I charged this battery and then tested it in my camcorder. It appeared to work fine so I put the camera away and drove to a sporting event. When I got the camera out I discovered that it had been recording for the last 2 hours. My data card was full, but I had enough battery power to format the card and still record an hour worth of video!

Got this battery and its charger (Pearstone CM-BP808) as an alternative to more expensive Canon ones.
A few minutes after installing the battery a sparking noise was followed by smell of a burnt electronics.
Turns out that the metal poles of the charger crushed the poles of the battery and probably caused a mis-contact.
My observation is that the poles are very slender and not supported causing such failure.
Thank god I was not sleeping or outside, it could catch fire and would have been a disaster!
The poles on the camera (Canon Vixia HF S20) and its original battery do not look any stronger either, but they did not fail so far, at least.
As a recommendation, see if the poles on the original Canon batteries and chargers look better and then pay a little more. At least they have 1-year warranty.
And as a life-saving reminder: Never charge batteries of any brand unattended!

the battery that comes with the CANON XA-10 is a good battery...
BUT this battery really extends your shoot time!
...a big plus when you are shooting an interview and the speaker is "on a roll"
so you never have to stop him/her mid sentence to change batteries!
I bought 2, and the wall charger so one battery is always charged and ready to go.
I use the small capacity battery that comes with the camera as my back up!

really great and affordable long life battery.
my canon xa10 goes on forever with this!
the standard battery that comes with the xa10 lasts 1 hour with internal mic and maybe 30minutes using phantom power.
with the bp-827 i get 3 hours with
phantom power for my external mic.
no worries and charges fast too!
thinking of buying another just to feel even more comfortable on battery life.
before i bought it i read somewhere that the camera won't recognize how much time you have left in the camera display when using an aftermarket battery.
NOT the case!! it works with no problems at all!

This battery replaces the tiny and anemic battery that comes with the Canon HF-11. The little one gets about an hour's worth of shooting time. The first time I charged and used this, the camera told me it would run for 274 minutes. 4 and a half hours. Yahoo.

I picked up this battery over the genuine Canon part for the obvious reason - price.
I bought two and have not experienced any problems with this battery, and will purchase again if I need more in the future.
With HF S200 camcorder, I get about 3.5+ hours of real near continuous run time (with the on camera video light on sometimes). Which is ok for me.
