Brother PT-1290 P-Touch "Simply Stylish" Labeler
The Epson PT-1290 P-Touch "Simply Stylish" Labeler features a 15-character, 1-line LCD display, a QWERTY (typewriter-style) keyboard and has both Helsinki and Bohemia embedded fonts which are easily switched with the touch of a button. Plus with its internal memory you can store up to 9 of your most frequently used labels.
The PT-1290 features a dedicated "Deco Mode" key for easy access to the unit's 15 pre-set formats to give your labels an artistic look. It also has automatic tape detection which senses the size of the tape you are using and adjusts the text to fit the label width. The P-Touch "Simply Stylish" line of label printers have a sleek design and will blend nicely with virtually any home office décor.

I have used this to label the hard drives in my server's RAID configuration, such as "Drive 0", "Drive 1" and so on. I also used it to label my entertainment center peripherals, such as "HDMI-5", "HDMI-6", etc, so there are no more guessing games with the remote control, as to which component I am using. I have always counted on one of these label makers in the IT industry, for naming conventions of PCs and Laptops as well. The uses are endless!
There are no down sides to these, that I'm aware of yet. This particular model is my favorite, for ease of use, and QWERTY keyboard, which is a huge plus to me, over some of the smaller models.

Minimum label length is one & a two tenth inches or 30 mm, so a lot of expensive tape is wasted for smaller prints. It doesn't come with a power cord. Uses 6 AAA batteries. There is not a way to detach the label--you need scissors. I'm just incredibly dissappointed with this device.

I just picked this up on sale for [$] on Black Friday from BH photo. At [$] its normal price it would still make an outstanding purchase. It has the ability to use different thickness of tape, print two lines, multiple fonts. I have been using it to organize my filing system, print labels for personal items and so much more. It is an outstanding product.

The printer doesn't come with the powercord and it needs 6 AAA battery, I don't always use it so the powercord is much useful than the battery.
The labels can only be printed to designed length and it wastes some tape.
The instruction is somehow complicate.

We use the product for our home office, to label files, folders, notebooks, etc. So far it has worked well. Only drawback to me is getting used to the automatic sizing when I select a specific label length. If I use a lengthy title, I can barely read because the labeler shrinks it to remain in the given space. Once I figured out what it was going, I knew that I could simply use a font size and adjust the wording of my titles to fit the folder label. Also seems to feed a little more extra tape when printing than I would have expected. Hope that doesn't get expensive! Otherwise, I am happy with the product and intend to keep it.
