This little, but powerful box provides portable entertainment that is crisp, clear, and well defined. Storage and playback are easy and user friendly. It is literally plug and play! However, BOY it this little machine LOUD: it is like running fan the entire time it is plugged in. The other minus is it's finicky disposition- you'd better have ALL the right cables for optimum viewing. Also, if your tv is not high def- don't bother buying. It is a stylish but slightly larger model that will only lay flat and so it takes up a bit more surface area than the other 1TB iomega model on the market. This model come with the wifi adapter and wireless multifunction (blackberry style) keyboard/remote- VERY VERY COOL! It is, by far, one of my better purchases- zippy, stylish, function and well priced for it's output. Easy data transfer and portable. Netflix, Facebook, live streaming... Here I come!

I bought this unit to download my videos, music and pictures onto. Set up was fairly easy but a printed manual would be handy. It does transfer files fast and I am using a wireless network.

We use this product to play videos on HD monitors at our tradeshows exhibits. We have also used Iomega's screenplay Plus and frankly I have been very disappointed in both.
First of all, the user interface is clunkly and not-intuitive at all. I even had to write out a half page instruction sheet to our sales staff, just to explain to them how to play one looping video.
We have had problems with the unit overheating, now we are having trouble with video files freezing and having to re-start the player every thirty minutes. To top it all off dealing with Iomega's customer support is such a hassle. I am having to go through multiple steps just to get in contact with them.
We have had 2 Iomega Screenplay plus, this Screenplay Director, multiple Iomega external drives, and through all the power supply failures, hard to use products, and poor customer service I am done buying stuff from them.

I have the screenplay plus- I love it but it doesn't have the internet features so i bought this one.. WoW I was very disappointed; i had to buy an internet adapter to get accesses to the internet function- well none of the internet functions work properly- you-tube- don't work at all and the limited files that they have available in there media portal is a joke.. - most of the files gives you an error messages. I have emailed the company several times; they say they are working on a fix to the problems- ha! it's been over a year- still no fix. ON the plus side- it has a 1 TB hard drive.

Well, it was a good deal for a 100 Terrabyte drive, but as others have said ....

The User Interface is clunky and confusing. It basically is a little box running Linux and little thought was given to a clean UI. You basically are navigating file menus with a remote, and it does not thumbnail music and videos, and slowly indexes new content.

It is slow to turn on and turn off (as Linux is booting up and shutting down). It should just go into sleep mode to give an illusion of speed.

The unit responds slowly to remote commands.

But the most inexcusable issue with it is if it encounters a media format it does not understand, it just seems to loose its mind. I tried a Quicktime movie, just did not play it, and would play nothing else until I rebooted. Similarly with a video clip with AC3 audio. No software update is available, yet the thing just gets lost when encountering unsupported content??? Inexcuseable.

It also cannot understand a DVD format copied to a hard drive. It can play the VOBs, but does not understand the index.

I wish I could put Windows and run the Media Center SW onto this. Then it would be a nice little box.

The price was good, and as long as you know what formats it handles and use it carefully it does the job. I have this in our RV for situations where we get no TV. Could have been so much better.

Clunky UI, slow remote, slow turn on and shut down, and buggy with unknown content. I am glad I got a big discount from retail on this otherwise I would have been very upset. At least it is a decent Terrabyte drive that can play some content ....

while the media player enables you to hear music, watch photos, and play movies, the only good thing about it, is that it has got a 1 TB hard disk attached to it.

the remote is lousy. it has few functions and it takes several seconds for a task to happen after the buttons are pressed.

the worst thing in this media player is with both the wired and wireless network. while the product details claim that it enables you to play directly from the internet, what it does'nt tell you is that you have to log into a dedicated iomega website and choose your favorites before your can play them on the device. even there, several formats are not compatible with the device. even though youtube is accessible from the device, you can hear or watch or anything. since april 2010, the company claims that they are trying to fix the device so that it is compatible with the new youtube format.

several of the media formats, which are supposed to be playable by the device, do not work and a cryptic message "improper container" appears.

while a future model with a better remote and good network playability would be a better buy, the current 1TB screenplay director is certainly not a good buy.

Can´t use Ethernet port 10/100 to transfer data into internal HD. Only by USB 2.0 port.

This was advertised as playing HD movies. I tried and only some files played others not. The ones that did had no sound. The box and other info claimed it would play these files. I later found some on line chats about this product and see people complaining as far back as a year. Iomega has done nothing to fix the problems. [...]

I bought this device in the 2TB version. As a hard drive it is good but as a media player it is horrible. DON'T BUY IT! The graphical User Interface (GUI) for video and music are fine but photos gets a completely different GUI. Why? It is a bunch of grey boxes that are named only for the current one selected. If you have a large collection as I do with photos separtaed into different folders, the interface is useless. I complained and try to return the box[...]. Please don't be fooled as I was. This is a really bad device!

I wish I can return this product. As simple as instructions manual unable to open. YouTube does not connect. I have Win XP, unable to access Iomega from desktop. Status is "connected" with IP address via ethernet. A reputable company with bad product.

The linux base operating system is not very stable. If left unsued for long while it will lock up and become unresponsive.
Although it boast an impresive list of video files it can play not all movies are created equal it seems.

Read the fine print:
"Even with a supported file type, ScreenPlay Director might not be able to support every codec used to create that type of media file."

Look else where for movie players. Check Western Digital TV Live HD WDBAAN0000NBK-NESN for a much better video media player.

The 1 TB SPD is an excellent product. I have been using it to connect my portable devices (iPhone, Macbook, iPod etc.), watch my files on TV and share my datas through the internet. Its really a great equipment! If you want to have entertainment, enjoy or share all your movies, photos and files, you will be in the correct path if you buy this product.

I have been using it daily and it work as it should.
