Comments about Tascam MD-02B Rackmount MiniDisc Audio Recorder:
I recieved in good order my Tascam MD-02D. All functions worked properly. The problem was the sound. Minidiscs played on or recorded on the machine were distorted. Extreme sibilance occured with an exaggerated high end and exaggerated bass. I tried the unit on 3 different systems. I tested it with (1) commercial Mindiscs; (2) minidiscs recorded on my Sony MD-520 and (3) minidiscs recorded on the Tascam. At first I thought it was a defective DAC but I got the same effect when played back through the digital out. I contacted B&H and they immediately responded and sent me an RMA, concluding that the deck was defective. I have never seen such customer service. B&H is tops in my book.

Comments about Tascam MD-02B Rackmount MiniDisc Audio Recorder:
I have transfered all my vinyl LP's to the MiniDisk format many years ago. It is the most versatile recording format available. Too bad is is fading into history. I had two Sony MD decks and one was failing fast, so I bought the Tascam. I think it repoduces the sound from the LP albums better than the Sony. Everything seems to sound better to my ears. I like the fact that you can easily label all the tracks with my old computer keyboard. I also make compilations of my favorite tracks from my CD player. All around, it was a good decision to buy.

Comments about Tascam MD-02B Rackmount MiniDisc Audio Recorder:
I use the minidisc format to master mix Cds, which is what I listen to exclusively for music. I record at the medium LP mode which is in stereo and still has excellent sound. The versatility of the MD format is unmatched by any other consumer format and should remain a vibrant format. Unfortunately, it appears to be a fading format. I took prcautions. This particular Tascam product is a back-up unit. It will remain in its sealed carton unless and until any of my other MD decks fail. I am pretty sure I will like the 02B more than the other two decks I use, a Sony MDS-JE480 of which I purchased 3 units several years ago. I also own and use almost daily two Pioneer MJ-D707 decks. I also master CDs using good old Pioneer reel-to-reel decks. MD is by far the easiest and most versatile format and I use MD the most by far. I will rate this product a 5 but it is a ficticious rating based upon my expectations.[...] I am grateful to Tascam for manufacturing a new MD product as well.
