The MediaStation 8x External Compact Blu-ray Writer from Buffalo is an external Blu-ray burner, which can connect to your computer via USB 2.0. The drive can read and write Blu-ray, DVD, and CD discs. Blu-ray discs are extremely robust storage media, with dual-layered discs holding up to 50GB of data.
The included Cyberlink software suite for Windows unleashes the full potential of the drive. You'll be able to use it to watch DVD movies with upscaled resolution, or true high-def Blu-ray movies. It also includes software for video editing, Blu-ray burning, DVD burning, packet writing, presentation, and backup.

No problem with this unit. Solid and of good quality. However, if you are a MAC user this might not be the unit you want. MAC does not have a lot of compatibility with blue-ray, especially for playable DVD's when using DVD studio pro. Currently, I can only burn BR from my FCP timeline. Also, BUffalo does not offer a MAC driver for this?

WINDOWS 7 (64 BIT) EASY INSTALL. JUST PLUG IN AND PLAY. THE CYBERLINK SOFTWARE SUITE IS DISSAPOINTING, AND IS ONLY AN OEM VERSION. THE BURNER ITSELF IS WORTH THE INVESTMENT.

Comments about Buffalo MediaStation 8x External Compact Blu-ray Writer:
It takes me a while to setup for playing Blu-ray movies. That requires you to download PowerDVD version 10. It works great with my recently purchased from B&H Toshiba serial A505-S6040. Buffalo Tech supports are real America fellows, but will take you quite a long time to get to, I mean 60 minutes. I have not try to burn any Blu-ray yet because I just got it play blu-ray movies.
This is my first Blu-ray experience.
For this price to 8X speed with USB 2.0 interface and require external AC adapter. I think is fair.
Comments about Buffalo MediaStation 8x External Compact Blu-ray Writer:
Since I got this writer I've stopped having any storage problems with large video and photography files. It burns everything on blu-ray-s and speeds up burning dvd-s and cd-s too. The only disadvantage is that the box is a bit bulky.
