This Kirk BL-G11 L-Bracket for Canon G11 is a right-angle, quick-release bracket that fits on the base of the Canon G11, allowing you to quickly move from vertical to horizontal format without moving your tripod head or changing your position. The L-bracket allows access to the camera's I/O ports. It works especially well with wide-angle or macro applications. This bracket must be used with an (optional) Arca-style quick-release platform such as a ball head or quick-release clamp, and an (optional) camera plate is necessary.

No, most average folks wont need this. But when the G11 is used for time lapse- this bracket is key when you want to switch out Battery /Media Cards without nudging your camera.

Comments about Kirk BL-G11 L-Bracket for Canon G11:
It is hard to imagine a camera as small and light as the G11 causing a tripod to fall over. While this concept works well for a SLR, it really seems to be one more thing to carry around with limited usefulness. Once a tripod is level, rotating a camera to create a panoramic shot is easy.

Comments about Kirk BL-G11 L-Bracket for Canon G11:
If you haven't used an L-Bracket for your camera, here is something to think about. When you flop your expensive camera over to the side on your tripod, you have all that weight hanging off to the side. Your camera is trying very hard to pull that tripod over and if you give it a nudge it might just find a way to the ground. With the L-Bracket your camera is sitting on top of the tripod and the weight is centered, giving much more stability.
Another great use with the L-Bracket is for Panorama shots. With the camera sitting on the same level plane you merely just rotate the head and snap consecutive images to build a great pano image.
This Kirk L-Bracket allows for the above mentioned items, and allows for battery changes without removing it. It also has alignment marks to center the camera in your tripod clamp so when rotating it keeps the center of the lens directly over the tripod head.
