The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S2100 Digital Camera (Silver) is an economical 12.1 megapixel camera that is packed with easy-to-use features. Easy Shooting Mode, iAuto, and Intelligent Scene Recognition are some of the features that allow the beginner photographer to take wonderful photos. The camera also has settings for 8 different scenes.
The sharp 3x optical zoom lens allows you to get great shots even from a distance. Use the 3" LCD display to frame your images and then view them after taking the photo, even in bright light. In low light, the camera performs extremely well in High Sensitivity Mode with a high ISO of 3200 and the SteadyShot Image Stabilization to prevent motion blur.
When shooting your friends and family, the camera's Face Detection feature detects up to 8 individual faces and adjusts focus, exposure, and flash, while the Smile Shutter feature captures a smile the moment it happens. Add the convenience of AA battery power and the choice of Memory Stick Duo or SD/SDHC memory cards to store your images, and this camera is a great value. Two AA batteries are included.

- High ISO allows for faster shutter speed, so you can take photos indoors or in low light without the need for a flash. - Easy Shooting Mode
- With Easy Shooting Mode, even beginners can take great photos. In Easy Shooting Mode, easy-to-understand basic instructions are displayed on the LCD screen and the camera switches to all automatic settings, removing several function choices and allowing you to focus on just your subject. Since this mode works together with Intelligent Scene Recognition, the camera selects the optimum setting for each scene. In addition the Easy Shooting mode simplifies the Preview mode.
- Intelligent (iAuto) Auto Mode
- Unlike traditional auto mode, Intelligent Auto (iAuto) mode thinks for you by recognizing scenes, lighting conditions, faces, and adjusts the settings to produce clear images and faces with natural skin tone and less blur. Take advantage of all the technology without leaving Auto mode. Take pictures from a kid on the playground, to landscape shots, to a beautiful flower or an indoor birthday party and get clear images without leaving Auto mode.

- Intelligent Scene Recognition (iSCN) Mode automatically detects nine different types of scenes and, within just 1/30th of a second, selects the appropriate camera settings: Backlight, Backlight Portrait, Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Portrait, Landscape and Macro
- Face Detection Technology
- Face Detection technology detects up to 8 individual faces and adjusts focus, exposure, and flash to help deliver crisp, properly lit images of family and friends.
- Smile Shutter Technology
- Smile Shutter technology captures a smile the moment it happens. Simply press the Smile Shutter button and the camera does the rest. Intelligent Scene Recognition can now be used together with Smile Shutter mode when the Intelligent Auto mode is on. I use this camera as a family outing camera. It is easy to use as i can put it in my pocket and easily carry it anywhere, pull it out at a moments notice and capture my image. perfect for parties, reunions, vacations, etc. where the main thing is to take pix of your memories on the go and you want to travel light. If you want Professional results, get a different camera. While this camera takes really good pictures, it is not a pro rig. You will be very happy with it if you remember what type of camera it is. I like the idea of AA batteries and although it may burn through them, you can easily replace them almost anywhere for relatively low cost. if you want a camera with a rechargeable battery, you can purchase rechargeable AA Batteries. All in all, i like my new little camera and would definitely recommend it to anyone who's purpose for taking pix is to post them to the web. Although the pictures are 12MP they are still 72dpi

I was looking for a camera for my mom which needs to be easy to use along with good lens and picture quality. I got all of that with Sony Cyber Shot DSC S 2100. If my mom can use it, anyone can :-).
The only down side was lack of good Zoom which is fine for a point and shoot of this range.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this to anyone interested to get a < 100$ point and shoot.

This is a replacement camera for the exact same model that was lost. I took it on a cruise to Alaska and came home with the most awesome pictures. I am not a techy-type person and was intimidated by digital cameras, but this one is so easy to use and the pictures come out sharp and clear with the stabilization feature. Has everything you need, no useless bells and whistles you don't. You can set to a "full auto" mode or manually set key settings like ISO, white balance, metering, focusing... with an 8gb card you'll get about 1500 pics. It also takes 30 min of video (regardless the SD card size). There's no visible difference in picture quality between a $300 point and shoot and an $80 one and no visible difference between 16mp and 12mp (unless you're printing a pic bigger than 16 by 20 inches) so don't pay for marketing fluff you'll never use.. Get one, what are you waiting for...

Since getting the Sony I have been shooting everything in sight. I printed out the 93 page manual and am learning more every day. The pictures on the computer slide show are spectacular. The size fits my pocket and my hands. Image quality of the LCD when reviewing pictures is less than perfect, but what matters is when they are piped into the computer they could'nt be better.
