So far I have only used this drive for backing up various stuff and uploading my cd collection to my computer. So far it has been able to hit the speeds claimed for these actions. I have not had one failed burn with the same media I was using with the old drive, losing about 20% previously.
The only negative thing is that it is large, which is offset by the sturdy steel case.

Bought it to replace a failing internal Matshita UJDA360. Connected the external power supply, the USB cable, turned it on and XP saw it immediately. So did Nero 6 and Ashampoo.Comes with an external power supply, no need to tie up a second USB port. Unit is reassuringly heavy.Runs up to 40X, although I tend to pull the throttle back, having had problems with other burners when running flat out. 40X worked fine on this for the couple times I tried it.Mainly used for backing up, and distributing photos to customers.

Purchased to replace failed Matsushita UJDA360 in Dell 4600c.
Plugged in USB and external power supply. Turned unit on and XP immediately saw it, as did already installed version of Nero 6 and Ashampoo. No further configuration needed.
Has worked flawlessly for CD backups.
It's heavy. I consider that to be a good thing. Feels solid. Laptop users may not be thrilled with the weight, size, or need for an external power supply.

When my DVD drive in my Dell stopped reading DVD's I purchased this unit. It is well built and fast. I didn't bother with the included Nero because of the many issues with the software. I just plugged it and used it with my Roxio software.

I'm make a wide range of semi-professional videos for youth sport teams. So I normally burn between 12 and 20 DVDs at a time. It took no time to burn my first batch with this one 18 DVDs in less than a couple of hours, when it used to take me at least 4 with my internal DVD burner, which by the way has stopped working.
This Iomega Burner is well build - sturdy and I think it's going to last for a long time.
No extra software needed with my Mac, Disk utility immediately detected the burner.
I would buy it again.

Device installed with ease, is fast and so far it just works!
It is bigger than other units-if tht is going to be an issue keep looking. If you want a rock solid device just feels like it is going to last this might be the one for you.

Comments about Iomega Super DVD Writer 24x External DVD Burner:
I bought this as an inexpensive replacement for my Intel IMac's dvd burner. Sadly, my Imac lost the HD in about a year after buying new.( got it replaced under warranty) Then, just after the extended warranty expired the DVD burner went bad. I could have replaced the burner with another internal but it seems obvious that Mac is using questionable parts these days.
Happily. I stumbled across Super DVD Writer by Iomega. I have had other Iomega products in the past (an external CD r/w I bought when my Cd player went kabosh on an older mac) . That CD r/w I bought several years ago and still works like a charm. I expect the same from the DVD burner. I gave it 4 stars because I have only had it for a month and don't know what it will do in the long run. But as of now, it is fast and accurate and does exactly what I bought it for.

I bought this for my husband when his internal cd/dvd writer died. He wanted one with an ac power supply and would work across our various windows platforms.
We backup our photo files to cd as well as an external hard drive.
I don't know about the software, it does not appear to be extremely user friendly, and he had trouble adding files once he written to disk. Once he found he could write without using the supplied software, he was very happy.
He has not burned any dvd's as yet, but the cd's seem to write faster than his internal ones and he can drag & drop as before.

Didn't realize how much time I was wasting with my 16x DVD burner until I bought this one. Less than 10 minutes to write 4+ GB and verify the disc. A real time-saver.

I bought the DVD burner based on the reviews from this and other websites. My order came faster than I expected. I use it with a very old computer and it still works. At first I installed the software (Nero) that came with, but the software was too much for my computer and I had to uninstall it. Besides, to do anything decent I had to buy the newer version. The machine seems very durable and is very fast. No complaints so far. I put 4 stars because Nero gave me a hard time. It should have come with the latest version of the software.

I replaced my older LG burner which had served me well with the new iOmega unit and am totally satisfied. I plugged it in, registered tne Nero software in nothing flat and cranked out several DVDs in record time. I've had it only two weeks, so I can't attest to its longevity, but what I've seen so far suggests that it is at least as good as my old, reliable LG unit

I spend most of my day working with large video and audio files and most of my time was spent waiting for my computer to burn the files to DVD/CD.With this Iomega Super DVD Writer, my waiting time is easily cut in half! This drive is very easy to set up and use. Just plug and play!Initially, I installed the Nero software, but removed it shortly thereafter because it didn't offer any more than the other software I am currently using.I've burned about 10 DVD's and only a handful of CD's and all turned out flawless. The drive is a bit larger than I expected... a bit larger than my WD External Hard Drive, but I've got plenty of desk space so it's not an issue.[...]

I bought this burner because the internal DVD device in my Mac book pro stopped working. When I took it to Apple store they told me that it would cost me more than $270 to replace it, or I could fix it with some authorized shop, but still it would be much more expensive than [$]. It runs great with MAC, no installation needed, just plugs in and runs - I love it.

My DVD burner in my 24" iMac stopped working. I was afraid that I would have to get it repaired for a hefty price with Apple... not so! This burner took the place of my burner and player! I am a freelance videographer/editor using DVD Studio Pro. It's as easy as plugging in the power and USB cable and you are ready to go. When you burn in DVD Studio Pro you just select the iomega super burner in your settings. I have also used it for watching DVDs and archiving video files.
Hasn't had a bad burn yet!

My primary use for this item is burning videos to DVD. Since I received this unit eight days ago I have burned 20 DVD+R DL with zero errors. The drive was a simple plug and play (I didn't use the included Nero software), [...] It's fast, quiet and, thus far, reliable. I would highly recommend it.

Wanted a drive that i could plug into my IMac and it would work to replace the internal burner that has had some issues. It works great! Plugged it in, no need to load any software, works with the Mac seamlessly. Using it to back up files. What a relief to get a product that does what it says it's going to do.
