The TurboTax Basic Fed + Efile 2009 Software for Mac & Windows from Intuit is a software application that is designed to help you complete your federal income taxes. The software guides you through the steps necessary to complete your 1040 form, automatically downloading your W-2 and 1099 data in many cases.
Intuit provides online support with this product. You'll be able to ask TurboTax experts questions in Intuit's Live Community. The application itself can offer tax advice, and can translate unclear IRS tax forms into Plain English. A federal efile is included, allowing you to electronically submit your taxes to the IRS.

Comments about Intuit TurboTax Basic Fed + Efile 2009 Software:
I've used TurboTax for many years -- ever since they bought Parson's Technology to eliminate the competition. The software has been excellent, up until 2009 (with the exception of TurboTax's refusal to support Windows 98, and forcing users to upgrade to newer computers -- what's next? -- forcing us to buy new computers again when Windows XP is scrapped by Microsoft?). Major flaws are contained for 2009 relative to calculations for Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) annunities, and also for Social Security annuities. TurboTax's questions related to annunities assume they are ALL IRA's requiring minimum withdrawals by age 70-1/2! Therefore, you MUST access each of these forms and manually input the information to avoid problems. When the return is complete, do NOT save the file in the Adobe (.pdf) format only, because next year you will not be able to download the information from 2009's return into 2010's. Also, the software will NOT allow you to re-install the 2008 software for the purpose of obtaining this data for upload into the 2009 return, without first un-installing the 2009 software. Then, after you do this, and re-install the 2008 software, you will not be able to un-install it completely without manually doing it in the Registry! It is rediculous to not be permitted to install several years' of TurboTax simultaneously on the same computer.
