The Compact SteadePod is a unique camera support device that helps you get sharper photos, with less blurring in your pictures. It resembles a stainless-steel tape measure--you attach one end to your camera, pull the retractable 6' steel cable down to the ground, hold it with your foot, and the slight tension on the cable gives you a steady camera position. Easy to carry and quick to set up, the SteadePod is great for low-light situations and working with telephoto and zoom lenses on digital cameras and video.

Comments about Compact SteadePod:
Great product! very easy to work with, small fits in a pocket, just great invention!!!
Cons: switching between the modes (locked, adjust/retract, and extend), is not seamless.
Improvement suggestion: Would be nice if would be a snap on rather than attach with the screw, or instead attach a thin screw holder which the steadePod attaches to with a quick snap on for quick operation.
Overall, well worth the cost. You can shoot video (or stills), with much better stability but without the need of tripod or monopod.

Comments about Compact SteadePod:
The user needs to exert minimum tension to keep camera steady however, the user also needs to concentrate NOT to sway to the side. Now I'm leaving my tri/monopods at home.

Comments about Compact SteadePod:
I like it better than a monopod because it is effectively self-leveling and trivially easy to switch from a horizontal to a vertical shot. With a monopod, if I move slightly to one side to get a better shot I have to reposition the whole thing to keep the camera level, and if it isn't perfectly vertical I can't push down very hard to keep it steady. The SteadePod has no such problems. Just pull up, compose, and shoot. It is fragile however. [...] I have had the replacement unit fail to retract the cable only to discover later that it fixed itself during an airplane flight. It may not be 100% reliable but it comes with a "lifetime service policy" from the manufacturer.

Comments about Compact SteadePod:
surprisingly effective. tucking under my belt is actually at least as effective as under my foot....it allows easier camera change of composition.

Comments about Compact SteadePod:
It does help in holding the camera more steady. It's light weight and small. It's priced right. Unlike another reviewer I didn't find it too cheaply made. It should last until the spring in the automatic rewinder gives out. This method takes some getting used to and several seconds to set. There will be times when I'm glad to have it for it's portability. Won't get used a lot.

Comments about Compact SteadePod:
Easy to use and well constructed. The premiss is that with enough tension you can cut down on camera shake. It does only for about one to two stops slower. The manufactures comments seem over stated. Tripods, mono pods still your best best.

Great Concept but Poorly Made! [...]Made totally out of plastic! 3 screws hold the unit togeather and all 3 were sheared-off [...] If this product could be made and machined well it would be a great asset to any photographer...

Comments about Compact SteadePod:
I wanted to use this with my Flip. I shoot video twice a week at often-crowded performances. It is light and convenient to have in a pocket. However, it never retracted well, at all. I noticed this at the store but I am careful person and thought I could deal with it. I am totally disappointed with this piece of plastic and long string, which is all it is now. I only used it five times. I hope they improve the quality because I could really use something like this.... that works.
