30 mins of using it, i started to get some randoms static noises. The only way to stop them was to unplug/replug and then it kept coming back at random intervals. After doing some research, i found that it is a commons problem that windows 7 users have with it.

The 122 and 144 are the same but the 144 has a couple more options. These are easy to use, intuitive, easy to set up, and deliver a nice clean sound. Only 2 channels for inputs, but that works for me. We recorded several songs "live" and the sound was clear and the recordings were good. Recording 1 instrument at a time using "Audacity" was even better. It seems like our limitations are our mics and our skills, not this unit. I love my little Tascam. It's not fancy, it is what it is, but it works great.

Hey there dudes! The sound is an amazing with the extremely low-noise mic preamps, true hi-z, midi in-outs and all this for just [$]! But all this bliss you can enjoy on one condition only - if you use the CD-drivers included with the sound-card but not the current 2.01 from the official site. Keep in mind never to experiment with them on W7 x64 as well as on Vista x64, unless you've a medical insurance for your ears, the drivers will drive u up the wall - it glitches as u start working.

I've used the Tascam US122 for 3 years and have nothing but great things to say about it. I sold it and bought the new MKII version, which is just as rugged and versatile but has a few improvements like moving the phones jack to the front of the unit. This is an excellent audio interface and you can't beat the price.

Comments about Tascam US-122MKII - USB 2.0 Computer Audio Interface:
the sound quality is good! the preamps are fairly noise free! and it is made well except for the little switches for the phantom power and guitar/line they are a little cheap but if handled with care they will probably be ok. the bad part is you have to practically be a software programmer to get it to work right! the driver install is easy pie, but setting up the sonar or cubase software to record and playback with out skips and pops was a real nightmare! finally after changing the buffer size in cubase from 0 to 2048 i was able to record 8 tracks and play them all back smoothly and even throw in a couple vst effects. i'm starting to like it now but it took me 3 days to get the software to work correctly. the computer i recorded on had windows xp media center ed a pentiumD 3 ghz dual core cpu and 2 gb or ddr2 pc4200 and a 7200 rpm hard drive, but i set up my projects and audio to be stored on a different hard drive to release some resources for my C: drive. the second day i was really frustrated so i ordered an emu 0404 pcie card but since i got this thing working finally i will keep it for my laptop!
