Planon has created a technical marvel, the PS905ME PrintStik Full-Page Portable Bluetooth Printer (Monochrome). The PS905ME is a fully self-contained pocket-sized printer, complete with paper and battery. At only 10.75" long, and weighing only 1.5 lb (513 g), the PS905ME with Bluetooth can be used almost anywhere and can be carried easily in a coat pocket, purse, laptop case or backpack. Bluetooth connectivity provides a simple, reliable cable-free printing connection to a laptop, Blackberry or WinMobile smart phones.
Using Direct Thermal Technology, the PrintStik PS905ME outputs letter-sized documents at up to 3ppm with resolutions up to 600dpi. It uses thermal paper thus eliminating the need for messy and expensive ink, toner, or ribbons. Supplied in convenient 20-sheet cartridges, the paper inside is rolled but the printer produces straight, flat sheets.

After successfully setting up about 20 of our staff with an excellent portable scanner (Pentax DSmobile 600), we wanted to provide them with a companion printer. We compared the "Pentax/Brother PocketJet 3" and the "PrintStik PS905ME" (apparently the only printers in this portable category), and we chose the PrintStik since it had all of the features we needed, and the price offered by bhphotovideo was stellar.
The PrintStik did everything it claimed to do and we had no problems getting it set up - the Bluetooth printing was very nice. It just works like any other printer would in Windows. However, being a portable device, the manufacturer obviously had to make some trade offs.
Our main problem is with the paper. First off, the paper isn't readily available at retail stores; you must purchase it online from a few limited locations, but this issue might improve as the product matures. Since this printer uses a paper roll, you must rip the paper off yourself, but the included cutter teeth were far from ideal and the paper is so thin (tracing paper thin) that it can tear up your document if you don't practice your ripping technique. Also, the quality of the print isn't that impressive, but it will get the job done.
Overall, the PrintStik wasn't something we decided to implement for our staff. Printing a document from the PrintStik at high quality, signing it with ink, then scanning it with our portable scanner (DSmobile 600) at high quality resulted in a final document that was of low quality. It was also a time consuming and clunky procedure because of the ripping problem, and the scanner didn't always feed the thin paper through.
If these things don't matter or don't apply to you, then I would recommend the PrintStik because it is a decent printer at an affordable price, and one of the only products available in this portable category. But if you are looking to pair this up with a portable scanner, you might want to research other options first.

I almost think having a printer is essential for any household these days. However tie this is with a blackberry and you are really laughing. It's so easy to setup and use on the road. Especially if you have last minute items to print.
