E-Films MxR ExpressCard SxS Replacement Adapter
The E-Films MxR ExpressCard SxS Replacement Adapter allows you to use low cost SDHC cards, up to 32GB, in Sony EX1 and EX3 cameras. This worked fine on my xdcam I first had to do the upgrade to make it work but after some searching online I was able to do the firmware upgrade to 1.11 on my EX1 and now it is working without any trouble. It was worth the effort of doing the upgrade. Now we can record long sessions and keep back up on the SD drives instead of using Hard Drives with risk off failure over time.

I cannot find a sdhc card to work with this reader. I send the factory my test results. The factory (in Australia) has stopped responding to my emails. They claim the Transcend 16gb Class 6 card will work. But my sony ex1 camera throws errors every minute throughout the recording. When it errors the recording stops dead. The Sony cards works fine just not any cards in the MxR reader. I bought two MxR express but expect that I will have to return them soon.

This is a great replacement for expensive SxS cards. I bought this adaptor knowing I won t be able to shoot over cranked footage but it was a surprise I my SandDisk Extreme III would not work with it. Instead, a much cheaper A-data class 10 card is perfectly compatible. This is really cheap and I have not experienced any problems at all with it !

Works great with the SDHC cards on my EX1R. It does just fine with really long clips as well as lots of short ones. Mostly, I love that I was able to save several hundred dollars for 32G worth of record time versus purchasing another 32G sxs card!
The only cons so far are with inserting and removing the SDHC cards. I have little fingers and (usually) some fingernails, so I don't have much trouble with the small cards. If you have large fingers, I could see how pushing the little SDHD cards in and out of the MxR card could be challenging (or at least irritating) when you're in a hurry.

Already own a few hoodman sxs adapters and got 2 of these after seeing they had a higher rating on the site -
They're junk - Besides feeling flimsy the SD cards become to recessed in the adapter and don't pop out well. I'm returning then tomorrow.
They're cheaper but you get what you pay for.

The E-Films adaptor works in our Camera, but the media cannot be read by our Sony SxS reader from the adaptor. It is a simple work-around to remove the SDHC card from the adaptor to copy the media directly using an SDHD card reader, but the Hoodman brand adaptor works correctly in the Sony reader just it would an SxS card. Also be sure to buy Cat 10 SDHC cards.

Looking for a more reasonable alternative to high cost SXS cards and so I wouldn't need my Sony Hard Drive unit, I decided to try this out with the 32GB Pro SDHC card. I put it through its paces on fast action at an airshow at full HD and 30P... Wow, fantastic performance. "Nuff Said" this did the job. Now, i can leave the HD unit in the office except when shooting long running events.I did have to contact the manufacturer when testing, the card just recorded a few seconds and stopped. Turns out that my SD card reader wasn't a SDHC reader... there is a difference and the standard one won't read the SDHC cards. Bought one for[$] and voila, instant success. If you have an issue, email the manufacturer, got an answer to the problem in about 30 minutes. Spot on solution and you can tell they care about customers.

We have two SONY PMW EX1 XDCAM's and have been able to double our recording time, using 16 GB Class 10, SDHC Memory Cards and the MxR ExpressCard Adapters. The Sony Express Cards are great, but a bit too pricey. The new setup gives us the flexibility to use less expensive recording media and still get high quality HD images.

I used this as a MUCH cheaper alternative to the standard (and expensive) SXS cards in Sony's EX1 camera, which we used to film sessions at a technical conference. With 2 of these adapters, we were able to use 32GB SD cards to record video all day long. Since the camera was hot-swappable, we extracted each card when it was full, pulled the content onto an external hard drive, erased the data on the card, and then re-inserted the card for continued recording.
The adapter has a great price, plus it facilitates the use of inexpensive and readily available SD cards for recording.
