I purchased the GTV-DD-2-AA to be able to plug my new LED TV to my old surround sound receiver with no ptical input. The product works as advertised except for when watching streaming video over the internet (sound pops and cuts out for a few seconds). Contacted Geffen and they said it was the tv loosing audio signal for a moment. I can live with it for the short amount of time compared to the price of the component they said would fix it for an added $75.

I used this product very briefly, connecting a Panasonic Viera D2 to my old stereo - the TV is broadcast, i.e. an over the air signal. The decoder generates an audible 'pop' at every channel change.
Later, while watching a music performance (at moderate volume) the signal was momentarily lost - when it was reestablished, an incredibly loud 'pop' was generated that damaged the woofers in both speakers, which now need repair. This product should include filtering to remove audio noise of this magnitude - and consumers should know it is not appropriate for broadcast TV use. It worked OK when used with a DVD player only, and may work fine in a cable setup, although another reviewer noted the audible pop during power cycling.

I needed to connect audio signal from a Panasonic Viera TV to my old audio receiver/Bose surround system. Installation took two minutes and now I can listen to both TV and FM cable broadcasts through my old analog audio components. I haven't had any problems with the Genfen Decoder, and the solution couldn't have been easier.

Purchased a TV with a optical audio out and needed to add a wireless headphone. This unit changed the optical to electrical and does a fine job. Just plug and play.

This does work, and easy to install. But. the input button that allows you to choose between "Optical and Coaxial" source, seems to"prefer" coaxial. However, the input will stay on optocal most of the time after several tries.

Comments about GTV-DD-2-AA GefenTV Digital Audio Decoder:
This product worked perfect when connected directly to my optical out on my motherboard, but when I inserted a passive splitter, it would not work at all (silence). The same split off optical out worked fine when feeding my other two sources (optical inputs on two receivers in upstairs and downstairs rooms). I had to purchase an active (powered) optical splitter to get past the issue. Not really a problem with the product, but be aware that the optical strength seems to need to be stronger than what is needed to feed other equipment you may have.

Easy to use. The sound lost a bit of treble but you just have to adjust the equalizer and every thing will be fine. A lot better than the TV's speakers.

I just set this up. It was intuitive and connected easily. I wanted to use earphones connected to my HD TV and had to get the decoder for the digital audio out jack that would also work with Dolby stereo. This fit the need and worked on the first try. It does come with a power supply and multiple jacks for different power connections like for Europe and Asia. I had to purchase the digital audio cable separately.

After doing the research, I found that this is the decoder to get because it will decode Dolby Digital (5.1). Other less expensive models will not do 5.1. This device will cover most of your applications.

Faced with a new television which only had an optical audio output, and a new Bose sound system which only had analog inputs, this unit was exactly what I needed. Worked out of the box, simple to use, and the sound is amazing. In my internet research this was the only product I could find that appeared to solve the problem, and I am very pleased.

The unit was easy to install. I feel for the price charged the toslink cable should have been included. I get my TV only off air. If there is any disturbance in the video a very loud "pop" is heard in the audio. It has decoded the audio from every station I tuned in.

I use this to decode dolby digital sound & to convert optical audio out from my monitor/tv to l/r stereo on a subwoofer-speaker system. works nicely, but there is a loud poping sound from the speakers when I change channels on the tv, which I fear may eventually damage them. If you don't change channels it works just great, otherwise would have given 5 stars.

Comments about GTV-DD-2-AA GefenTV Digital Audio Decoder:
This little unit works quite well, with very decent D/A conversion. The only downside is it is VERY sensitive to signal changes that occur over cable and emits a loud "pop" each time that happens and when the channel changes. Not the fault of the unit, but it is annoying. Gefen is aware of the issue and reccomend the GTV-VOLCONT Volume Stabilizer to avoid this problem. That unit is about $45 more. If you can live with the occasional "pop" which occur on average 2-3 times an hour for me (no cable box, using the TV's tuner), then you can get away with the less expensive unit.

We bought this item to connect digital audio 3D TV to Analog RCA receiver. Unfortunately, we didn't have 5.1 surrund sound as promised.
Plus there is too much signal loss while sound transfer.
The sound will be stereo and it will be cut periodically while listening. We are thinking to return it.

Much to my suprise, other than HDMI, my new LCD flatscreen only had an optical audio output to connect to exterior components. Wanting to enhance the audio, I purchased a mid-quality soundbar - no surround - but it had only RCA connectors. The GTV-DD-2-AA GefenTV Digital Audio Decoder was the answer! It worked perfectly and even decodes the dolby signals from my blueray! Perfect solution!

Comments about GTV-DD-2-AA GefenTV Digital Audio Decoder:
I used this to connect Dolby optical audio out from a Panasonic TV to RCA compatible signal in to my legacy stereo.
Converted the audio fine. Big audio 'pops' whenever a signal is lost then re-acquired (i.e. during channel changes and when losing broadcast signal). One very big pop blew the foam surrounds on my old speakers - I was able to repair them, but returned the unit, as the popping is an annoyance.
I have been in contact with Gefen and they say they are redesigning to resolve the problem. If the pop is resolved, I will try again. Although it is pricey, the audio conversion was good. No Toslink optical cable is included, so you'll have to buy one.
