The Westcott Scrim Jim Universal Clamp with Baby (5/8") Stud is suited for outdoor use where wind is a factor. Use two for stability one on each side of the frame where torque by the wind could be a factor.

I use the scrim jim as a bounce reflector in most cases but also have used it as a large flag to block light or flare. It's very easy to set up, really light, and breaks down into a small duffle bag that is great for transport. The universal clamps are a really handy tool to have when you're shooting in a location and want to have the reflector set in one position to bounce light. The set up with the clamps and knuckles make it really easy to adjust the angle of the scrim jim until you get the perfect amount of reflection. I would absolutely recommend this product to a friend.

This is tailor-made for the Scrim Jim and I'm glad I have it. You'll need a grip head for the other end.

otoh - if money is tight, and you have a spare mafer clamp, you can use the mafer to hold up the frame (not quite as securely); and the mafer attaches easily to the top of a 5/8" stud on a light stand, so you won't need the grip head either.

Great- holds the scrim safely and securely, thus freeing my assistant to focus on the subject and the shoot, and not having to be fully focused on a large piece of grip/lighting gear. Set it, and shoot.

I use this clamp to get the most out of my Scrim Jim and stands allowing the reflector or diffuser to be angled perfectly for every shot....and very simply as well. It's well designed and sturdy. No problems with this clamp whatsoever.

Used a single clamp to hold the Medium Scrim Jim at various angles in overhead positions.
Also used an Avenger C-Stand, Grip Head, and Saddle Sand Bags.
The setup looks kinda unstable...but in fact stays put and holds firm even in moderate wind conditions.

Comments about Westcott Clamp with 5/8" Stud for Scrim Jim:

I've been using Scim Jims for many years but only bought these now that I bought the Extra Large 8'x8' fabrics. Knuckles worked fine on smaller scrims, but to fly an 8x8 in wind I wanted the most secure clamps possible. Only reason 4 not 5 stars is the price.

While I've yet to test these on location (outside), they've proven themselves to be an invaluable piece of grip equipment in the studio. I use them to hold an 8'x8' Westcott Scrim Jim around, as well as above various subject matter and they've held it in place securely. I'm looking forward to testing them outdoors while on location to see how they'll perform.
