The Mitsubishi HC3800 DLP Home Theater Projector's native resolution is FHD—full high definition or 1080 by 1920. It can process both the progressive (1080p) and interlaced (1080i) versions as well as 720p.

Every design decision has been guided by a determination to make the best home theater at the most affordable price possible.

That didn't mean skimping on features or quality. The HC8300 sports a 0.65" DLP DMD imaging panel from Texas Instruments, which processes not just the primary colors of red, green and blue but their complements, cyan, magenta and yellow. And the projector's Color Management feature allows you to adjust each color individually without affecting the others. The result is vivid, intense color tuned just to your liking.

The HC3800's 1300 lumens and 3300:1 contrast ratio will allow you to watch clear, crisp pictures in your home theater and there's an HDMI v 1.3 input keeping the signal in pure digital form from your source (cable or satellite box or Blu-ray disc) to the projector. It also has a computer RGB input so you can hook it up to your PC or Mac.

Truly widescreen movies are generally made in the 2.35:1 (21:9) CinemaScope aspect ratio that requires what's called an anamorphic lens to be viewed as the director intended.

Prior to the HC3800 that meant buying not only the anamorphic lens, but a motorized sled so you can move the lens out the way when you're watching regular 16:9 or 4:3 programming. With the HC3800 however, one button on the remote can cancel out the anamorphic effect so although you'll still need to buy an anamorphic lens to see CinemaScope films as they were meant to be you won't need that expensive sled.

Another money-saving feature you're sure to appreciate is the high-output long-life lamp. Before you consider a lower-priced competitor you might want to consider that the HC3800's lamp is rated at 3000 hours in the projector's Standard mode and an unusually long 5000 hours in Low mode. Over the course of its lifetime your savings on lamps may more than make up the difference in price.

The HC3800 is not only thrifty; it's versatile, from its international 100 to 240 volt power supply to its ability to handle NTSC, PAL and SECAM video signals. Its short throw lens with 1.5x zoom ratio adds flexibility in projector placement.

The HC3800 offers a broad array of advanced features at a breakthrough price. It's fast becoming the projector to beat (and buy!).

1300 Lumens and a 3300:1 Contrast Ratio
The HC3800 uses a fixed iris, realizing both enhanced brightness and contrast for images. Even in a relatively bright living room with the curtains closed, movies, sports and other programs from high-definition broadcasting and Blu-ray sources can be fully enjoyed in high-definition images.
Texas Instruments DLP Image Panel With BrilliantColor
A key feature of the HC3800 is the latest Digital Light Processing (DLP) chip incorporating a new Digital Micromirror Device (DMD) comprising densely embedded micromirrors. A smaller mirror cavity diameter and narrower gaps between the mirrors improve the aperture ratio of the innovative chip, and reflective light diffusion has been greatly reduced by improving the wiring below the mirror section. The mirrors are controlled to tilt repeatedly several thousand times per second, enabling smooth, true reproduction of the digital source into finely detailed images with no noise or deterioration. As a bonus DLP devices require no filters that have to be periodically cleaned and replaced, saving you time and money.
DDP3021 Full 10-Bit Panel Driver
The built-in DDP3021 full 10-bit panel driver realizes approximately four times the gradation of 8-bit models, providing smooth expression of dark gradation subtleties.
Richer, More True-to-life Colors
The HC3800 is equipped with a six-segment color wheel capable of reproducing a standard illumination at the color temperature of D65 (6500 Kelvins). Signals from video sources are reproduced with more true-to-life colors and richer gradation.
Color Management for Preferred Color Adjustment
Adjust images to your color preferences. R (red), G (green), B (blue), C (cyan), M (magenta), and Y (yellow) can each be adjusted individually with the built-in color management function.
Short-Throw HD 1.5x Zoom Lens
The HC3800 uses a newly developed short-throw zoom lens. The 4-cluster, 13-piece all-glass lens provides excellent focusing performance with 1.5x magnification of high-definition images. Improvements in image depth and the lens aperture make it possible for deep blacks to be expressed. With its short throw capabilities a 50 inch image can be projected from less than five feet from the screen.
Anamorphic Lens Compatibility
The anamorphic lens compatibility of the HC3800 widens the projection range of CinemaScope 21:9 (2.35:1) images. Mode 1 proves extended projection, and Mode 2 is for images other than CinemaScope, which mirror the original when an (optional) anamorphic lens is attached.
High-Output, Long-life Lamp And Quiet Performance
The light source is a 230W high-output lamp capable of a long estimated lifetime of up to 5000 hours when operating in Low mode. The low-noise fan is specially designed for cooling efficiency taking factors such as fan and color wheel shape into consideration, yet ensuring impressively low 25 dB quietness when operating in Low mode.
One-Touch Projection
The projector power switch and electric screen (roll down/retract) control (12 volt trigger) are linked, providing convenient one-touch operation.

Comments about Mitsubishi HC3800 DLP Home Theater Projector:

The first word that came out of me when I plugged it in: "WOW!"
Setup was a snap with my Onkyo receiver. Could use some calibration as the saturation and tint were a bit off, but produces beautiful colors/pictures especially skin tones. Bright enough for a blinded daylight room, but well suited for a room/den with minimal ambient light.
Lack of lens shift -especially horizontal- is a bummer since for my room dimensions I couldn't get the picture exactly between the right & left speakers. I take away a star because of that & the ubiquitous DLP issue.. "rainbow". Otherwise this is a great value for your money.
