Recording media is not included, be prepared - always carry extra media.
Sony's HDR-CX110 Handycam Camcorder is an entry level high definition camera that captures 1920 x 1080 video and 3MP digital stills to flash memory. Choose to record to optional Memory Stick media, or to SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards. Either way you'll have the ease of flash memory for recording, storage, and transfer of all your video and still images.
Other core features of the CX110 include the 1/4" back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor, a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens, SteadyShot image stabilization with Active Mode, a 2.7" LCD screen, and 25x optical zoom. The back-illuminated sensor provides you with improved image capture in low light settings over previous Sony Exmor R sensors. Working along with the sensor, the BIONZ Image Processor provides faster response times and reduces visual noise. The Vario-Tessar lens brings the quality of Carl Zeiss optics to the table, while providing Sony's SteadyShot stabilization which cuts down on blur caused by motion, or camera shake, while the Active Mode enables the camera to compensate for even greater degrees of camera shake. The 2.7" LCD screen provides you with touch panel convenience and 270 degrees of rotation. And the camera's 25x optical zoom brings far off subjects in focus with clarity and detail.
In addition to the nuts and bolts of the HDR-CX110 Sony packed this camera with a number of other convenience and workflow features that are designed to make your recording experience a more user-friendly one. Functions like Face Detection, Face Index, Film Roll Index, and Smile Shutter are just the beginning of the myriad of useful features. Others include the ability to personalize the menu system to the functions you use most, called, "My Menu", Sony's Dual Record with still image capture, and automatic Power On when you open the LCD display. BRAVIA Sync technology, One Touch Disc Burn, 1080/60p playback via HDMI, among others, all help you make the most of your recording from start to finish.

The compact size of the camcorder makes it easy to take along with you without being to bulky and providing quick and easy operation in seconds. This was certainly the case recently when we were able to get GREAT video of a moose on a snowmobile trail in NH at night time. I was amazed at the quality of the video when reviewed after downloading the files with such low lighting and being so stable while riding the snowmobile at the same time.. I zoomed in on an unknown distant mountain range landscape structure and I was able to clearly identify it after downloading as a fire tower without question. All the buttons and touch screen functions are easy to use and understand. Also, the still camera feature seems way better quality than a 3.1. The microphone in this unit seems to be all I need for my use. I am very satisfied with this camera and purchase.

Decent, entry level camera but Sony needs to make the file format more compatible with editing software. What a hassle if you do a lot of projects. If you people want to take photos use a camera, not a video camera. Video cameras are not designed for photography. This is good for the beach but not for the professional video producer. You can get by with it though.

Comments about Sony HDR-CX110 HD Handycam Camcorder (Black):
I teach a video broadcasting class for 7th & 8th graders. We produce a weekly show for our school using two of these HDR-CX100's and a Sony FX-7. For most of our work we opt to use the CX110's due to the ease of use, simplicity and quality. Whether we are shooting anchor spots or a feature video we never hesitate to use the CX110s. Another way we use the CX100s is multi-camera shoots along with the FX-7. The video quality fits great. Once again, great HD Video Quality, Simple to use, quick access to content on SD Cards.
The glass in the lens is not as good as our FX-7 and no support for external microphones but still one of the best buys on the market for a compact HD Camcorder.

The video and sound quality turned out quite good. Compare with the Canon VIXIA HF R200 this Sony camcorder is better and got a lot more features. Really like the dual catch to get photo automatically taken when people smile. Love the slow motion, too, but wish it can take more than 3 seconds, it's too short. Also like to have higher resolution for the stills it's only 3 MP. All Sony camcorders allow to use a bigger battery that's a must feature. As the Canon puts the battery in a fixed space which can only allow a small one lasts only about 1 hour that's really useless. I have returned the Canon and got this. I love the small size, very easy to bring for any occasions.

I have used the camera nearly everywhere I go. It is so light that I can hardly tell that I have it. It is simple to use and can be grabbed and record in a few short seconds to catch those "don't want to miss" moments. Excellent resolution and zoom capabilities.

Light weight, near pocket-size but the steady shot feature makes this camera incredible. It also zooms in ridiculously close and does well in dark lighting situations. My only issue is that it records in AVCHD format. I'd like a more editor-friendly format such as QT or MPEG-4. Work on that, Sony, and you got yourself 5 stars ;)

Comments about Sony HDR-CX110 HD Handycam Camcorder (Black):
The Sony HDR-CX110 is the first digital camcorder I've purchased. I was looking for something relatively inexpensive yet having some advanced features and this one seemed to fit my need. After using this camcorder for one week, I found its features and performance to be as advertised. It is light-weight and small, almost too small. Its small size makes it awkward to hold and operate; maybe an auxiliary grip would help.

The video quality from this little guy is amazing, and it's so tiny you can take it anywhere. I can easily stuff it in my purse, or a small pack when I'm out hiking or snowshoeing. It even fits in a pocket of my parka when I'm downhill skiing. I've shot some stunning wildlife video with it. It doesn't have an external mic input, however, so expect wind noise if there's any wind where you're shooting.
