CobraCrane Certified Tripod w/2-Way Fluid Head
The CobraCrane Certified Tripod w/2-Way Fluid Head has been designed for CobraCrane I, BackPacker and FotoCrane UltraLite and Xtreme from CobraCrane. Providing a sturdy foundation to your most elaborate crane shots, this heavy-duty 2-way fluid head and 2-stage tripod combo is the perfect complement to CobraCrane's rugged and affordable jib kits. While you raise and lower the camera, you can pan in a full circle or tilt up and down 90°, confident that the base will remain firm. And when you're done jibbing, you'll still have a solid, dependable tripod for shots needing a little less flair.
For use only with CobraCrane I, BackPacker and FotoCrane UltraLite and Xtreme. This product is not compatible with CobraCrane I with extension, CobraCrane II, CobraCrane II with extension, CobraCrane I PLUS, CobraCrane II PLUS, CobraCrane I HD, or CobraCrane II HD.

I use this product with the cobra crane HD II for high, overhead shots that look streight down. Upon receiving the tripod, the legs seemed sturdy enough for the job, but the screw-on junction between the fluid head and legs, is less sturdy. Even with light cameras on the crane, it is very easy to loosen the head from the legs of the tripod when the friction lock is in use. With any degree of loosening, there is a shifting of the head on the legs which is bothersome for sturdy locked-down shots. We are contemplating using loc-tight to help with the head coming loose.

The tripod is decent. The main advantage is that it can handle the extra weight of the crane. It did not out perform $100 dollar tripods as far as being fluid. (Provista's cheap $100 tripods can compete with it as far as being fluid but not with weight requirements.) It has some nice features like the retractable spike feet, and its ability to be raised to a decent height.
Negatives:
*Pans are not as smooth without the crane attached.
*The tripod head slightly leans to the side when gear is mounted. (5lb camera, 13lb of weights, monitor, and camera remote.)
*Does not come with a tripod bag. Even $100 tripods have one.
*Over priced
*After locking the pan knob, if you forget, with a small amount of pressure to tripod head it will pan still.
*Some knobs can be rotated to the opposite side but can still be awkward to use when the crane is attached.
I bought the tripod for event videography, and internet videos. If you are willing to add a little more money and/or buy the tripod and head seperate you can get a better tripod. Not a professional one but a better one.
