Manhattan LCD's HD089B 8.9" HD Pro Monitor is a bright, fully HD-compatible widescreen LCD monitor with a high-resolution 1024 x 600 screen that lets you really see what you're focusing on. With its advanced color controls, multiple inputs, anamorphic 16:9 image and 1:1 pixel mapping, the 8.9" display is bigger, sharper, and more versatile than any in-camera LCD screen. Whether shooting run-and-gun with a video DSLR or lifting your camcorder high on the end of a jib, the HD089B helps you frame and focus your HD images with true confidence – and on a budget you can afford.
The HD089B includes a special aspect ratio for the Canon 50D, 60D, 5D, T2I, and T3I cameras. These popular cameras are difficult to use with standard field monitors, as the cameras' preview and record modes require a custom aspect ratio to display the picture without distortion. The HD089B's "DSLR Rec" is an automatic aspect ratio that corrects Canon DSLR record and preview modes, providing a proper picture.
The monitor's False Color feature transforms video brightness to a colored scale that helps the operator in setting a camera's exposure. As the camera's exposure is adjusted, the picture changes colors based on brightness levels. Once this setting is locked in, you will know you are getting suitable exposure without expensive equipment.
Peaking (focus assist) shows you the position of the camera's focal plane. As you rack the focus back and forth you can see objects come in and out of focus by way of a bright white outline. Other convenient features include upgradeable firmware, NTSC/PAL auto-detect, and two 1/4"-20 mounting threads – one on top, one on bottom, for increased versatility.

Comments about Manhattan LCD HD089B 8.9" HD Field Monitor:
I had high hopes for this monitor. Based on the specs, it seemed perfect for my Canon HDSLR work, and the price was right. Unfortunately, it didn't turn out that way. First, the monitor looks like it was put together in a home workshop using parts from [...]. The included remote is obviously an off-the-shelf universal TV remote that has been re-programmed but not relabeled. The only way to figure out what the buttons do is to read the .pdf manual. (Not a single piece of paper came with the unit) But I figured it didn't matter what the thing looked like as long as it worked. The HDMI image is decent enough, but everything else about the monitor was a total disappointment. I found the menu structure very difficult to navigate and the placement of the buttons (in reverse order on the side of the monitor) was just nuts. Trying to use the remote (with its unlabeled buttons) was equally frustrating. The remote sensor is on the left side of the monitor which means you have to hold the remote in your left hand and extend your arm in order to point it at the sensor while trying to see the screen front on. In fairness I have to say that the Manhattan Video tech support person was very responsive when I was trying to figure out how to use the thing, but there was not much he could say. I do think the folks at Manhattan Video have the right idea. They just aren't there yet.

Comments about Manhattan LCD HD089B 8.9" HD Field Monitor:
The price and picture are what I like best. The extra screen size is nice too. Most other external monitors are around 7 inches.
The only complaints I have are the buttons. The buttons on my monitor seem loose, but I am not sure if it's just on the one I received. Also, the way the buttons are set up, navigating within the menu is awkward.
I do not regret buying this monitor.

Comments about Manhattan LCD HD089B 8.9" HD Field Monitor:
Needed this to monitor remote switched setup (with Edirol V440). Selected for price but VGA input is a bonus. Very versatile. Build quality is good tho looks somewhat un-refined, but that has no impact on function. Extremely useful and compact.
