The Track Pack X2 from Tascam is a computer recording kit that includes a US-122mkII compact USB 2.0 computer audio interface and a TM-78 condenser microphone. When the US-122mkII is plugged into an Apple or Windows computer, it acts as the computer's soundcard and features inputs for microphones, guitars, and line-level devices like CD players and keyboards. It features durable construction and a very budget friendly price.
The Track Pack X2 kit is a complete computer recording solution. The included TM-78 microphone is ideal for recording instruments and voices. A microphone cable and a tabletop stand are also included. Cubase LE4 software allows you to record and mix up to 48 tracks. You can automate your mixes, sweeten the sound with plug-ins, and create MIDI sequences. It's compatible with both Windows and Mac computers.
The US-122mkII features individual inputs for either XLR or 1/4" sound sources, and can provide phantom power (which enables you to use professional microphones). Its construction is both attractive and sturdy. The compact size of the US-122mkII makes it ideal for studio and field recording, and the USB bus powering capability means that you never have to plug it into the outlet on the wall or fuss with a power cable.

Comments about Tascam Track Pack X2 - USB 2.0 Computer Audio Interface & Microphone Kit:
This is very simple to use. The only issue (that isn't even an issue)is that I had to send an email to Steinberg to get a new eLicenser Key. Cubase still works for 30 days without the key so that was no big deal at all. The mic sounds great with no distortion and the interface has very low latency. I would recommend this to ANYONE.

Got this for my media classes to compose their own video music tracks. Works perfect for guitars and microphones. Really simple. I didn't have explain it to the kids they were able to master it on their own in 30 minutes.

Comments about Tascam Track Pack X2 - USB 2.0 Computer Audio Interface & Microphone Kit:
I bought this package to begin my journey into the realm of recording. The mic is decent but I soon upgraded to a Rode NT1A. The frequency response is very flat from 150Hz to 2.5kHz, with several peaks from 4-15kHz, however I feel this mic sounds very dark compared to my NT1A. The interface sounds alright but the MIDI I/O never worked..I control via USB so this wasn't a problem for me. Like I read in a review before purchasing mine, the knobs on this unit all have different resistances which can be a bit awkward and feels cheap. The gain is somewhat noisy due to the preamps being powered fully by USB and I've had issues with the line in ports on mine- They seem to only work with 1/4" TS plugs and when TRS is used you get a very muffled and distant sound, even though the manual say both types of 1/4" connectors are compatible. (I've found that it will sound good if you use TRS but don't plug it all the way in securely... however this is useless for any real-world application). I've recently upgraded to a separate outboard preamp and will be replacing this unit with a Tascam US1641 b/c I need more I/O and it has much cleaner gain stages when compared to a US122/144. I'll keep this unit for a mobile soundcard for DJing and possibly live stereo applications but other than that it will be in the closet. Definitely got me up and running for recording though!
