The versatile Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro HSM Zoom Lens is a standard macro zoom for digital SLR cameras with a Pentax K lens mount. The lens is designed for cameras with APS size chips, and covers the most frequently used focal lengths. The maximum aperture of f/2.8 is fast enough for use under a wide variety of lighting conditions.
Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) ensures quiet and high speed AF as well as full-time manual focus. For shooting macro this lens has a close focusing distance of 8.7" (22cm) and a magnification ratio of 1:2.7 (approx. 1/2 life-size) making it ideal for getting in tight during nature, product, still life, medical and technical shooting sessions. This lens is flexible enough to also deliver excellent image captures at medium telephoto distances for portraits, nature and landscapes.
Note! It is not possible to use the built-in OS function of this lens, when using with Pentax ist series and K100D DSLR cameras.

I'm using the lens on a Pentax K-x with Hoya HD UV, Hoya HD CIR-PL filters on it. Optically and mechanically good, colors little coolish, but have serious focusing problems starting around 40mm to 70mm, it hunts for seconds or even can't focalise on a bright day. The other lens I have, Tamron SP Di 90mm/2.8 Macro doesn't has this focusing problem at all and is much warmer also.

Comments about Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro HSM Zoom Lens:
The first lens I received would not focus as much as 1/3 of the time, so I returned it to B&H for an exchange.
While waiting for the new lens, I discovered that my Pentax K-r firmware was not the latest. I updated the firmware, which purported to improve focusing.
The new lens (with the new firmware) has worked perfectly. I do not think it has failed to quickly focus, even in low light.
This lens is great - the internal stabilization and the internal high speed focusing motor are wonderful.

Comments about Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro HSM Zoom Lens:
The first lens I received had trouble focusing - it would not focus at least 1/3 of the time. I was really disappointed. However, I returned it to B&H within the 30 day trial period for an exchange.
During the time I was waiting for the replacement, I discovered that two firmware upgrades had been released for my Pentax K-r, and one of the issues fixed was poor focus performance. I upgraded the firmware.
The replacement lens (on the upgraded firmware) works great! It has not failed once to focus, even in dim light conditions. The lens works great and I am a very happy B&H Sigma customer. I love the in-lens focus motor and the in-lens stabilization works great.
B&H customer service was first rate.

Works smoothly, durably made, very easy to focus which is a must in catching a moment. Heavy if compared to the plastic lenses but that's what makes it real and gives it smooth functions.

This is a great all aroud lens. Love the wide angle I get and just enough zoom for an alround.
What you need to know if you have a k-10 is that you need the latest firmware update to make the autofocus work from the lens.
