I'm a busy university student and I do a lot of shooting around and about campus - because I'm in school, I'm usually wearing a backpack over my camera strap. Before I bought my RS-7 strap, I used a Tamrac 'gripper' strap over my shoulder, which did a very good job of gripping but became annoying to shoot with because I would have to pull the whole strap upwards when drawing out my camera. As I shoot concerts and a decent amount of sports, and prefer to wear my straps over the shoulder, I decided to look into the BlackRapid strap. The mechanism by which the R-Strap moves the camera upwards (the FastenR-3) is a well-machined piece of metal. And while the concept of the BlackRapid straps is very forward-thinking, it's not a particularly complex one. And while the RS-7 is ergonomically advanced in comparison to its competitors, the build quality of the strap itself is lacking. Not bad, per se, but not what you would expect for a [$] camera strap. Clear weak points are the adjustable plastic clips that stop the fastened camera from sliding uncontrollably back and forth on the strap - considering how many people are going to be swinging heavy metal bodies from their BR straps, metal clips would have been a better choice. The nylon length on which the camera slides is thin and could probably be cut with an ordinary pair of scissors. The shoulder 'pad' is ballistic nylon for "extreme durability", according to BlackRapid, but their nylon doesn't quite compare to the toughness or durability of other brands (Domke and even my uncomfortable Tamrac strap.) The BlackRapid strap is very comfortable and easy to use - I definitely find myself fumbling for the shot less often than I did before. Because the strap is meant to be worn over the shoulder, it leaves the camera hanging at the hip and doesn't dig into your body. I usually shoot with a D300s with a 35mm f/1.8 prime and I hardly feel the weight of the Nikon's metal body at all, even while carrying a backpack with a laptop and textbooks. The design is top-notch, but the build quality is not as good as it should be considering the hefty price tag. (It's a trade-off for the superior ergonomics.) But with a little time and for considerably less money, you could easily DIY something just as good.

I have an RS-5, which is awesome but I wanted something thinner and less bulky. I thought the modular concept would be great, so I bought this sleek RS-7.
Should have noticed before buying -- I don't like that it unbuckles at the BACK, instead of front. I feel like anyone can unclip my strap from behind me and run off with my camera. Not sure if that's likely to happen at any time, but it's just not smart to design it that way.
They also moved the strap adjuster to the back, not the front like the RS-5. I know all this is to accommodate the modular JOEY attachments, but now it's just less ergonomic. I also reviewed the JOEY, decided I don't like it because they close with loud, wide velcro as opposed to the silent magnetic closure on the RS-5.
I think I will return this and just get the RS-4, because if I don't like the JOEY accessory pockets then thetre's no point to having the RS-7. Putting the buckle and adjuster in the back, not front, was a bad decision in my view.

Comments about BlackRapid RS-7 Camera Strap:
I shoot sports and carrying big glass on a body with a battery grip gets old in a hurry. A fellow shooter first introduced me to the BR system of straps and I was sold. Picked up a RS-7 for a new Nikon D7000 I purchased and screwed the clip onto my 70-200 2.8. It never comes off the lens -- and the camera is easily accessable as soon as I need it. Fully adjustable so that I have not problem using it despite being 6'4". Thanks for a great product.

Comments about BlackRapid RS-7 Camera Strap:
Carrying a D-3 ans a 24-70 lense around my neck can become cumbersome. With the RS-7 strap it is easy to grab and shoot. Only thing that can be a drawback is that the camera can accidently hit objects in tight areas.

Comments about BlackRapid RS-7 Camera Strap:
Even though the Nikon/Canon strap that comes with the camera is good to show who you represent, it's just not versatile.
This strap changes that. It hangs on your hip freeing your hands, making it not a chore to grab your camera for a quick picture. I can actually not carry my camera and also not worry about it falling off since it's basically screwed into the camera itself.
I use it everywhere I go, it's on my camera the whole time, I recommended it to my friends and they loved it.

I love this strap. It's 100% better then the stock strap that comes with your camera. It doesn't hurt your neck, and overall just makes your camera that much easier to use when out and about...

Comments about BlackRapid RS-7 Camera Strap:
I've been using my RS-7 for about a month now and I have to say it's a huge improvement over the OEM strap supplied by Canon. Now I can carry my camera for hours on end without getting a sore next and back, and easily bring the camera up for quick shots and return it without any fuss. But for what is basically a nylon strap, with a clip on a swivel [$] seems a bit rich.Overall, the strap makes it significantly easier when lugging a camera around for extended periods without intruding on your ability to bring the camera up to shoot, but I can't help feeling I've been had. I would recommend this to a friend, based on its merits but many would scoff at the price.

Comments about BlackRapid RS-7 Camera Strap:
It's my first non-default camera strap. It's great! The weight distribution works very good. I use it with a gripped Canon 7D + 70-200 IS II and it feels very light. You will forget that you have the camera with you.
It's very well built though my concerns go to the plastic guick release buckle on the strap. It looks sturdy but one can easily release it from behind. This is a potential security risk. IMHO it would have been better for the strap not to have it. If I can see a single point of failure, it would be the quick release.

Comments about BlackRapid RS-7 Camera Strap:
A number of people recommended this strap to me, and when I finally got it, I quickly understood why. My camera feels so much lighter than it did with a neck strap. I walked around with this strap for 4 hours without experiencing any of the discomfort I was used to. Having the camera hang at my side makes crowded events easier to navigate, and it's never in the way when I want to take notes.
The attachment is better than many I have seen shopping around, and the pad is great. My only complaint is the quick-release buckle. I fixed mine with a couple of zip ties.
If you use a tripod often, it may be a pain removing the sling, but I don't mind it myself.

i have wanting a better camera strap for so long and i needed one for my new Nikon D7000. browsing thu You Tube & B&H, i was convinced that the RS-7 was the right one for me. easier on the move, discreet, always ready to fire and one nice accessory. i was just thinking maybe the black rapid guys can come up with some 'belt clip' to further stabilize the cam and keep it from dangling in some situations...other than that its a swell addition to the D7000...my shooter friends have ordered their's too.

The concept is fantastic and the constructions is solid. My gripe is that the RS-7 is intended for right handed people and not us lefties. The padding is curved just enough to make it uncomfortable on the right shoulder and it can not be reversed.

I had always wrapped my camera strap around my wrist as I hated having it just dangle 'tourist style' around my neck. With the Black Rapid I'm able to have it hang out of the way when not in use, then to shooting position in a split second. Just goes to show how a simple idea can really make a big impact. I definitely recommend this product to anyone who needs their camera close to hand for any period of time.

I use the RS-7 Camera Strap by BlackRapid with a Canon DSLR. Using the srap allows you to carry the camera safely and at ease. When taking shots you can quickly swing the camera into action. The screwin fixing mount is strong and robust. In short the strap is well designed , robust and light weight. All desireable attributes in a camera strap.
