We purchased this filter in 2010 for use with our Sigma 150-500mm lens we purchased on the same date. Sadly, we did not get to use the lens very much until September of 2011. The first day out I got some great shots of great blue heron but when I looked at them on my computer all of the shots were very, very soft. So I did what I should have done before buying the lens, I read the reviews. I tried what the reviewers reccomended. I changed the aperature to f/8 and hesitated a short time after pressing the shutter button down half way to give the stabilizer time to catch up with the lens, but my shots did not improve much until I took off the Hoya lens filter. With the filter off I got pretty good results at f/6.3, 7.1 and 8.0: with the filter on I got really soft results at f/6.3. At f/7.1 and f/8.0 the results were not as soft as at f/6.3. I now use the lens without the Hoya filter and get pretty good results. My advice? Before deciding on which filter to buy read the reviews. Then, before you put the filter on your camera, take a half dozen or so tests shots with the filter off and then with the filter on, and then compare the results. I tried this with my other long lens using the same target as I did with the Sigma and found that the filter that I had purchased for that lens actually improved my shots.

Anyone who has a valuable lens should know that a filter is important not only to provide variation in the lens, but protect the glass itself.

I primarily use the UV filter to protect my expensive 150-500 telephoto zoom lens. I also hope to cut out internal reflections in the lens for bright subjects, which I'm told the multi-coating helps in.

No much to say really. Lives up to the standards expected of a Hoya filter delivering clear images and maintaining the optical quality of the lens.

I put this filter on a 200-500mm Tamron lens. It does a good job, and I definitely recommend multi-coated filters for digital SLRs. The reason has to do with light bouncing around the inside of the lens and reflecting off the back surface. This filter does the job nicely for me.
