This UPS runs a small load (around 200W) for a 24x7 PC. It has proven so far to properly switch over on power line degradation and complete loss of power. The information provided on the LCD display is well thought out. The unit is slim (about 35% less bulky than the 800 series it replaced) and the semi-gloss look on the front is aesthetically pleasing. Some notes:
1. The power button is recessed to avoid accidental activation, but it's so small that an average sized finger won't be able to push it directly (I use the corner of my nail). Not an issue if you run it 24x7.
2. The monitoring software that runs on your PC (and which allows the UPS to shut it down on power failure) needs to be patched if you've not done so already. There is a known issue with the 700 series not communicating properly via USB with its host PC using the baseline software provided, and you'll get annoying messages from Windows that it lost contact with the UPS about every 5 minutes. The patch is readily available for download from APC but there's no warning about this unless you Google it.

Comments about APC Back-UPS RS 700 Uninterruptible Power Supply:
unit is nice and compact. I put it on a shelf above my computer. I like really like the feature that shows how many watts your gear is using. For example my 21 inch Imac, router, modem and phone adapter use a total of 60 watts. I also like that you can adjust the sensitivity of voltage for when the UPS switches to battery power. For example at high sensitivity,(this is the setting I use) if the voltage drops below 88 or spikes above 137, it switches to battery.

This is used in a home office. I have a problem with power outages and this UPS works terrific at protecting my electronics. This has a really nice software package that warns of possible troubles and shuts the computer off (if necessary)properly. It has plenty of battery to hold the computer and monitor for 15 minutes, plenty of time to shut down programs and shut the computer down safely. I have not had any problems and have been using this for about 2 months now. It just works great!

Comments about APC Back-UPS RS 700 Uninterruptible Power Supply:
I had too many hard drive failures in a time frame and too many RAID1 array rebuilds going on and traced it to power company blips.
I researched and read nothing but great reviews on this device so I got one.
All I can say is what took me so long? I love the software because now I can hammer the power company with the dates and times of their blips and have seen a bucket & boom truck on my street lately and no problems since.
A lightning storm put me down for an hour and the device did its job running till it had 5 minutes of power left and ran shutdown.
Before, if there was a power blip Intel Matrix manager would remirror my Raid1 array. And sometimes it would cause one of the drives to never run correctly again.

Comments about APC Back-UPS RS 700 Uninterruptible Power Supply:
Having used a few other brands, I would recommend APC over any cheaper solutions. These are well build and effective products for upper-low to mid-range solutions.
This specific unit balances a reasonably about of power with a small footprint making it appropriate for isolated machines. For home servers or where longer battery life is needed, you'd want a much larger (and more expensive) unit.

The only thing I HATE about these and most UPS's is the awful pain in the rear you have connecting the battery and getting it all back in there safely. Always irritating.

Comments about APC Back-UPS RS 700 Uninterruptible Power Supply:
I bought 5 of these to back up our desktop computers. WHen we connected the 1st one it blew the computer and we got a blue screen with an error. We called customer service and the person was totally unable and incapable of helping us. He simply faxed over a form to fill out. That was after keeping us on the phone for 45 minutes. However they did send a replacement unit promptly. When our IT people arrivedthey reconnected the back up and now it works - I think - we haven't had any black outs. However in watching what they did they connected the Data Port wire to the computer too. Which is not stated in the directions.

Comments about APC Back-UPS RS 700 Uninterruptible Power Supply:
Works perfect. I bought it because my MAC kept on shutting down when my window AC unit compressor would turn on. This back-UPS prevents that from happening. Cheaper APC devises didn't accomplish this.
