i wanted to use the scanner on a collection of over 1200 slides to preserve them digitally. As soon as the first scan came out, I realized how horrible this product is. Although it touts 1800dpi / 5MP sensor, it leaves a LOT to be desired in color. the specs say 24bit (8bpc) color, but every image I've scanned looks as though it were in 256 color. It seems that the sensor has a very limited color range, and simply up-scales the palate after scanning, without bothering to dither the colors.
Resolution could be higher, but 5MP is good enough for old slides.

Comments about Pacific Image Memor-ease PLUS 35mm Film & Slide Converter (Black):
I bought this scanner not expecting much because of the price but never expected the scan quality to be so bad. First of all, the software is horrendous. It keeps popping up error messages about something being in the scanner when nothing is in it. When I am successful at getting it to work the final scan is fuzzy and dull. Since I am using 1 week old negatives I can only assume that it is the scanner. I have a 5 year old Epson flatbed scanner that is far superior to this product and that's not saying much.

Comments about Pacific Image Memor-ease PLUS 35mm Film & Slide Converter (Black):
This is my 3rd scanner for the same project. The first two claimed they worked with Windows 7, but after I ordered them I saw that they only worked with Windows XP and Vista. This one was a dream to use. I liked the way it created a destination folder with the date so that I didn't have to keep file names straight or worry about over-writing another slide by accidentally giving it the same name. The picture quality is very good, although not perfect. In a couple of cases where the subject was black, it transferred to the .jpg file as a silvery gray. One picture had an odd, ghost like effect where my mother (who was wearing black in the original slide and walking on a beach) ended up a translucent gray with a wave showing through her. There was a similar issue with other blacks, but 98% of the time I was very pleased with the images. I would recommend this highly.

Very easy to use. Did a good job with my old 126 format slides from the sixties. Not too good with 35mm color negatives. Overall I'm impressed with what I got for spending little.

Comments about Pacific Image Memor-ease PLUS 35mm Film & Slide Converter (Black):
Simple to use and does a good job on well exposed negatives and slides. Not so good on colour balance of faded negatives. Software occasionally goes daft and produces bizarre colour balance. This can be corrected either by recalibrating or by sitting a while without an image in place or by selecting a different type of image (b&w, positive) and then returning to colour neg. Great for building an archive of quick and dirty images as a catalog.

Wanted to scan old slides and negatives that belong to my parents, mostly just for preservation...for the price, this scanner is exactly what I needed! Quick, easy to use, it takes patience because you can only put 4 slides in the tray at a time, but I can do 100 slides in about 30 minutes. My slides are very old, so I can't really say much about the color quality of the scans, but overall I am VERY pleased with my purchase.

Comments about Pacific Image Memor-ease PLUS 35mm Film & Slide Converter (Black):
Installation was a breeze (under Vista Home), 15 minutes from product unpacking to using.
Although made out of plastic, the unit is sturdy and surprisingly very light. I purchased it to convert both a set of transparency slides as well as to make jpg's out of photo negatives instead of scanning the paper copies. Once the drivers and program are installed, all it takes to start capturing images is to place your negative or slides on the appropriate provided slider and click capture. Although I didn't actually measured the time taken to scan a picture, I can say that compared with doing it with a regular scanner, is about 3 to 5 times faster. The quality of the scanned pictures is reasonable (don't expect to blow them up to a wall size), they look good in the computer, electronic frame and when viewed on my 40" lcd. All in all, I am very satisfied with this product.

I was looking for a low-end slide scanner and found this to be one of the least expensive units on the market. To my surprise, I am amazed at how easy it was to set up and to use, and even more so, how quickly it scanned slides. I have a Canon flatbed scanner that worked quite well for 8.5 x 11 material, but it takes forever to scan slides. This unit will handle a tray of four in less than 10 seconds! The digital image quality is also better than I anticipated. Very pleased...

The software that came packaged with the product was first generation. I did download the upgrade from the website but it didn't work. I contacted Customer Service (Wendy) who was very nice and tried without success to solve the problem. I am currently awaiting a solution from your software engineer in Taiwan.

Comments about Pacific Image Memor-ease PLUS 35mm Film & Slide Converter (Black):
I used this device to capture my old slide collection for posterity. The image quality was mostly OK when the slides were exposed properly. Underexposure resulted in severe contouring of the image (reduction of continuous luminance levels to distinctly separate levels, a significant impairment.) This also occurred in daylight aerial shots over the ocean, where blue gradients were transformed into distinct rings of differing blue shades. I should note that this converter actually takes 5 megapixel images, as though it was a digital camera. It does not "scan" in the traditional sense. It that respect, it is very fast in capturing images. I have thousands of slides that require digitization. Scanners from photographic companies take much longer to work. I've no doubt the captures would be excellent, but time is of the essence, so this will have to do.
I suspect a software upgrade could remedy the converter's issues with slide density and exposure, but I'm committed to see this through as is.

The scans made by this scanner are horrible: low resolution and colours that have nothing to do with the original slide.
A total waste of money.
I thought I could do with a low-end scanner for digitizing my family slide archive. Now I see that a proper scanner must be worth it's cost.
It seems that, in the end, I will have my slides scanned in a professional shop.

I have thousands of slides taken through the years that needed a projector to view. Now I can view them on the computer and the TV. It worked out of the box and as I am not a computer expert it was great to have it work without a hassle. The last frame of the four does not seem to center very well and as I have so many slides, it will take a long time to finish the project.
