After receiving VMSHD I found that it didn't do 5.1 Surround Sound, which I need for my new camcorder, I guess I didn't read the reviews enough to figure that out. Turns out I heed Vegas Movie Studio Platinum in order to do 5.1 Surround Sound. Why would B&H put Product that didn't work with this great camcorder in the Accessories section? Maybe because it sells for 1/3 the price of the correct version, I put my money down thinking I was buying a product that would work with my camcorder since 5.1 Surround Sound is one of the HD selling points of the camera. You would think B&H would know that If I am buying an $850 camera I would be happy to spend [$] for the right editing software. Oh well I get to buy them both.

This software came up a little short.
However the Sony Platnuim HD is and dvd program are much better.I have tried several editing programs.
The Sony plat HD is the only one that has full wide screen output so your dvd's work and look correct on all platforms, cpu, crt and lcd.

I upgraded from Vegas Movie Studio 9 and was pleased that this works pretty much identically. I'm not a huge expert, but know my way around, and it's so helpful that the two programs are similar. Great for internet video, sales pages, YouTube, etc.

For the price this isn't a bad little piece of software. I picked it up because my 11-year old daughter has gotten the bug and started shooting movies with her friends on her point-and-shoot. I didn't want to spring for FCP or Avid until she gets her feet wet, and this is a better choice than movie maker. Still - there are some things missing that are making it a challenge to teach her. Lack of an 'insert vs. overwrite' edit-commit button. I and O keystrokes can be used for In and Out points, and A will drop your edit onto the timeline at wherever the cursor is, but none of those keystrokes are in the documentation (at least I haven't found them yet if they are). It's like they stripped down Vegas Pro but left mysterious bits of it's functionality hidden for those who can find them. Also, setting up explorer, preview windows, source windows and the like is easy, but they are also easy to knock (literally) out of place. It makes it very flexible in how you set up your workspace, but I almost wish it was just a tad bit 'stiffer' in that respect. She keeps losing windows and we have yet to figure out what she's doing that causes it to happen.Still, she's pretty happy with it and seems to be having fun, so in the end it's doing exactly what I bought it for - and for [$], I can't think of anything that competes.

I'm an "advanced novice" (is that a real thing?) movie editor, and I have found Vegas to do almost everything I need. It opens every format you throw at it, has a nice interface, and allows you to edit clips without damaging the originals.
I haven't tried any "green-screening," so I can't comment on the functionality there. I did find some of the text effects to be limited and rather clunky. It could also use some more plug-ins for ease of use.
Over all, I would recommend this to anybody that needs something better than Moviemaker, but doesn't need to spend hundreds of dollars.

We use the product to put together videos from 3 minutes to 30 minutes. Short clips to major presentations. It's not made for total novices, but if you're even a stp beyond that - very worthwhile product. Not so many free plugins for more transitions, so expect to pay more, but the cost of the product is so cheap ([$]!), that you'll still spend way more than other professional products.

Sony Movie Studio has some good text and video feature I was looking for. I had demo'd VMS8 earlier in the year, and was looking for something that would accomplish certain tasks. The text capabilities are really good, photo & text panning and moving focus is good, however splitting video & audio is lacking, which I am surprised because in Sony Acid Studio is is really fast and easy.But at B&H's price, it is a really good deal.
