I first used the Lally Cap before I updated the firmware on my Nikon D700 camera. After the update I took a series of two pictures of many types of objects indoors and outside; first with the Lally Cap Custom WB and the second with the auto-WB of the camera. Overall the Lally Cap did better than the auto-WB. In Lightroom the histogram showed the Lally Cap photos with more detail and colors not shown in the auto-WB photos. The Lally Cap tended towards the blue (cooler) side of the histogram, but not by a great amount. The Lally Cap did a very good job of balancing ambient light in a prayer chapel, exposure taken without ceiling light or flash. The purple cloth of the altar was the best purple I ever captured and the surrounding room was nicely lit. A photo of a park bench and green bushes behind it showed more depth of color with the Lally cap. The result is a photo that will need less post-editing or will allow me to spend more time to edit more creatively. A multi-color painting lit by natural daylight was more true to color with the Lally cap.

Should have researched more before spending.
I chose the cap because I am shooting Olympus and have different lens sizes, so I was hoping to get something universal and consistent. The cap is made from a regular piece of grey rip-stop nylon the kind the camera bag rain covers are made of. It comes with a wad of paper full of instructions too. Nowhere in the said instructions does it say that the material is a specific grey or that it is calibrated in any way. It is just a grey synthetic cloth and the results are worse than my E-3 auto wide balance.
It is also hard to put on, being very tight for the majority of the professional lenses.

Comments about Lally CAP White Balance Cap:
I purchased this hoping to have something small and fast to get a proper balance for my various lens'. BIG MISTAKE! It does NOT fit various sizes. I can't get it on anything larger than my 50mm f1.8 lens. Total waste of money.

Comments about Lally CAP White Balance Cap:
I bought this so that I would have a white balance cap that would fit all my lenses rather than a cap for each size. But after seeing this 28 cent import I felt pretty cheated by the [$] price tag. Add $5 for shipping I feel like an idiot. My advice? Skip it unless they lower the price to something respectable.

Comments about Lally CAP White Balance Cap:
This is the easiest way to set white balance in difficult environments such as indoor arenas where there is a combination of lighting sources. I find it much easier to use and far more accurate than the Expo Disc. However, all it is is a piece of standard gray rip-stop nylon with some elastic to hold it in place. If it sold for $5-10 it would be OK, but [$] is inexcusably greedy. Lally thinks way too much of himself.

After I tried the CAP I decided to return it. Difficult to instal over a telephoto lens on my K20D. Then it caught on the focus ring when removing.

This is the best, very easy to use and so far seems to be right on for White Balance, Color and everything else is super. A little harder to get on 77MM lense but is well worth the effort.

I use this product for both indoor and outdoor photography. I find it to work as well as any gray card and CBL (Color Balance Lens) for a fraction of the cost. For [$]it is a small investment for perfect color balance every time.I also own the 110mm CBL lens and will be posting it for auction very soon. All photographer's serious about getting the perfect color balance should own a Lally cap.Do yourself a favor and buy one today!

Comments about Lally CAP White Balance Cap:
I learned about the Lally CAP a few weeks ago and used it for the first time this week for portraits. I'll continue using it over the next few weeks for an extended portrait assignment. In conjunction with the Nikon 85mm D 1.4 lens and Nikon D700 it's an inexpensive and pretty easy way to establish white balance. I find it easier to use than white / gray cards. Sometimes (probably because it's new to me) I don't nail the balance on the first try, but the camera lets me know this, and I do it again. Biggest Caution: You need to re-establish WB if the light in the room changes during the shoot.

Comments about Lally CAP White Balance Cap:
All you need to do is place this light weight, flexible fabric cap on your lens, set the camera to custom white balance and shoot in the direction of your planned shot. The camera adjusts and saves the custom white balance setting, resulting in a better photo than AWB can produce. The lally cap is small, light, flexible and indestructible. It can be shoved into the littlest of camera case pockets. B&H was the only place I could find this handy product.
