Comments about Buffalo 1TB DriveStation USB 3.0 HD-HXU3 External Hard Drive:
I would give this 0 stars. I've had it for a while, and when I got it, I couldn't format it to NTFS. I put aside for about six months, then decided to troubleshoot again. Well, the drive is set in Read Only mode - not just files and folders, but the whole disk, as shown in Disk Manager. Tried different computers and same results. Finally contacted Buffalo support. They are clueless. They gave me an RMA number and I sent it back. They sent me another one and I have the same problem. Then, when I checked the serial number, it was the SAME drive I had returned to them.
Terrible support. Won't buy Buffalo again.

Comments about Buffalo 1TB DriveStation USB 3.0 HD-HXU3 External Hard Drive:
This drive does NOT sleep which is great for Video editors. It immediately turns off when the computer is powered down or asleep. Other than that it will NOT which I love it.
If the drive sleeps, it may cause a problem during rendering as the drive becomes unaccessible so this is great! The bad side about rendering video is that it doesn't save eletricity as you need all your drives spinning at all times...
I haven't hooked up USB 3.0 yet because B&H didn't have the USB 3.0 PCI-E in stock. This drive is connected to a Apple mac pro which runs independently MAC O.S, Windows XP and Windows 7. This drive works great on all 3 O.S.!
Another feature is the it runs quiet and cool.
What I don't like is the fingerpring magnet surface and scratches very easy (tiny almost invisible) even by cleaning with a brand new cotton ball, being the softest thing to rub.
